What you can expect

  • We offer this unique guided tour every year from May 1st to October 3rd on every Wednesday, Sunday, and public holiday. Because only on these days can you experience a very special spectacle. Hundreds of visitors then eagerly watch as the water moves through historic pipes in the park ensemble and emerges at picturesque stations such as the cascades in front of the Hercules, the Steinhöf waterfall, the Devil's Bridge, and the aqueduct. During our guided tour, you will receive exclusive background information and, of course, be there in time for the finale of the fountains, when a jet of water over 50 meters high rises into the sky.

Note: The water features can only be experienced on foot, as they are located within the listed mountain park. Unfortunately, the paths are not suitable for people with walking difficulties or wheelchair users. Know before you go that there is no stair railing at the Baroque cascade. We strongly recommend sturdy footwear for participating in this guided tour. A sure step and a certain level of physical fitness are recommended for participation in the guided tour of the water features. Guests with dogs cannot participate in this guided tour, unfortunately, especially for the benefit of the animal.

We recommend traveling by public transport. If you do arrive by car, you can find more information here: https://www.kassel.de/buerger/kunst_und_kultur/parks_und_gaerten/wilhelmshoehe/anreise/parken-am-bergpark-wilhelmshoehe.php

    Schedule of the fountain shows

2:30 pm Start of the fountains
The starting point of the water features is at the foot of the octagon on which Hercules sits enthroned. When the faun and the centaur at the Artichoke Basin blow their horns, the spectacle begins.

    2:35 PM Cascades
From the Giant's Head Basin down to the Neptune Basin, the cascades are interrupted by a total of three oval water basins. The massive cascade system is lined on both sides by 535 or 539 steps.

    Steinhöfer Waterfall at 3:05 PM
If you look closely, you will see a quarry that had to be abandoned due to water intrusion and is now being reclaimed by nature!

    3:20 PM Teufelsbrücke (Devil's Bridge)
The water flows under the bridge into the “Höllenteich” (Hell Pond), which is 10 meters lower and was created by Heinrich Christoph Jussow in 1792/93.

    3:30 pm Aqueduct
The aqueduct is an imitation of a Roman water pipeline and was built from 1788 to 1792.

    3:45 PM Great Fountain
The excitement is building: The brilliant finale of the water features is the large fountain in the palace pond. The natural-looking pond was artificially created as early as the mid-18th century. The water shoots over 50 meters into the air! The spectacle lasts about 15 minutes.
