Overview

  • Comb Ridge is a prominent geological feature, stretching roughly 70 miles. It is a long, narrow ridge that rises sharply above the surrounding landscape, forming a distinctive “comb-like” appearance due to its jagged, layered rock formations. This ridge is part of the larger Colorado Plateau and is known for its striking beauty, historical significance, and unique geology.

    The River House Ruin is an important archaeological site. It is a well-preserved cliff dwelling that dates back to the Ancestral Puebloan culture, which flourished in the region between approximately 600 and 1300 AD.

    Notable for its well-preserved structures, which include multi-room dwellings and a kiva (a ceremonial, round structure used by the Ancestral Puebloans). The ruin provides insight into the construction techniques and social organization of the people who lived there. The site contains rock art and other artifacts, offering valuable information about the lives of the inhabitants.

This hole served as a passageway for the pioneers, who faced a difficult and dangerous journey over challenging desert terrain, steep cliffs, and canyons. The pioneers used a combination of wagons, teams of oxen, and careful engineering to carve out a path through the rock, allowing their wagons to pass through the narrow opening.

San Juan River (Pass by)
