Overview

  • This excursion takes us on a fact-packed and fun-packed journey through the history and culture of the local area, from the Bronze Age to the present day without it being like being back at school! This extremely well-preserved Renaissance castle is home to an impressive art collection and a bijou museum of the archaeology of the local area. We also get an insight into the role of the castle in the time of Christian and Moorish Spain.

Calguerin (Pass by)

Many of the inhabitants of Cuevas lived in caves - some still do - and we drive through this awe-inspiring neighbourhood that has been home to cave-dwellers for centuries.

Castillo de San Juan de los Terreros (Pass by)

The 18th-Century castle was built on the site of a previous Moorish castle on the top of a commanding rock that oversees the Mediterranean. From this point we get an amazing panoramic view of the surrounding sierras and up and down the stunning Murcia and Almería coast.

Playa De Los Cocedores

This spectacular cove was once the centre of operations for the "cocedores", or esparto grass workers, and is now the strikingly-located beach restaurants for miles around. We stop here for lunch (fresh fish and seafood is the speciality) before returning, via the scenic route, to your hotel.
