Description

Discover Guatemala with a guided visit to picturesque Chichicastenango Market and Panajachel. Enjoy spectacular views over Lake Atitlán and the 3 nearby volcanoes.

You will be picked up at your hotel in Guatemala City and transfer to Chichicastenango, sometimes your transfer will be via Antigua Guatemala below a brief summary of what to expect on your way.

Head to Chichicastenango to stroll through its popular and very colorful market. Every Thursday and Sunday, local vendors gather in the central part of the town to offer a wide variety of goods, such as fruit, vegetables, flowers, handicrafts, pottery, and even livestock. Make sure to taste some of the local specialties during your free time in the market area.

We are also going to visit Santo Tomás Church, built in 1540 on the basis of a pre-Hispanic archaeological temple. This church is a splendid example of colonial architecture, as the Mayan and Latin influence mixes both inside and outside of the church over time. After exploring the market you can enjoy a delicious lunch (not included).

Next up on your itinerary is the small town of Panajachel, which is located on Lake Atitlan. We will visit Calle Santander and enjoy a spectacular view of the lake which is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Three spectacular volcanoes, Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro form the natural framework of the lake itself. Time to take pictures.

At the end of our tour we return to Guatemala City via Antigua Guatemala.

The market was quite the experience. More than what I expected. Our guide Juan Pablo recommended an excellent place for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. He was very informative and made sure we had a great trip.

Market was too crowded, guide had great difficulty keeping group together as a result, and we were able to see very little other than try to follow guide. Would have been good otherwise. Lake was very beautiful- too much driving in the day for the amount of sightseeing
