This is not just a mill visit. It's a 2-hour experience designed so you leave knowing how to choose a good olive oil, at home, in a supermarket or anywhere in the world.
It takes place at the Aceites Cazorla cooperative, surrounded by olive groves in the Sierra de Cazorla (Jaén, Andalusia), within the Sierra de Cazorla Protected Designation of Origin.
We start at the Oleotour centre and its 18th-century oil mill museum. Then we walk beside the olive trees to talk about the harvest, why this landscape has so many olive trees, and how to tell Picual from Royal, the local variety of Cazorla. Next, the reception yard, where olives are unloaded, selected and cleaned, followed by the mill and the cellar.
We finish seated in the tasting room. You'll learn the method professionals use to judge olive oil (fruitiness, bitterness, pungency), compare several oils, and decode a real label together.
Depending on the time available and the group's interests, the visit may also include other stops at the centre, such as an audiovisual projection or a watercolour activity.
Right opposite the building, the large car park is home to a botanical garden with more than 60 native plant species, where you'll also find our olive oil can guitar, the favourite photo spot of the visit.
Available in Spanish, English and French, each at a different time. No previous knowledge needed. The whole visit is wheelchair accessible, and gluten-free alternatives are always available at the tasting.
