This is our 3rd stay, and we brought our in-laws from Washington state to enjoy the beauty, peace, and quiet that they seem to have here in abundance. It's a quaint retreat, without skimping on comfort or hospitality. The grounds are lovely, which is why there are so many weddings and special occasions booked here every time we come. Definitely going to continue to returning for quiet weekends away from the city!

Nothing fancy, but served its purpose

We were only there for a few hours and ultimately it served its purpose - to sleep. We got in around 11:30 and easily found the front desk. The attendant was very nice and gave directions on how to get to our room by drawing it on a map. The property was slightly confusing, however, found our way. I assumed where it was an inn, it would be one building but then discovered it was a motor court. We entered the room which was decorated all in one print, so it was difficult to find a few light switches and it was kept very hot - about 72 when we got in. It’s certainly older, which was expected due to the cost, name, location, etc. we laughed at the photo of what we called “George Washington’s ghost child” on the wall. Did have a working tv and had a great nights sleep. The beds were nicely made and clean, all I was really intending for honestly. I did try to shower, however, the water came out rusty and I decided against it. There is a Bake Shoppe which had a large variety and guests who stayed got their choice of certain baked goods complimentary. They could specify which goods are up front so you aren’t disappointed. My 12 year old didn’t think he would like any of them, however, regretted not getting more because everything was delicious. We walked around and looked at the main building which is used for events and has some neat old memorabilia. As I said, it served its purpose, which was getting sleep and avoiding driving three hours home at 11 pm.

We stayed in the motor lodge rooms. Our room could have been a little cleaner as there was dust here and there and salt from outside on the room rug, like it was not vacuumed after the previous guest. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the onsite bakery and restaurant.

Love this place! Have stayed in both summer and winter, the Inn is charming and unique, the bakery is delicious. The onsite restaurant is really good, but there are a lot of great restaurants nearby, plenty of things to do in nicer weather, and even in the snow if you are outdoorsy.

The historic part of the hotel is as you would expect small. I recommend staying in the newer buildings. We stayed in the infamous Room 40 of the historic section. It’s definitely a bit creepy and is allegedly haunted. It features a huge antique King size sleigh bed. Great for couples. We didn’t see any ghosts, but the desk got complaints that we were moving furniture around and the TV was loud. Neither of which was true.
