Hyatt Grand Central New York
5/5 Excellent
"I traveled this weekend with my 12-year old daughter and overall we had a very good experience that exceeded our expectations (given the various hit and miss reviews). I suspect some of the negative reviews may come from unreasonable expectations of chain hotels in NYC; if you are expecting top of the line modern or elegant luxury, you need to pay at least twice as much for a room in this location in NYC. But if you want a great location with decent quality and better than average accommodations in the heart of Midtown, this is a good choice overall.
The hotel itself feels very safe. The doormen are attentive and welcomed us in with a smile, the staff were friendly and polite at check in, and even though we were 4 hours early for check-in our room was ready and we were given our room keys right away.
The common area carpets are relatively new, the room itself was clean and spacious (especially for NYC), and the beds were comfortable. The on-site food "market" store was also well-stocked and the produce quality good (a bit pricey, but this is NYC).
The only "negatives" were that the AC power plugs in the room were old and connections loose inside, so my phone charger literally kept falling out of the socket, the mini-fridge door didn't close properly so the refrigerator compressor ran constantly, and it is disappointing that there was no coffee maker in the room (but I noted this comment in other reviews, so was expecting this).
All that's to say, I would stay here again!"
