Hyatt Vacation Club at The Welk, San Diego Area

"I took my wife, our 4-year-old, and 2-year-old on a surprise vacation to this resort for 8 days. We flew in to San Diego on a Saturday, rented a car, and flew out of LAX the next weekend (because it had the preferable return flight over SAN). I booked a one-bedroom villa with the Mountain View, and it was perfect for our needs. Our 4 year old slept on the pullout couch, and the 2 year old slept in the resort-provided pack-and-play in the bathroom (yes, it was plenty big for that!). The room was very clean, well-furnished, and had everything we would need for a week-long stay. Housekeeping came every other day to tidy up. And the fridge having an ice machine was a huge plus! We spent a couple of days just hanging out at the resort. Pools and slides are great. But the resort is also a day-trip from Disneyland, Petco Park (Padres), the SD Zoo, Legoland, and the beach (we did these). One thing that worried me was them trying to sell me a timeshare, since it is *that* kinda place. On check-in, the resort offered to give me free zoo tickets for my family if I would attend a 90-minute golf cart tour of the property, where she promised not to try to sell me anything. The lady was super nice, but when I said no, she said if I changed my mind, they worked on commission and to ask for her. (commission... I thought you weren't selling anything?) No big deal, just be prepared to answer that at check-in. Overall, great experience. Will definitely go back if we are in this area again!"
