Don't go here. That's the only advice I can give you. In decades of business travel, I've never had as bad an experience as this. Arrived at 1:30 PM and wanted to see if I could get in the room early as I had to catch a shuttle to an event in Big Sur at 2 PM. I was told check in time was 3 pm, but that if I wanted to pay for an extra day, I could have the room now. So the rooms were ready - but it was a cash grab. I told the desk clerk I understood the check in time, but that I had a shuttle to catch and just needed to drop off bags. He repeated the "we'll charge you." I was angry with how ridiculously anti-customer that was, realized the argument would go nowhere with a hotel like that, and turned to go. "That is ****ing ridiculous," I said as I walked out the door. The clerk then banged on the seedy little nighttime check-in window and said through the opening, "Don't come back. You will not be allowed back tonight." I was forced to make another reservation at another hotel, and now have to endure the time sink of protesting the charge through Hotels.com (no satisfaction yet) and then through my credit card company. Pro tip: Stay as far away from this horrible joint as possible -- the Red Lion is a stone's throw away, priced about the same, and is actually a professionally run hotel. Unlike the "Pelican Inn," which is a customer-hostile, smoke-smelling disaster.
