The staff is friendly and the location to downtown Monterey is very good. Room could have been cleaner. There was stuff on the floor so not sure it was vacuumed well. Bathroom was mildly clean.

Where is the management. I see the management often says that they will fix it or they care but it does not appear they do. We had women's panties on the floor in our room and also on the closet shelf. There were holes in the picture frame on the wall that were drilled in. I'm not saying this is what is happening but in shady places that means there's a camera watching you. The wallpaper is new and there's new tile in the bathroom. It looks like the caulking on the bathroom was probably performed by a 2-year-old. Clearly these repairs were done to cover up the black mold that is coming out of the ceiling and is in the walls. The air conditioning unit has all sorts of crap inside of it and the window seals have either dry rot or mold as well. Other people have mentioned bed bugs but that was not my experience. This place has potential to be so much more but I think the hotel staff is given up. I mean how do you miss women's panties. Also in the room we are staying in there are cameras right outside the window. I was afraid to open the window or shades because of this. The front desk staff was very nice and polite except when they called me at 8:00 in the morning asking me if I'm moving furniture. My kids aren't that loud but even if they were you should come knock on the door. When I told the front desk about the black mold and the women's panties the man said he will let the management now. It's tempting but don't do it.

Overall it was a good stay I did see one roach but none after that my key didn’t work at times however the staff was quick to remedy the situation in a friendly manner I stayed for a total of five days it’s a great location try it out for yourself

It was nice but the bathroom window has a lock that latches from the outside so the room wasn’t secure which is concerning

It stayed comfortably in a clean room. I definitely would stay here again.

Inexpensive. Bed was comfortable. Property was poorly maintained.

DISGUSTING place. Mold everywhere, including shower, bathroom tub, tiles, walls of room, and fridge. A CHUNK of mold came off of shower head as I was taking the shower. I found one cockroach on the bed my last night. The room smell like uncleaned cat house. The key did not work every night so I had to go to the front office to reprogram every night. Front office is run by two gentleman who does not care about the job - they made entire front office into toy house and put a sign ' closed due to covid'. It takes 2 -3 rings just to have someone answer. The reservation from website said the room has fireplace. However the office refused to honor the reservation and asked for $ 50 dollar upgrade fee for 'bigger fireplace' room. My reservation was for $ 45 dollars a night. There was someone smoking every night at the patio area. 2 out of 3 nights, I had to listen through someone fighting in parking lot. Its just not very good place for rest or family.

We had a king bedroom and it was spacious enough. Mini fridge/freezer worked well. Blow dryer not so much, but I’ve never been impressed with one at a hotel either. You can tell it’s a little older by little cracks here and there, but nothing major. Room and bathroom was clean, no complaints there. Shower head was kind of low. Perfect for me at 5’3, but my 6’ boyfriend struggled a little. I have hip issues and the mattress flared them up, but my bf had no complaints. Staff was friendly, we had limited interaction. Saw the owner and kids playing in the parking lot but they were quick to move when a vehicle was approaching. There was no problem getting a late check out so I could watch the Raiders opening game that Sunday. Overall we were happy with the stay, price, awesome location. Would definitely stay again.

Easy access. Great distance from everything. Well maintained.

Cool sitting area. Room clean enough, but rug not well vacuumed.

We were really disappointed at the state of this property. It is in need of a serious remodel. The sheets were stained, the shower had something that looked like mold around the top of the tile, the tissue dispenser was covered in rust and yuck. We were shocked to have paid over $100 for a night. We will never return and will tell our friends not to come until it’s been remodeled. Don’t waste your cash.

You get what you pay for. I would not recommend this property.

Pelican Inn is near several other hotels/motels/inns, but we chose to stay here because the rooms have microwaves and fridges, and it was one of the least expensive places to stay. Across the road is a nice park with a walking trail and picnic tables. The place seems a little older, but we didn’t mind. The shower worked well, and the bed was comfortable. We chose an upstairs room after reading reviews about first floor rooms being noisy. We also brought a white noise maker. We didn’t hear anything from other rooms, and we slept great!

This is an older motel, but kept in pretty good shape, and a good deal for $66. You can easily walk to Fisherman's Wharf and all the restaurants and pubs in its vicinity. However, about 50 yards away is the Chopstix Vietnamese Restaurant, which has incredibly delicious food for unbelievably low prices. As far as the hotel is concerned, make sure you get a room on the 2nd floor. The ground floor room is quite noisy since you can hear every footstep in the room above.
