Uncle Billy's Kona Bay Hotel

I consider myself an easy going low maintenance traveler. It's a shame the room was so bad because the hotel staff is super friendly & it's in a great central location. Bottom line is the hotel needs a remodel, badly!!! Our room was pretty awful. I wasn't expecting much from the reviews but I was creeped out by the huge stains on the floor which looked like blood. The smell was a little musty but like I said, this place is old! We had a garden level which was easy but definitely ask for a second or third level if you want any breeze. Also, I booked a king but none of those were ready upon check in so we got 2 doubles. My boyfriend and I had our feet dangling off the bottom and were too cramped to get a good nights sleep. The breakfast buffet is simple but that's what I expected, it's not the Hilton. It would have been better in another room without the blood stained carpet, bigger bed, and breeze but we got what we got. Since they didn't have king beds available they said I could have checked for availability the next morning. However we didn't want to relocate all our stuff and wanted to get in with our day. Make it a quick stay and if you get room 1027 ask for a different room! It served its purpose for our quick 2 night barely in the room stay, but I'll definitely pay the extra $20-$30 for better accommodations next time!

the only nice thing about the room was the proximity to the ocean but if I looked 10 feet to the left there was a screaming homeless woman. I could over look that if the room was decent, which it wasn't. I understand that a hotel is older but there are little things that can be done to make it look decent like running a caulk line to hide the mold. the staff was SLOW and just going through the motions. I guess because this hotel is in the heart of Kona which is a prime location they do not think they need to make the rooms nice. Do not stay here. No worth the price!

as title. plus sand in sheets. changed room. water in shower running under tub causing stink

Room was adequate, kinda old and dingy but location is fantastic. Easy walk to everything. Breakfast is included. Price was affordable.

Old, stinky, bad internet, breakfast is ridiculous

Hotel is right in Kona so it's convenient to shops, restaurants and some beach activities. It's clean, quiet and very affordable given it's location. The rooms are a little small but for just me and my wife it was fine, plus your in Hawaii.

This was a great place to stay, yes it was outdated a little but the rooms were clean and very comfortable. I have stayed in top notch hotels around the world and after spending 3000.00 for week for a room and wondered why! I was never in it. I have peace of mind this time! Great price, great staff.

Ac didn't work. Took 30 minutes to realize it wasn't coming on and we were too tired to switch rooms at that point.

when we arrived there were no hotel employees in sight (4pm) . when one finally arrived (15min later) CV bri*sat the desk she was rude, and non helpful . I paid extra money for a "superior room" with ocean views. The room was TERRIBLE - dirty , run down , and out dated. Not to mention NO OCEAN VIEW! The bed was extremely uncomfortable - there appeared to be a hole in the mattress about the size of a basketball . The pillows were so cheap and hard all our backs and knecks hurt from ONE night. (We could not find any other place on the spot)

Checking in very positive....friendly staff....clear directions in getting to rooms.

Needs a huge update. Our patio door was open about 3 inches and no matter how much we tried to position the doors it was inefficient. We felt someone could come into our room at anytime. When we left for the day we took all our items and locked them in the trunk of our car. We stayed there for a total of 9 hours and that was more than enough. Continental breakfast was mini muffins, toast, cereal and sad looking papaya slices. It would be better if they didnt even offer breakfast...

When we arrived in Kona we were told that uncle Billy's was a great place on the strip in Kona to stay at. After looking it up on the internet we decided it was perfect, inexpensive and we were only here for one night. When we arrived it was before check-in, but they were very accommodating and said that was ok. I had booked a king sweet, I was told that it wasn't available and that they would have to put us into two double beds. I agreed that would be fine. Once checked in we headed up to the room, third floor. First off my husband and I are not picky people, we have both traveled quite a bit and have stayed in some third world motels that were kept better than this joint. The room appon arrival was stinky, dirty, and I now know why they don't show any photos of the bathrooms or carpets in there online photos. list of issues: nothing was cleaned, roaches, a smell that couldn't be identified, for a non-smoking room there were burns everywhere, the topper was that one of the beds had a 2x1 round hole/divet in it. We paid $139 after taxes. This room should have been half the price for the conditions. When I addressed this to the front desk they said nothing was refundable and the would have maintenance look into the room. DO NOT STAY HERE FOR THE PRICE!

Uncle Billy's is an older hotel that could use some upgrading, but is clean and comfortable. Rooms have a ceiling fan, air conditioning and bar fridge. All rooms have balconies facing the well-landscaped central grounds. The staff are friendly and helpful. Location is almost ideal with an open air market on one side and street shops and restaurants everywhere else. Parking on the grounds is $5/day but there is an adjacent free public lot. The included breakfast (6:30 to 9:00) is minimal with corn flakes, oatmeal, toast, fruit, muffins, juice, hot chocolate, tea and coffee. Some variation in the fruit or cereal would have been nice. It does get the day started, however. Fast food and gourmet restaurants are within a 10 minute walk.

extremely slow internet. sometimes you couldnt even get on it

I was very disappointed with this hotel ... or at least my room. I can't tell you that all the rooms are this bad, but based on the overall external condition of the hotel, they probably are. Everything is old and tired, from the condition of the elevator, the paint on the external corridors, to the awful air conditioner and smell in my room. Even the door didn't work properly in my room you had to SLAM it. There is no WiFi in the room. The highlights were very nice employees and the included breakfast. Would I stay again? Only if there were no other choice.

My room smelled so horrible, the walls in the bathroom were covered in mold and mildew, causing the room to smell horrible. For $20 more you can stay at an amazing resort down the street.

its nasty and moldy. the staffs is wonderful for the price is not worthed

They checked us in to a room that was visibly moldy with no towels and roaches, so I asked to be moved to another room. This room smelled slightly less moldy, had a loud broken A/C, and had walls were so dusty you could see it blowing in the breeze. I also found food and plastic trash from previous guests. Overall, the whole place is pretty run down. I thought I'd give it a chance due to the location, but it wasn't really worth it. The hotel advertises free parking, but not in their parking lot. Only if you are lucky enough to find a spot behind their parking lot.The staff was friendly, The continental breakfast was OK. Excellent shower pressure. My bed was very uncomfortable. Believe this and the other negative reviews you read!

The check in staff was cheerfully friendly, courteous, and helpful. Our positive experience ended there. The one and only elevator was slow and smelly. Upon entering our upgraded top floor room, we discovered that the roof had leaked and soaked the bed. The second room smelled of mildew with visible stains of previous roof leaks. Although the air conditioning stayed on all the time, it never sufficiently cooled the room. Very glad that we only reserved a one night stay before moving to our timeshare resort!
