A group of six co-workers booked what appeared to be a beautiful home through VRBO, only to find it misrepresented and poorly maintained. The listing photos suggested a new build, but the home was in an unfamiliar neighborhood where it stood out. Check-in was a hassle as the provided code was incorrect, and the host was unresponsive for over 20 minutes, even to VRBO representatives, causing group to stand in the cold. Once inside, they found the home filthy despite claims of prior cleaning. Dust, dirt, and grime covered surfaces, the kitchen was cluttered and unsanitary, and the filtered water pitcher in the fridge had slime in it. Bathrooms lacked window coverings, forcing guests to block windows for privacy. The grout in the bathrooms appeared uncleaned for years. The home, advertised to sleep 20, had unstable bunk beds, deflated air mattresses, and stained bedding with no available extra bedding for the air mattresses. Nearly all furniture was stained, and a crib in the master bedroom was filled with dirt. Unable to tolerate the conditions, the group left after one night, relocating to a hotel. While the backyard appeared well-maintained, the interior needed significant investment. Host needs to visit their property to see conditions prior to renting out again.
