Nestled between the vibrant resort towns of Saint Joseph and South Haven, Michigan, this stunning three-story home features a modern lower-level walk-out unit with a full bath, two bedrooms, and an open kitchen seamlessly connected to the living room. Perched on a bluff overlooking the shores of Lake Michigan, this property boasts both historical charm and breathtaking views.

Built during the Roaring Twenties, the home carries a fascinating connection to the infamous Al Capone. Its elaborate woodwork, sourced from two mansions in Chicago's Gold Coast, was meticulously retrofitted to enhance the home’s unique character. Two fireplaces further elevate the home’s historical appeal.

Upon entering the upper-level unit, you'll be greeted by a spacious main floor featuring a kitchen, dining room, living room, full bath, and a hallway leading to the second floor. Upstairs, you’ll find four bedrooms (one with a large private balcony) and a full bath, all showcasing the same exquisite historical woodwork.

But there’s more—take the spiral staircase to the newly remodeled third-floor suite. This 5th bedroom includes its own bathroom, sitting area, and a private balcony, offering stunning views of the expansive 2.5-acre property and over 500 feet of private Lake Michigan beach. Newly constructed stairs (completed in August 2024) lead directly to the pristine private beach, making this property an extraordinary lakeside property.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). Nightmare

Our experience at the Upper-level Duplex on Lake Michigan was disappointing. While the property management company's customer service was adequate, we encountered numerous issues. A major concern arose when we discovered we couldn't ask questions about the property until after booking. Initially, we were assured the home had direct beach access, prompting us to proceed with our reservation. However, the day before our arrival, we received an email stating the beach access stairs were under construction and no longer available. Upon contacting customer service for clarification, we received conflicting information. Initially, we were reassured that the stairs were intact, but a subsequent call confirmed there was no direct beach access. We asked about cancelling due to this critical change but were informed cancellation would yield no refund. After escalating our concerns, we were assured at the last minute that the property did indeed have direct beach access, and no compensation offered. Arriving at the property, we encountered further issues. The provided entry code didn't work, resulting in a second code given, and instructions referenced a lever that didn't exist, necessitating a physical key to gain access. Inside, the house emitted a strong musty odor that was horrendous, prompting us to purchase air fresheners. Additionally, there were multiple horse flies inside, further adding to our discomfort.
