We have been going to the Capital Hill site since it was built. However when we arrived and paid our $12 for parking we parked next to the lift in the handicap parking as my wife has terminal cancer ( yes we do have the permit, and we are very late 60s) ....on the front of the lift it had a notice"Use other lift".... we roamed all over the car park looking for the "other lift".....there is only one lift in the car park and it was out of action......no other lift. My wife was exhausted after we searched for the lift and climb the fire stairs to the front desk...where I said " look I am a bit Pi.... off, there is NO other lift....!" The receptionist said " sorry I'm making another sign, the lift is not working"! Well we staggered to our rooms and went to the bathroom only to find the toilet seat very very loose, then we thought we will use the Resturant in house which we have used very occasionally. Well I ordered bacon to my hamburger which was extra cost and my wife a variation to her Caesar salad......the food came and none of the variations we made to our meal happened! Won't be back! Really this was very very poor service all round....certainly not worth the money from a very regular guest

This was our umpteenth stay at Rydges and in particular Capital Hill. Once again a fantastic experience was had. We had a little hiccup with our booking being changed by the computer (modern technology), but this was sorted out out by Chris and Georgina. All the staff are very well trained and are prepared to go the extra mile for your convenience. When we visit Canberra on business or just pleasure we ALWAYS stay at Rydges and happy hour is great. The refurbishment of the rooms has lifted the facility to the next level of comfort.

I stayed here for 2 nights in an executive room whilst in Canberra for a conference. I received an email prior to arrival inviting me to check in online. The email asked me if I'd like a room with a view which I selected. I arrived late on a friday night and was disappointed to discover my room was on the ground floor. The entrance to the ground floor rooms was right next to the hotel bar and had no security to enter the glass door. Traveling alone I felt uncomfortable walking down the unsecure long dark hallway. I finally walked into my room and it was freezing as the heater had been turned off. I opened the blinds to find my view was of a main road. I rang reception and mentioned I had requested the option of a room with a view and the girl laughed at me and said that this hotel has no view. Considering I booked early, am a rewards member and checked in online I would have thought a nicer executive room might have been allocated that wasn't at the back of the ground floor? The lighting in the room wasn't sufficient, the room was dated but the bathroom was lovely and the room was clean. All in all it was good value but just wish they wouldn't offer a view if there wasn't one and that security would be better on the ground floor

If it wasn't for the Winter Special, it's not worth the money. We stayed on level 3, which could possibly be the budget level. The bed had the worst mattress. Friends stayed on level 2 which was much nicer and bigger. We both paid the same price.

My Husband by 8 months old daughter & I spent 2 nights at Rydges. Never again. I couldnt let my daughter play on the floor as it was filthy! And needed a good vacuum, the porta cot was as hard as a rock so we co slept. When opening the mini bar for milk there was a handfull of long black hair sitting with the milk.. So that ment no coffees for us. When our room was serviced the third towel for my daughter was taken, so we then had to share as by the time we realised it was too late to call. Not one of the 3 receptionists we encountered were what I would class as friendly or helpful and clearly took no pride in their work. Needless to say I will never book this hotel again. Rooms need to be check as cleanliness was horrid.

I stayed in a Queen room for two nights. The room was spacious with a seating area. The lighting in the room was poor and one overhead light was not working. The bathroom is renovated, with plenty of space around the basin and excellent lighting over the mirror. The shower has a fixed half-screen which means that water ends up on the bathroom floor and I had to use one of the towels to mop it up. However the water was consistently hot and the pressure was good. The room includes the standard facilities and the bed was comfortable. Overall cleanliness was good but the kettle needed a bit of a clean up and the cups were dirty. The toiletries provided seemed to be of higher quality than the usual hotel standard. The first evening was very cold and despite having the heat turned on and the fan speed set to high, the room would not warm up. I reported this to reception but was met with an indifferent attitude and the repeated statement to "check the thermostat". Well after looking up, down and all over, I determined that there was no thermostat anywhere in the room but I was not inclined to deal with indifference again (it had been a long day) so I just put up with it and threw on yet another jumper. So despite the resolution to not give this hotel another cent, I ate at the restaurant on the second night. Thankfully I was not met with an indifferent attitude from the wait staff and while the meal was overpriced and the portions were on the smaller side, the food was freshly cooked and tasty. My overall rating is average. Points deducted for lack of customer service.

Awesome time, great staff! Good buffet! Dinner menu is great too!! Central place for everything! Love the spa and pool. Staff at reception helped out with my additional requests for a cot and sofa bed. Very friendly and helpful

Well....I have read the reviews of others ....cold dining room....I say "toughen up"...for goodnesss sake it is winter....wear another layer...enjoy the briskness ...in two words "toughen up". The staff were friendly and efficient, the room was clean and warm, parking was good, Wi Fi was good, breakfast, dinner and room service were good, the bed was comfortable, the tariff was very fair, the Canberra attractions were excellent (visit the National Archives for the Gough Whitlam story...just beaut)...so Rydges at Capital Hill is now going to be my benchmark.....if it is rated as three and half stars, then I will have to downgrade some of my otter ratings....because others I have given the same rating are not nearly as good as this. THANKS FOR AN ENJOYABLE STAY.

I travel considerably - and I have never been so gobsmacked about such mediocre and poor service. Annoying aspects include ordering room service, but it never arriving, and then being indicated by staff that they are busy and that restaurant diners are a priority. I was told that I should get food somewhere else. Secondly, I was over charged by $120 by this hotel - luckily I checked my initial quote through the Priority Guest Rewards site, in which I am a member. Staff seem demotivated, not managed, and there seems to be a focus in the kitchen to improve their P&L statement at the mercy of guests. Disappointing. Unprofessional. And very unwelcoming. As a post script there was one male staff member working at night at reception, that was excellent, and should be commended - he made sure that I received a complimentary meal due to the inadequacy of the kitchen staff.

From the moment we walked through the front door, the staff encounter were absolutely lovely, very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Our room was large with a newly renovated bathroom, well stocked and nice fluffy towels. My only complaint (& my error) was I didn't located the button to turn off our heating which was a bit too warm for sleeping although great for other times. Bar staff very friendly and knowledgeable when recommending drinks.
