Where do i begin? My partner & i stayed over the weekend for our anniversary & i would like to say a big thankyou to all the staff for making it so special. We were offered a fantastic offer to begin with, staying in the honeymoon suite. Upon arrival, the reception staff were friendly, professional & helpful. The room was gorgeous!! I loved the spa area for getting ready for a dinner date, the only downfall was the sun pouring in at 7am as there were no curtains blocking this area, which was a shame as we would of loved a sleep in! The next night we were in a suite as my daughter was dropped off, it was huge!! Lil one loved the pool & spa area, the spa was very relaxing & i loved that there were robes to wear down to the pool. Breakfast was pretty good, my daughter loved the donuts!! I think room service breakfast is very overpriced at $35 per person but the $5 happy hour drinks were fantastic. All in all, it was a wonderful stay & made our anniversary extra memorable! Would definately return as the rooms were beautiful, staff fantastic & great location. Thanks Rydges!!
I stayed with my family for 2 nights during the first week of the NSW school holidays in September and it was just an okay stay. On checking in at 3.15pm I was told our room was being cleaned - on the check in process I received by text I had said we would arrive around 2pm, so thought after 3pm arrival would be safe as the check in time is 2pm ordinarily anyway. So it was suggested by reception that we get a drink while we wait...maybe a complimentary one might have been a nice gesture, but as it was a public holiday we found the bar closed...Do all hotels close their bars because of a public holiday??Our room was ready at 4.30pm - we were not informed, it was only that we were told the room number and noticed the door was closed - it had been open during cleaning. So 2.5hrs post check in time this room was ready - really poor. It was disappointing also, that when we were wheeling (myself and 3 children) the baggage carriage supplied by the hotel from our car up the ramp to reception, I was being watched by 2 males at the reception desk - the baggage trolley was moving sideways and we had a great deal of trouble moving it up the ramp to the point bags were falling off... I made light of this with the kids but was very annoyed and disappointed that not only a thread of customer service and respect was shown to me, but just a courtesy to assist someone having some difficulties was ignored. There was no possible way we went unnoticed with this baggage trolley. Overall, the hotel is drab and ordinary - it needs some interior improvements to give it personality and a welcoming vibe, the hotel processes and staff interactions need improvement. We will choose elsewhere next time.
My family had booked to stay at this hotel from Friday 29/9/17 until Monday 2/10/17. We received a text message stating that our room would be ready AT 2 pm, we arrived at approximately 2:15 pm and were told that our room would be ready soon and to wait at the bar. No hospitality was offered to us whist we waited. I was travelling with my family which include 2 children. At 3:15 pm I enquired at reception about our room, at this time i heard the reception staff berating another guest. When asked the receptionist, she just handed me a key and expected me to find my own way to our room. Later that night once we went to bed we noticed that our room had not been vacuumed from the previous guests as biscuit crumbs were all over the floor and we need to remake our beds as they were made very poorly. I spoke to the same person on reception and raised our concerns about the cleaning of the rooms at which point she informed us in a condescending manner that the rooms were cleaned daily. I told her that ours wasn't and that given we had to wait for our room it should have been done to an acceptable standard. Also that we were told that our room would be ready at 2 pm. To this she stated that ready at 2 pm means any time after 2 pm and that they are very busy because of families staying there. As a traveller this is the first time I have been told that at also means any time after 2 pm.
Our stay at this hotel was pleasant. Nothing fancy, but reasonably priced, clean and in a very good location. Lots of nice restaurants and cafe's close by. Good parking. The only disappointment was that it was that AFL finals were on and they didn't have the Foxtel AFL channel only the NRL channel. My husband was not happy. They obviously only cater for NSW & Qld guests and not those from the states that are interested in the other football code. If hotel management reads this I would strongly recommend that they should consider guests from other states and cater for all tastes.
I enjoyed a 2 night stay here in June and have booked my next work trip to stay here again. Staff were outstanding, rooms very comfortable with double glazed windows to block traffic noise out. The hotel is very close and a a pleasant walk to Manuka for shopping and restaurants.
We stayed over the weekend (Fri & Sat) 22 & 23/09/17 and we complained about the air conditioner in our room 217 not working at 20:00 on Friday evening and the guy on reception said the whole hotel was on heating. Again after a very unpleasant night in a "sauna" on our way back from breakfast on Saturday we asked the young lady on reception if they could get someone to look at our air conditioner. Again as if my wife & I could not tell the difference between hot & cold she said the whole hotel is on heating. We persisted and eventually she said she would get someone to check for us. On the way to our room we met up with Damian (from house keeping) who we had met on previous occasions at Rydges Capital Hill and he said he would have a look at it for us. He was delivering a bed to a room and on his way back checked the Air Con and immediately agreed with us tht it was not working!!!!! After about 5 minutes Damian returned and gave us two options for replacement roos and the wemoved to room 190. We went to reception and without any apology at all the same receptionist advised we could move now as the roo was ready. What a differencethe air con worked and it was much cooler. We would suggest that the Rydges Capital Hill get Damian to give the reception and restaurant staff a lession on how to look after customers. Everyone would have a better approach to the customers. The restaurant never seems to have enough staff available no matter how many guests are in house.
We visited Rydges Capital Hill recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a couple of days in Canberra. On arrival we were given an upgrade to a beautiful spa room suite,2 complimentary drinks and free parking. Staff are always pleasant and friendly and the rooms are immaculate. Great place to stay and we look forward to our next visit! The only criticism is that there are no chairs to sit out on the balcony.
From the welcome to the good bye, the service was friendly & attentive! Room service Friday night- yummy & hot New bathrooms wow ! Felt fresh & clean ! Breakfast buffet - a little bit of everything, we woke late & the food still looked inviting ! Went for a swim & then a walk into the city ! This hotel has a good deal of facilities , big sunny windows & good feel without a huge price tag ! Great location close to Manuka & Kingston shopping @ the same time a short 15 -20 min walk to all the national galleries, old house & new ! What can I say : we had a great weekend !
I have stayed at Rydges many times and location is good for my business trips but the place is ageing while trying to maintain a higher price bracket. Service is generally okay but not fantastic. The gym equipment is reflective of the whole place tired but functional.
Our initial room was not satisfactory as next to the toilets near hotel bar and we could hear every flush. Why anyone would be given that room beats me. The room we were changed to for our 3 night stay was comfortable, quiet and warm. What surprised us was that no rooms had any draws or shelves to unpack clothes. We were advised that this is going to be rectified in the next lot of renovations, the bathrooms have been done and they are very functional. My greatest delight was the bed...mattress. Have to say the best I have experienced in a long while. Hotel is in a good area. There are a few other minor things that need attention.
