We stayed two nights at Rydges, Capital Hill Canberra. We had stayed here a few times before over the years because of the position and good parking. It is in a handy spot for Manuka, Kingston and most of the main tourist spots like Parliament house, the National Gallery, Library etc. For a small cost you can have undercover parking which is a bonus in Canberra during winter! All up the hotel has good facilities although the restaurant and bar area looked a bit tired and in need of an update. There is a large well equipped gym area (which we used) and an indoor pool. The staff were helpful and friendly – reception and breakfast. The breakfast has a reasonable choice and you can order take away coffee if needed. We were given tokens for two free drinks which we used the first night. I ordered a sauvignon blanc (one of the choices) and I couldn’t drink the wine – so if you use the tokens maybe ask to try a sip first! The bar area wasn't overly inviting and it was rather cold sitting there. Our room was spacious and included a sofa and sitting area; a small area off the bathroom with the wardrobe and a kitchen sink and bench for tea making. The bathroom had a shower and double sinks. The room was very quiet and had good heating. The king bed mattress was very comfortable. As a Rydge’s member we had requested online a soft pillow and extra tea bags – but we didn’t get the items and we didn’t bother to follow this up. The free wifi was a good speed. If you would like a hotel in a convenient location, in a quiet area and with a gym and good parking then this hotel would be a reasonable choice.
Enjoyed my stay at Rydges Canberra, however you definitely need a car or transport organised as it is not exactly close to the main city center. The hotel was nice and clean and made for a comfortable stay. The only downside to my visit was check-out when what appeared to be a new staff member took an extremely long time to check me out, and then overcharged me considerably. Perhaps train your staff properly before sticking them on the front desk to suffer with things they don't understand.
The staff particularly Ben and Ben were very helpful and went out of their way to assist conference organisers and participants All The food was very fresh and tasty and was very well presented and there is nothing nicer than a had red pinto on a cold night
The rooms are adequate, cleaned daily. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, we had one meal in the evening which was very good, the breakfast/dining area is pleasant to sit in. Parking underneath provided. The location is great, easy to find. Close to Kingston and Manuka shops. Staff friendly and helpful. Will stay here again.
Got a good deal and found the motel good. Staff friendly and helpful. Area good for the big screen, footy, with a happy hour from 5 o'clock. Snacks available. Morning coffee and muffin deal good. Room was roomy and clean. Would stay again.
I don't recommend staying here if your work is unpredictable and leads to you booking each night on a different date. I booked on one date and got an executive room one night and a queen room the next time I booked due to company budget restraints. I asked to be put in the same room for both nights and I was graciously upgraded for the second night to an executive room. I went to the executive room as directed and it did not open (door was broken?). After travelling back to reception three times to ensure my card was not broken they changed my room. This would be a good thing if they had not downgraded me to a queen for both nights, revoking their previous offer of a complimentary upgrade. I found this experience to be a great shame as I have previously had a positive experience at this hotel. I would also add not to bother responding to their check-in email as whatever you put in does not seem to flow through to their computers i.e. my request to pre-book breakfast has not gone through on my two previous visits. As such I must confirm with the staff when checking in face to face to ensure the breakfast will be charged at the pre-booked rate.
- Yeah that’s true, I stayed there for 5 nights & on 2 occasions they entered my room while DND was turned ON. - I placed my Breakfast card on the door outside, no one picked it up till 8:15 AM in the morning, when I called Reception their reply was "OK Sir". - Wardrobe was dirty with coffee or some liquid stains. - Staff was very straightforward & rude in their behaviour, they gave me hard time during check-out sending me warnings of extra fee. - Food was OK. - After check-in I was just asked to go & search for my room along with my luggage. Not expected from such a property.
I would like to send out a massive thank you to Chris and Georgie for going so out of their way to leave a special birthday treat for my son after a long day working. It was so appreciated by his family back on the Gold Coast that your thoughtfulness brightened his birthday even when away from home. He always tells me how wonderful your Hotel and service are, however it is the kindness and selfless generosity you showed today that really sets the Rydges Capital Hill apart, a Hotel with a real heart inside its beautiful exterior. Thank you so much Chris & Georgie 😊💐
Location is practical for those working near the Parliament, but not practical to catch a mean in the evening. The closest restaurants are about 10 minute walk at Manuka Oval and the selection is not the greatest. The pool and hot tub are very nice. Breakfast appears overpriced. The place can use an update, most of all the carpet throughout the hotel which is stained everywhere. Bathroom in the room was updated and modern. Excellent and fast WiFi service.
Most of the places to stay in Canberra have a habit of being ridiculous priced, but the Rydges was available for $200 a night including breakfast. How can you go wrong with that.. The hotel has a gym and pool which is heated to make you forget that you are in Canberra.. which I promptly took it for 1 night. The room and bathroom had been recently renovated and the view was out towards Parliament house. . The breakfast was ok and it was a comfortable place to stay..
