Welcome to Mountain Moonrise — Your October Retreat in the Smokies
Mountain Moonrise is a spacious 3-level chalet thoughtfully designed for families and multi-generational groups. Practically at the doorstep of Ober Gatlinburg and just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, October is the single most spectacular month to visit the Smokies. The mountains are ablaze with color, the air is crisp, and the region is packed with events that make every day of the trip feel full. Sitting at elevation, the chalet’s decks are among the best seats in the area to watch the foliage turn — no drive required. One guest put it simply: “One of the best properties we’ve stayed at. The views were unbelievable and everything was well stocked.”
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The upper level features two private king suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom — ideal for parents or grandparents looking for a peaceful retreat after a full day on the mountain. A charming reading nook between the suites overlooks the breathtaking mountain views — a cozy spot to slow down with a coffee and take it all in before the day begins, especially as the trees hit peak color in mid-October. The lower-level bunk room with farmhouse-style bunks and its own foosball table is a hit with kids. All bathrooms are stocked with full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hairdryers — no tiny hotel bottles. One bathroom also has a bathtub, great for young children.
Main Living Space
The open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area is filled with natural mountain light and anchored by a cozy electric fireplace — genuinely welcome on cool October evenings after a day outdoors. The fully equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a peninsula with bar stools for casual dining, and a complete coffee bar with espresso, K-cup, and drip options. Warm up with a hot drink and watch the evening light change across the ridge from the dining area windows.
Right Next Door: Ober Gatlinburg
Just ~2 miles away, Ober Gatlinburg is hosting its Oktoberfest celebration through November 1 — the mountain transforms into a Bavarian festival ground with live bands, stein-holding competitions, a mountaintop biergarten, and authentic German food including schnitzel, bratwurst, giant pretzels, and apple strudel. Beyond the festival, the park’s full lineup of rides and activities continues throughout the month — Tennessee Flyer mountain coaster, Cloud Catcher ziplines, Smoky Mountain bobsled, rock wall, ice skating, and wildlife habitat encounters. A full day’s worth of options, less than ten minutes away.
Entertainment & Game Room
The lower-level game room is a reliable retreat after a full day out. Alongside the pool table and multicade arcade, there’s a dedicated movie lounge area with comfortable seating and board games for slower evenings. October nights cool off quickly — this room gets good use.
Outdoor Living
The main level deck is where October mornings earn their reputation. Settle into the egg chair with a coffee, watch the foliage spread across the ridgeline, and have the gas grill going by afternoon — all while the outdoor deck TV keeps the game on in the background. The dining table firepit anchors the evenings here, extending the time outside well after sunset. Up on the upper deck, the gathering firepit is the spot for s’mores and night-sky watching as the mountain air sharpens through the month. The lower deck hot tub is genuinely at its best in October — soaking under a clear mountain sky while the cool air settles in around you.
Family-Friendly Amenities
Mountain Moonrise makes family travel easy. The home is stocked with a pack ‘n play, high chair, baby bathtub, kids’ utensils, books, and toys for early readers — so families can pack light and focus on the trip. One guest noted: “This is our third time here and we can’t recommend it more highly.”
Extras That Matter
The home includes a dedicated remote work desk and chair on the main level, a 220v EV charger for eco-conscious travellers (Tesla owners please bring your own adapter), and parking for 2 vehicles on the private driveway with additional overflow parking available at the end of the street.
