Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Durham Southpoint3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed here while attending a DPAC performance. It was great. Hotel seems more upscale than your typical Fairfield INn and Suites. Breakfast was actually awesome. I usually hate hotel buffet eggs but these were fluffy and great. They had options for us GF DF people...and our group of 4 left full. Decor is nice in this hotel too. Close by Southpoint which is a GREAT shopping area.
Top floor(6th) looking out on the Bonefish Grill and a short walk to Chick Fil-A and the SouthPoint Mall. Checked in at 1105 on Monday June 12, and my room was ready, as was Mary Jane at the front desk, always ready to assist, with a spontaneous smile when called upon, no matter what the inquiry. Excellent breakfast buffet with workers always ready to refresh whatever began to empty. Coffee hot 24 hours a day, and excellent ice water with True lemon packets available. Only gripe, mattresses showing their age, a bit soft, but no other negatives.
One night-stay on a business trip, and it was a great choice. I walked to Target and bought snacks/drinks for my in-room fridge. Walked to the next-door mall for dinner. Enjoyed a wonderful selection at the full free breakfast (including fruit-to-go for my meeting!!!). The room was fine: bed firm and comfy, bathroom clean and good water pressure, etc. Interior spaces of the hotel are interesting: rooms along a hallway that opens to the great room/lobby below, kind of like an outdoor motel but enclosed. The very best part was the staff. They were AWESOME. Check-in was great. Five minutes in my room and someone knocked on my door to make sure I was pleased. Later that night and the next morning the same two people greeted me by name and gave me a warm send-off. I felt very special, and that's a rare treat for a chain hotel. Well Done!
I love this hotel! The staff is super friendly, Laurie and Diana were super accommodating and we're quick to help me locate the best of the nearby dining and shopping! We ended each night at the awesome bar - full service, and some time around the fire pit. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone!
My first stay at this location. Check in person was functional but not friendly. Room looked clean but there was BLACK MOLD on the shower curtain liner (see photos). Check out staff was friendly, and receptive to constructive criticism regarding the bathroom. Otherwise comfortable stay. Didn't eat breakfast so can't comment on it.
What an amazing hotel!! Definitely not what we expected. I love the trendy upscale look. What a gem!! The hotel staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. This is my first time in Durham, and Laurie was very patient as I asked for several suggestions. Comfortable bed and clean rooms. We will definitely stay here again.
This packaging looks ok, renovated with contemporary furnishings but we had live ants in our room and dead spiders. We changed rooms but were completely turned off. We were spooked and looking in each nook and cranny in our new room. The front desk staff was ok, nice enough but not spectacular. If you have a bug free clean room I am sure you might be fine but we were not pleased.
My husband and I stayed at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Durham this week while traveling on business. I was tired (read: exhausted) at the end of the day and just wanted to eat at the restaurant and have an early night. Drew was running the restaurant on his own, serving customers and preparing meals. He was very personable and I enjoyed interacting with him both when we first checked if there was something on the menu that would satisfy both of us and a little later when we came down to eat. He even gave us a menu to take to our room so we could call him and order before we came back down which was very good customer service. When we came back down he had quite a few people wanting to eat and he even offered to deliver one gentleman's dinner to his room so he didn't have to wait until he was able to prepare it. My burger was great and so big I couldn't eat all of it. Now to the bed. The bed and worse, the pillows, were hard. My husband likes a much firmer bed than I do and even he thought the bed was too hard. I slept well for about two hours. At that point I was so tired I could have slept on a granite boulder. But after that I woke up and had a very restless night. I am normally an excellent sleeper who goes right to sleep and goes back up to sleep quickly if I wake up. I was so tired that I thought we might have to get a hotel instead of drive home after our last meeting the next day. I drank a few cups of coffee with dinner and we made it home.
I have stayed in many Fairfields, and this one completely blew me away. Has the feel of an upscale full-service: Incredible water feature in an atrium-type setting. 6 floors, great staff - an absolute GEM and the most impressive product that I have seen offered by the Fairfield brand. I will DEFINITELY be staying here again when I return to Durham!
We've just returned from a 12 day road trip during which we stayed in 11 different properties. I wouldn't have a problem staying again in any one of them. Each mostly met my expectations--a few exceeded them. All of the lodgings were in the $65 to $110 price range and all would be considered 2- or 3-star properties. The pluses for this property were the WiFi connections and the guest laundry. Cleanliness and condition of equipment was good. Minuses include the location--signage for the entrance road is very small. If we hadn't lived here before, it would have been hard to find the first time. There was also a loud sound near our room (204 I think) like an electrically powered compressor that bothered my wife's sleep enough that she asked to be relocated. The staff accommodated her needs by moving her to another room. It didn't bother me since I sleep with ear plugs. If I returned to Durham and had business in that area, I'd consider returning to the Fairfield, but I wouldn't go out of my way to book there if something closer was available. Of the properties we stayed on during this trip, I'd rank it 5 out of 11.
