Due to a job opportunity, our family is moving to Panamá for two years and we started this new adventure with a few days at the Westin Playa Bonita. It is a beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. As we arrived, we found they had upgraded us to a suite for no extra cost to help accommodate our dog. Normally, the hotel has a 40lb weight limit for pets but because ours is a support animal, she was allowed to stay with us and was a minor celebrity. Most staff and guests had never seen a Great Dane before. The morning breakfast buffet is excellent including the made to order egg station. We also had a traditional Panamanian dinner that was very good and such a wonderful way to kick off our journey. We spent a lot of time in their four large pools, playing volleyball, monkey in the middle, chicken fighting, and many other games. The other guests were also very friendly. The beach lived up to the name. It is beautiful. We spent time there digging, kayaking, and exploring where we saw many great birds, a few lizards, and some snails. This vacation portion of our move was made even better by a few very nice staff members who took a strong interest in our dog. Ivan and Jorge went above and beyond to make us comfortable.
I got a full body massage with Yanicelis and she was wonderful! I Highly recommend her! I felt so relaxed after! She was very sweet and made sure I was oaky throughout the whole massage. The pools and sauna at the spa were also wonderful!
I ended up in this Gordy all inclusive hotel at the end of an intense trip South America, seeking for some tranquil "descanso" before getting back to my daily work. The first impression of this 600+ keys Starwood property was not good and I recon that my traveler filters played a bad trick in making me reacting pretty bad to the lack of attention to the the customer. I've had to raise a bit (ok I over reacted, yes!) my eyebrows in front of poor English knowledge of the staff and superficiality in meeting customer's basic expectation (eating a club sandwich at the Bar). My reaction started a virtuous "chain reaction" in the entire staff of the bar who made possible - against the apparently firm rules of the house - to order a club sandwich at the bar. Perhaps my "full steam" approach was not ideal given the typical panamense attitude towards service. A bit more of respect from my side would have probably avoided initial hard feelings between customer and staff, but at the end my reaction has generated a genuine interest from the duty managers in meeting my requests. Now adapting to the local culture should be the basic approach of every traveler, but, when it comes to services, a place like Panama who certainly has a great potential to attract different types of customers should become more ready in understanding the average customer wants and invest more on the training of people active in the service and leisure industry, starting from mandatory classes of English. I personally believe that communication is the first step to make a destination known and to generate a genuine curiosity and interest from new visitors with the sole goal of creating value for all stakeholders. A separate word of gratitude goes to Mr Vincenzo Cicirelli, chef the cuisine, that 100% not involved in the "stunt" I went through made everything in its power activate a "disaster recovery" procedure by greeting me (we both share Italian roots) and explaining me why all that happened and thus allowing me to use the right keys to approach to enjoy the facilities of what I believe is a good all inclusive product with excellent rooms.
My daughter and I went for a girls week of pampering and that is exactly what we got. The experience was wonderful, beginning with Johann the caring concierge that greeted us so kindly, then we met Jose Perez who checked us in, and assured us that this one was going to be the first of many trips, you bet Jose!!! we will be back. The facilities are just beautiful, clean, bright. the rooms are great, comfortable, the little shampoos and creams and soaps are provided daily and generously. One rainy day, my daughter was not feeling well and I went down to the restaurant to get some breakfast for her and I was a bit concerned because they told me that no food was to be taken out of the buffet , but they were willing to send some food to the room, in just a few minutes we received the most beautiful cart with beautiful fruits, nuts, cheeses , yogurt and coffee delivered directly by the captain of the buffet Ruth (who is so kind) and with a little note signed by her and by Jhinno, who is also in charge of the buffet in the mornings. We planned an trip to an indigenous village, 2 hours away from the hotel and I asked for some fruits to take on our outing since we were going to be out all day, same thing, NO food out of the restaurant, but so kindly they packed a beautiful lunch for the 2 of us, and they even put little envelopes of mosquito repellent. This is a big place but we felt we were their only guests. Every employee has a name tag the indicates their name and what their passion is, Beautiful conversations and friendships started like this for us, just asking about their passion. The ocean is not great but in a way this is better, not many people there so it feels more private, Two of their lifeguards that we met were just fantastic, Eduardo and Antonio, Antonio's passion is writing, we asked for some of his poems and writings , what a talent Antonio, keep it up. Billy Jean Su in the pool was another great person, bringing us drinks and nachos and more drinks and hot dogs, Their a la carte restaurants are very good, we ate at starfish twice, we liked it that much. Christis and Jose were wonderful.Joaquin an on duty manager was so kind and helpful. The breakfast buffet , out of this world, fresh baked bread, cereals, Champagne , fruits, jams, yogurt , all kinds of eggs, Juices, etc. We have been in 4 other all inclusive places but never experienced such luxury before, the way the serve and present the tables is just exquisite , Over all, a wonderful trip.
From the moment I arrived, I was impressed with not only the decor but the warmth and demeanor of the staff. It was truly VIP treatment. Every one was very helpful: front desk, wait staff, housekeeping. I must mention Liz Perez who was just exceptional in sharing knowledge about Panama. This was a work trip but I must return with my family....this hotel is an experience to be shared.
We were invited to accompany our son and his family to Panama this month for an eight day trip to this gorgeous resort. Whoever thinks they'll get to visit the Panama Canal and watch huge cargo and cruise ships enter and exit the locks, experience the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Caribbean on the other at the same time? Whoever thinks they'll be able to hand feed the wild capuchin monkeys of the rain forests? It was such an interesting and delightful trip! The Westin resort is gorgeous with its five pools and five or six restaurants and bars. There is excellent local entertainment most nights. There is a children's program daily. There is babysitting available. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. The outdoor bar comes in handy under the warm skies of the Caribbean. Spacious suites with gorgeous views are available at reasonable prices. Uber services the area at very reasonable prices also. There really was no reason to leave the resort, though, except to tour the canal area along with visiting the great museum showing the history of the building of the canal and of course, the rain forest boat tour was a really wonderful experience...a must! If you're looking for a unique spot to vacation and to make memories, this is it!
My husband and I loved this resort and we were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived. We were in a Renewal Suite on he 9th floor and the view was amazing! I especially liked watching the tide coming in and then go out and also seeing all the ships lined up waiting to go through he Canal. Our room was amazing, and we never ran out of face cloths(we had been having this issue at another resort earlier in our stay). The pools were clean and since we traveled with no children we took advantage of the Adult Only pool and had the area to ourselves the entire day which was lovely. A special shout out to all those beautiful people who made our stay extra extra special: Ivan S(he was so wonderfully helpful and friendly) Jose F., and Cornelius and last but not least Joshua Anton of Team Starfish! Thank you all so very much!! I cannot wait to visit again!
I liked to go to this excellent place, it was amazing and beautiful. The swimming pool was so nice, the restaurants had a fine attention and also the service was very good. I liked so much, besides I'm very grateful with Dionis the shift manager and Amilkar the personal of activities their help and patience with us. 100% Recommended
We stayed at the Westin Play Bonita during our large family vacation with 14 people, 5 of them were kids. This is an excellent property we had no complaints. See breakdown below: However, first of all some commendations for some of their extraordinary team members: Lady Ortega - served our large group many times and was very attentive, friendly and ensured all our needs were met. Raul - In the lobby there usually at night time. Very friendly offers us lots of information on tours and just Panama in general he was a great help to us during our stay. Lady at starfish add name: served our large group many times and was very friendly and took care of our large family even during busy periods. Juan - our egg specialist at breakfast, knew our entire family's order by the second day. Great person and very friendly. IIda - Pool area. Took care of all our drink orders promptly, very pleasant lady. Lobby - great staff no issues with checking in or out helped us with free toothbrushes and bug repellant. Pool - many pools to chose from there's a shallow kids pool next to kids club which was great for our young kids under 5. The larger pool was warm and wasn't overly chlorine filled. Only recommendation would be that that clean the leaves and bugs from the edges of the pool. Beach - it's not the greatest beach in fact it's probably the worst beach I've ever seen as I've seen a lot of beaches around the world during my travels of the last 20+ years. It looks weird when the tide is out almost unappealing. A lot better when the tide is in. It is swimmable once in the water. As it is warm and clean although it doesn't appear so from outside. We didn't care as this was a trip for our large family and we just wanted to spend time together. Food - all buffets were excellent, just enough variety but no to overwhelming however all tasted great. No complaints. Tried the steakhouse which was good and so was the Asian. All in all an excellent choice if visiting Panama. The hotel has holds of conferences so will see many large groups of teams from various companies around but, didn't really bother us. Their staff and service is excellent they are attentive but not overwhelming very warm and friendly people. Try it out.
Got a great massage at spa. Ms. Berta Pitti did a great job scheduling the massage. The masseur was Yanicelis Miranda. Great heated whirl pool and sauna before the massage. Very clean. I will be going back.
