I traveled to this destination with a large group of people. This is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for comfort and relaxation. Could not have picked a better place to vacation at. Had the best experience at the spa where they took excellent care of me and my sister who was celebrations her birthday that weekend.
The best people, especially Nilka by the pool and Oscar at the door! And Mr. Medina the best Manager! The very best stay ever! The room was perfect and the food the best ever. We will definitely return soon.
I traveled with a very large group (over 600), and the staff made sure that we were well taken care of. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I want to especially acknowledge the bar staff in the lobby bar, especially Jesus. He was awesome, and remembered my name and drink order after the first day. He was tons of fun. Awesome job
This September I was fortunate to receive white glove treatment from the staff at The Westin Playa Bonita Panama. Not only did a property executive personally tour me through the facilities but at every touch point I had a pleasurable experience. I particularly recommend the children's play areas (I'm taking my niece there next!) and spa experience. At the spa, Jenny Maribel, Berta, and Yanicelis made every effort to ensure I had a restful visit. Moreover the spa facilities and treatments were mindful and first class in their sensory offering and amenities.
I traveled with a group of over 600 guests to the Westin Playa Bonita for our annual Labor Day weekend trip. This is my 8th trip with the group and it has given me some decent exposure to all-inclusive amenities. That being said, I do see some areas for improvement at the Westin, but overall I think they did a good job of accommodating our group. Lodging: our room seemed typical of resort style hotels. Very nice bathroom and regular double queen beds. The pillows were heaven! The USB port on our TV didn't work (the actual port was damaged) and maintenance quickly replaced our unit. Everything else worked as intended and the ice machine was right outside of our door so that was convenient. It was also pretty cool to see the ships line up to go through the canal from our balcony. External amenities: The pool area was great! Several pools of varying depths were available. The only thing I would suggest is having a dedicated pool for children/families. I didn't try any of the non-motorized activities but I believe only kayaking was available. Food: Here is where we had some problems. I don't think the management or staff at the resort believed that close to 700 people from the same group would be at the resort on the same weekend. My smaller group arrived a few days before the influx of the entire group and we had no problems; however, when the bulk of the group arrived, it seemed the staff (kitchen and servers) couldn't handle it. Even with a reservation at one of the resort restaurants, it took close to 3 hours to eat and the food was not great. We ended up eating off-resort several times just to not experience that again. After that experience (and the staff realizing we were visibly upset), we spoke with our trip organizer and he addressed it with the staff. We didn't have any major problems after that. Special kudos to Marylin and Richard that served poolside during our trip. Marylin was AMAZING. It only took her about 2 days to remember our orders (drinks and food) by heart. She was pleasant even when dealing with a crazy amount of orders and corrected any mistakes very quickly. We were actually sad when she wasn't there on our last day. Overall, I had a good experience, although the during my next visit to Panama, I may opt to stay in the city.
We like the rooms and they bring to our group event the all inclusive reservations and food was awesome! Also the pool was nice and the view. Conference rooms was very big! I'll love to go know with the hole family.
Overall I would give this resort a 3.5 stars, mostly because it seemed over priced. The Good: the view in the lobby is amazing, the view from all the pools is great, the pools (4) are clean and the grounds are beautiful. Overall we liked the beach okay and it is flanked with lush greenery and mangrove trees. You can see the boats and ships lining up to enter the canal. You are close to the city 20-30 minute drive but traffic can be rough to get to the city depending on Day and time. The Bad: Our room smelled horribly musty and also had a bacteria smell. It's $50 extra for an ocean view room. They charge for an extra guest (which brought their price as high as the gorgeous and Highly recommended Marriott resort in Farallón about 1 1/2 hour drive from here and they have a 5 star breakfast included!!!!). The beach sand is mostly crushed shells, except for some sandy areas depending on the tide. The tide can go out quite a ways and leave the area muddy and rocky. We thought it was still pretty at low tide but you can't get in the water when the tide is out. There are bugs in the evening around the resort. Many people say the water is polluted and we did witness the early morning trash cleanup staff who clear the beach from garbage. The water is murky from the mud but we swam in it and enjoyed it. It was warm with swimmable surf. (The next resort over has a sandy beach and their water never went out too far to swim so you can walk down there and enjoy that beach if the tide is out.) The food was edible but not great. Only one restaurant was open during the low season and it is a long drive to get to anywhere else. I didn't like that there was nowhere to walk or explore, no shops or towns nearby. It feels remote and after 2 meals in the resort I didn't want to eat here anymore. I ordered Panamanian chicken soup and it had canned chicken in it. The burgers had the texture of frozen patties and the buffets seemed expensive to us for the quality. It wasn't horrible but not great either. I personally wouldn't stay here again unless we needed to be near the city. Because we were here for a wedding I'm glad we stayed since we did have a beach, great views and peace and quiet. The Ugly: We had $3000 worth of luggage lost for 6 days then confirmed stolen by either customs or the airport staff. The traffic in Panama is like being in a horror film. Panama has serious issues with their trash and most areas we visited just seemed so dirty. We really thought we would love Panama but honestly we're looking forward to leaving.
I led a group of 670 guests this past Labor Day Weekend and the Westin Playa Bonita did a wonderful job of ensuring all of our needs were met. The resort is beautiful, uniquely located within a 30min drive of downtown Panama and Old Town, while still providing the beach experience many desire. From an operational standpoint Nancy Mendoza and Cesar Barragan are the dream team! I have led many group trips and am use to dealing with 4-5 contacts per resort to meet the needs of my group, but at the Westin Nancy and Cesar do it all. They were always available, made changes on the fly to ensure our needs were met, and went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. I would also be remised if I didn’t acknowledge the excellent work of Linda Noblesilla. She is VERY responsive and made sure all reservation discrepancies were addressed timely. I was also impressed with the way the Westin team worked with us to assist our guests that were impacted by the Houston flood. Very honorable company and people, and there is no other property and no other team I would trust when traveling to Panama than Nancy, Cesar, and the rest of the Westin Playa Bonita staff. Very nice rooms with beautiful views of the the ocean on one side of the hotel and the countryside on the other. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable as was our room overall. This is one massive hotel. You would not know it when you see it from the outside but once you are in and begin exploring you quickly realize just how large it is. Multiple pools, a couple of bars and some interesting restaurants round out this lovely resort just outside the city proper. Absolutely high marks to the bell staff, Ivan S. specifically, and Rose at Taxi services. They both were super kind, helpful and provided EXCELLENT service and recommendations during our stay. The staff in general were good, but Ivan and Rose were EXCEPTIONAL in our opinion and deserve high recognition for their work.
Make sure you get an ocean view room so you can see the ships waiting to enter the Canal. It is beautiful at night! T The hotel is nice, the staff is amazing and the food was ok. A plus is that the gift shop on site is actually priced comparable to other locations in town.
