Checked in here since we have an event at The Manor. The room was big and had a mini kitchen - microwave, coffee maker, stove and big refrigerator. It also has a receiving area. The bed was great. Buffet Breakfast was provided usually sausage, eggs, fruits, waffles, cereals and bread. The space for breakfast was too small especially if the hotel is highly booked. Over-all i can recommend this hotel. Stayed also in their branch in Manhattan, New York City
Normally I would give a 3 for this hotel because the rooms are in definite need of renovation, which is planned for 2018/2019, but because of the staff, they get a 5. Lobby and bar/dining area is now renovated and looks great. Whatever you want, the staff will go out of their way to see you are happy. Free parking, free breakfast (which is actually really good) and free happy hour on M, T, & W.
We became refugees of the last nor'easter on Thursday, March 8, 2018 with no power that began on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. We found a one bedroom studio at the Marriott Residence Inn located at 107 Prospect Ave, West Orange, NJ 07052, that allows pets! This is a very pricey hotel, mostly for extended stays, but you can book an overnight as well. Our one night stay cost us $324.34! Because of the storm that left us with no power and almost 2 feet of snow they only had one, one bedroom studio available for one night so we grabbed it, thinking that as power was restored we might be able to extend to Sunday, March 11, 2018 as that was the estimated time the utility company gave as the target date of returning power. The front desk employees were not very welcoming or informative. We were not told of any amenities they offered like a breakfast and the time schedule, or that the hotel has a "restaurant " or it's time schedule. In the room there was no TV schedule or guide, the Sofa bed is unuseable to sit on or to sleep in. I was unable to locate silverware and had to call the front desk to ask for some which took 45 minutes to arrive. When I did call the front desk for assistance I had to wait long periods of time for answers or solutions. after I checked in and got settled in, about 1 hour later the power was lost at the hotel as well. We waited believing this hotel should have a proper amount of back up generators to service power to us and the power did return about 20 minutes later. On Friday morning I checked with the front desk about another night stay and they said nothing yet but check back before noon check out time. I went out to purchase a few necessary items and returned to the hotel carrying my bags when the woman at the front desk said we were good to go for one more night. I went back to my room carrying several heavy bags and put one down to open the door. I used the security latch to keep the door ajar and left one bag up against the door as i entered the room to put the other 3 bags down. I turned around to get the other bag and someone swooped up my bag and took off with it! I opened the door and there was a maid in another room cleaning who heard me saying someone stole my bag and she came out to say she did not see or hear anything. I reported this to the front desk who said they would contact housekeeping and maintenance to ask if anyone took it thinking it was trash. I was informed no one saw it or took it from hotel staff. the front desk said they would look at the tapes and to be patient as it would take a while. Upon completion of reviewing the tape the hotel employee said they coulld see no one and that they weren't responsible . I told them the bag that was stolen contained a $120.00 electric tooth brush, my daughter's medication that could not be replaced with out going to the doctor for perscriptions and repurchasing them, clothing, and other personal items, which all totaled would cost alomst $500.00 to replace. At this point I was speaking to the general manager for the hotel and iIwas under the impression the"tapes" being reviewed were of the hallway my room room was located in. The general manager said the tapes showed nothing again, and when I questioned how could you see my bags and know what they look like, but can't see who took it, she scoffed saying. "the hotel can not be responsible for anything left outside the door". Nothing else, no I am so sorry, we are concerned about theft and will have a report filed, do you want to call the police and file a report, can we get you a toothbrush some deodorant? Nothing but your screwed, we don't care. Needless to say I checked out immediately having to stay at another hotel 15 miles away. As I left I asked for a copy of the bill and asked to be fully refunded. This time another very nasty employee printed my bill out and handed it to me by flinging it at me and said she wasn't refunding anything for the night spent there. i told her their attitude and refusal to offer anything as an apology for what happened on their property is what will get them this review and she rolled her eyes at me and snapped back saying "We told you we're not responsible". So if your're looking for a place that offers very little service, reprehensible attitude, and nothing but a roof over your head, then by all means stay here. you can actually get that same attitude, ervice and roof for less than 1/2 the price if you shop around. If you would like a better "bang for your buck" stay at the Wilshire Grand located at 350 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052. they have the best mattresses, and bedding, large rooms and welcoming, attentive staff. Also expensive and geared toward business, but you'll be much happier. They now accept pets too so it a bonus!
Stayed in this very nice hotel in West Orange NJ. We had a wedding nearby. Nice and hotel suite. Very elegant and comfortable. Front staff very professional and courteous. All necessary amenities of a nice hotel. Plenty of free parking. Close to Synagogues and Kosher restaurants.
Unfortunately, I was less-than-satisfied with the stay at the Residence Inn West Orange. This was primarily due to the extensiveness of the renovation, which was seriously downplayed on the hotel's website and on Expedia. Although the hotel indicated that the renovation would impact the "lobby" and "meeting rooms," that wasn't nearly all. The hotel's large, great, Hearth Room was unavailable, forcing breakfast and the bar into an unappealing small meeting room. No room service is available. Many of the hallways en route to the guest suites were under extensive construction, the walls covered in plastic, and workers walking around most of the day. The hotel was unreceptive and indifferent to my displeasure at the guest experience, stating only that they had disclosed the renovation on the website. Furthermore, there was an extremely strong odor or marijuana emanating from one of the suites near my room. I informed the front desk about this, and they thanked me for letting them know. But the odor remained in the hallway for almost an entire day. To end on a positive note, I was pleased with my room; it was spacious, clean, and well-furnished and accomodated me well.
We stayed here for 2 days because our nephew got married. Older hotel but very nice great bar on the ground floor and free breakfast every morning. The rooms were huge and we were in a suite not sure if all rooms were like that but reasonably priced for what we got.
Just returned from another work trip stay at this hotel. Carol of the front desk staff once again greeted me. This time with a totally unexpected but much appreciated hug! Room was ready once again before check in time. Room had an oversize(d) bathroom which was nice since I wasn't going to be able to work much in the desk area on this trip. The Residence Inn Mix "Happy Hour" events were great as usual for unwinding, networking and meeting new people. Can't wait to come back!!!
This is a very nice Residence Inn, the rooms are large and comfortable. The common areas are spacious and well maintained. Carole at the front desk is most accommodating, helpful and professional. The breakfast is diverse, filing and coffee is good, it is a better standard than most free breakfasts. The bar food at is just average.
In early Nov 2017, hotel lobby undergoing a renovation, but the staff remains ever welcoming and hospitable! Breakfast is offered daily. Hotel is dog friendly. Room blocks can be obtained and discounts apply.
My wife and I recently had a wonderful stay at the Marriott Residence Inn in West Orange. I would recommend it highly for anyone considering staying at the hotel. We were having our home reconstructed and stayed at the hotel for two months. As a residence in, the hotel provides exactly what you need to have a comfortable stay. So, of course, there is a full refrigerator and stove. The kitchen even has a dishwasher. Supplied were all the necessary pots and pans, utensils, dishes, cups and glasses. There was a coffee maker, a toaster, just on and on, everything you needed. But it is much more than that. The Residence Inn has high ceilings in the rooms. One of the things that makes you feel "boxed in" in a typical motel or hotel is just that the ceilings are low. These ceilings are the same height as ceilings in a home, and it makes a difference. In addition to the visual effect, the air is just better. Which, of course, is why schools, by law, have to high ceilings of a certain height. The furnishings in the room are real wood furniture, not some of the cheap press board imitations. They give you everything you need. The hotel has a pool, a jacuzzi, a laundry room, an exercise room. Plus it has a real courtyard with very nice landscaping. That comes complete with a real grill. People were out there grilling all the time. Then to the breakfasts. Most complimentary breakfasts are pastry and coffee. This was very very difficult. Every day had scrambled eggs, sausage, oatmeal, grits, coffee, bagels, breads, pastry. The list goes on and on. Now this hotel is owned by the same gentleman who owns a well known NJ restaurant /catering hall, right next door ---- The Manor. So the food is not "hotel" food. The food is good restaurant quality food. And then to the staff. These were not ordinary staff. These people knew their jobs. They were extremely competent, professional, friendly and helpful. And not officious. Nothing worse than some 25 year old inexperienced kid talking to a 50 year adult, as if the 50 year old is a child and knows nothing. None of that, at all. Nice little bar downstairs, pool table, nice decorations. So, yes, this is a great place to stay, highly recommended.
