Unfortunately, we booked later than we had liked and many other condo's were already booked up for the time we were to be there. We booked this place because it was really all that was left. Upon arriving I noted the 4th floor walkway/balcony shook when we walked on it. I noted several outside areas (stairs, balcony railing etc) that need repairing. As for the room: ONE roll of toilet paper and ONE roll of paper towels for four occupants staying three nights! We went and bought more of course, but took it with us. The room was ok. Way too many breakable items that took up lots of room in the bedroom and living area. Bathroom towel racks were falling off the walls. The kitchen was a little lacking in usable items as well. The checkout instructions (lets face it, they were more like orders that were to be obeyed) stated that towels were to be placed in the washer and washed. Great! Can they at least supply some detergent? Same thing for the dishwasher, we had to purchase dishwasher detergent in order to wash the remaining dishes per the check out orders. All in all, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The road noise is incessant and tricky to cross the road to the beach. The pool is small and was overcrowded.
I've stayed in many beach towns and condos and all of them were nicer than this one with a better price. If I were paying less, I wouldn't have been as disappointed. I went with my husband and 10 month old son for a wedding in Gulf Shores. The condo was very outdated, from the linens to the TV sets. The tvs were very old and outdated and I didn't even want to turn them on. There was at least one dirty dish but that's not a big deal, it can happen. There was one hanger in the closet, it had three rows, but one clip was missing. Seriously, hangers are cheap, there should have been a few in there. The blinds were messed up so you could see in our room from the outside hall. The balcony was small but worked for us and the outside furniture we liked. We could see the ocean well from the balcony but you can't hear the waves very well because of traffic. There really isn't a safe way to cross traffic because there aren't a lot of stoplights and there is no crosswalk. I think this is more of a Gulf Shores thing that could be fixed. The pool was okay. It was clean and had plenty of lounge chairs. We had friends staying in 209 and it was slightly more updated. It had a nice flat screen tv and the furniture was better. Their blinds were worse than ours. There was a lot of loud noise from the halls and from the people above us. Our friends had the same problem. One night we were woken up at 3:30am by a domestic dispute to the point I wanted to call the cops and probably should have. It's a loud noisy place and I would not return unless it was half price.
The resort itself is fine-nice pool and gym area. Lots of kids so good for families. It is noisy from the road traffic and the beach is a nice little hike across the busy road. The furniture was comfortable. The location is fine. The unit itself, however, was another story. I read the reviews after my husband had booked our stay but being an optimist I wrongly assumed that the problems described by others had been fixed. I was so very wrong. When you take 4 kids plus 2 adults to the beach and plan on having a working washer and dryer, it goes well. When neither works (one not at all and the other just barely), it becomes a nightmare. When I finally got hold of the owner and they got someone there our next to last day, the washer worked for exactly one load before breaking again. The unit was also filthy. There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher and the pans for the oven had obviously not been cleaned in quite sometime. I am not one prone to exaggeration- I have pictures (see below). We paid a lot of money for a vacation that left me angry and exhausted. It has taken me months to do this review because I needed to calm down. My husband used Airbnb to book this and now he knows better. Trip Advisor is the way to go.
We rented unit 206. Great view; great price. Very clean. Unit had paper towels; toilet paper; one dishwashing pod and one tide pod. That helped out a lot. Plenty of cooking tools; plates, Tupperware, etc. Also had a garbage bag; but you'll want more than one, most likely. It was great to have washer and dryer in the unit; I kept up on laundry while here and saved myself time from doing laundry at home! You'll need your own groceries including seasonings, etc. I brought along two extra garbage bags. Glad I did. Will definitely come back! See pics for Views from our balcony.
Grand Beach Resort is in a great location it is close to town. Our family will never stay here again!! The building is needing some upkeep and our unit was not nice the beds were terrible there were no mattress pads just sheet and mattress and it said that it had a king bed in the loft but it was two twin beds pushed together very uncomfortable. The kitchen some of the frying pans handles were about to fall off and the ice box on the inside area around the door has rust all around it, the living room area rug was old and looked very dirty along with the furniture looked very worn out. We never give bad reviews for places that we stay at but i am sorry this place is not nice!! Very unhappy from Texas if an individual owns this condo you really need to take better care of your unit, this place just did not feel clean at all
Enjoyed the area! We had a couple of issues. Rules weren't posted clearly in areas, such as the pool area. The security guard was not very polite. Then as it got closer to the weekend. Teenage sports teams moved in and caused some issues the last night of our stay causing us to want to leave and find a hotel.
We stayed in unit 209. I like the location of Grand Beach. However, the entire facility needs some serious TLC. There was ample space in the unit for a family of 4. The TV in the master bedroom didn't work and even if it had, it was so small we wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. The bed was too big for the master bedroom, so there was about 1/2' of clearance between the footboard and the swing of the door, which resulted in pinched fingers. Upon arrival at 3:00 PM, housekeeping was not finished cleaning and asked if we could return in about 30 minutes. We stayed and just had her clean around us as we moved stuff in. Extra toilet paper was not provided, so bring your own if you stay. Also bring trash bags and dish detergent. :-/ This was our first trip to Gulf Shores, as we usually vacation in Destin, FL. It was 4th of July weekend and there were softball tournaments going on, so the area was pretty congested. The fireworks from the pier were extraordinary and made some of the inconveniences worthwhile. Not sure I would stay at Grand Beach again but it wasn't horrible.
Grand Beach Resort is a great location if you are looking for a quiet beach vacation. It is at the east end of Gulf Shores next to Gulf Shores State Park. It is across the street from the beach, but the protected sand dunes across the street and the nearby state park fishing pier leave an open view of the Gulf. It is very easy beach access by simply crossing the street. Walking west down the beach toward the larger high-rise condos, I felt like we made a very good choice. Our end was much quieter. The building itself is showing signs of aging. The exterior walkways are made of some kind of composite material that was bubbling and cracking from moisture. Many of the units had keypad entry, which is nice for larger families who don't want to worry about splitting up keys. The pool area is small, but appropriate for the size of the resort. We stayed during Easter/spring break week, and had no problem finding chairs around the pool. I was also pleased by the attentive security guards. I saw them here every day checking the parking area, and one day when I had briefly left beach chairs outside the door while I changed my clothes and grabbed my car keys, he knocked to let me know that it was a fire code violation. Inside, Unit 416 was very spacious and in good condition. Most of the 4th floor units have lofts, as do the 5th floor "P" units. We had a full bath with a tub, plus a half bathroom. Spiral stairs in the living area lead up to the loft, which had a king bed. The main living area is decorated with mostly neutral walls, yellow, green, and blue accents, and some brighter colored décor. The only true bedroom was decorated in a bright pink color and had a queen sized bed with a dresser and closet. Bunk beds are built into the hall. The sofa in the living room is a pull-out bed. Kitchen was well equipped. Washer and dryer in the unit. This unit would be a good size for up to 6 adults. We rented through Kaiser Realty/Wyndham Vacation Rentals. Their website was very easy to use, and they had a mobile app that works well but is a little lacking in content. Customer Service was great. I was glad that we were able to check in on a holiday.
I have stayed in various units at Grand Beach f2-3 times per year for about 15 years. Just a few years ago I would have rated it 5 stars! I absolutely loved it here! My kids called it "our other home". All rooms were always very clean. The hot tub and pool were not crowded and were actually enjooyable. Met lots of very nice, considerate people. And slow elevators? Oh well. No biggie. I'm really not a picky person and prefer not to sit in the condo all day long anyway. So for me to start giving up on this condo means some pretty serious things have changed. Until a few years ago, my husband and I would VERY QUIETLY just the two of us sit in the hot tub during the middle of the night. Did it for years until cameras were installed and a security guard told us that wasn't allowed anymore. This upsets me because I have always respected the property and treated it as if it were my own, yet I can't have a few quiet minutes? What a way to run off loyal customers. Now, there are kids screaming all day long, sometimes throwing rocks up at the balcony. I think the paying adults deserve a little quiet time at night. This last trip, I had to walk next to a group of scary looking men who were (unbeknownst to me and my sons) hanging out between my vehicle and another one in the dark. I think it was only because I had my gun that they backed up a bit. It makes me mad that there are cameras on the hot tub and not on the parking lot. And, the road is much busier nowadays. Not sure if the pier has anything to do with it or if there are just more people coming each year since Ivan. Nothing really that can be done about that, but I feel very sorry for the owners here. I hope that some sort of changes happen soon before the whole place is trashed. I know that it is hard to find a condo for the price of this one, and I used to really feel like it was a good deal for those who don't care about beachfront. But I'm really thinking that I would be just as well to stay in a hotel off the beach and drive a short distance since we don't really even go outside at GB anymore because of the chaos.
The room we stayed in was really nice with comfortable furniture. The kitchen was stocked with most of the dishes you'll need with up to date appliances. We had two adults and four kids and were very comfortable. The price was very reasonable for the location. A couple of things you need to be aware of: 1) the wi-fi is spotty at best. If you need a reliable internet connection, you're out of luck. 2) You need to cross a VERY busy street to access the beach. Expect to wait two to four minutes for a safe gap. 3) Bring your own toilet paper. Both bathrooms had a role, but it was mostly gone in one of them.
