Nice but disappointing

Stayed at this property with my dad and 3 kids. I originally read reviews from years past and contacted the host about the cleanliness and the fold away bed being fixed. I was assured housekeeping would be up to standard and the fold away bed was fixed.The host reached out to me before arrival to make sure the house was clean. We had not arrived yet, but I told them I would let them know. We got there very late that night. Lights were on and house was very clean. Gave the a rating of 5 (1-5 and 5 being the best). Next evening, we got the fold away bed out, and the bottom fell apart. I improvised and just put the mattress on the floor for my youngest. There was a DVD player and movies available, but no HDMI cord. I contacted the host and was told they would let me know about getting one, was never contacted about it again. There was not a single broom in the house to sweep. I did not contact the host about this but should be a basic necessity. My dad slept on the fold out couch, said it wasn't really comfortable. The house is cute, good location, quiet area, washer and dryer work great, just really need to get a brand new foldable mattress and stop "fixing" the broke one. Also there weren't extra pillows for the extra sheets sets. Customer service was good at responding to texts. I've stayed in other Vrbo's before, so I can tell a difference between a private owner and rental company now.

Great stay

Husband and I were here for a few days and the location was perfect. Covered Parking is so convenient especially cause we did have some rain. The house is small but super cute and had everything we needed. We had a great stay.

Writers retreat

I needed to work on my book so I booked this property. The beach is right down the road. It was clean and quiet and in a safe neighborhood. I would stay again.

Our stay

Very cute home in a very relaxing neighborhood. The outside areas were great for kids to be kids. The inside was clean on a surface level. There were, what seemed to be, dirty linens left in a front closet, dirty couch cover and between couch cushions were dirty. I have housekeeping background so it's all things I typically look for but normally wouldn't be a big deal. The mat in the shower though does need to be cleaned. We took it out for our stay. The AC unit was not working but management was very quick to fix it. They really do care that your stay goes smoothly and I appreciate that. The fold out bed that is provided was broken so we were unable to use the frame. We were so busy during our trip I wasn't able to relay this to management. It was also great that hygiene products, laundry soaps and dishwashing soaps were provided for us so a big thank you to management!

Nicely located

This property appears to have been newly renovated. The paint is fresh and the house doesn't have a "used" feel to it. We really enjoyed the location: close to town, can see the beach from the deck (I could even enjoy the sounds of crashing waves in between bits of traffic), and close to Waterman's Marina where we stored our boat. The beach access nearest to the house was a really wonderful place. I appreciated that the house wasn't overly decorated. There were a few pictures and knick knacks to add to the hominess of the place without having to work around too many things. The kitchen was stocked okay, but it is one of the lesser stocks kitchens out of all the houses we've rented. I did have to bring several things from home. This isn't so much a bad thing as just something to keep in mind while packing. I really appreciated the beach chairs and boogie board! All the Florida houses we've stayed at have had beach going amenities (chairs, coolers, sand toys, etc), and I found this to be such a nice gesture. This is the first Galveston house that we've stayed at that have some of these provided. Neither my husband nor myself noticed on the listing that this is only a one bedroom house. While it might be there, it wasn't clear or obvious, and we were both very surprised when we arrived. We knew it was small, that it sleeps up to 7 (do not bring 7 people to this house!), and that there was only one bathroom, but we did not know there was only one bedroom. There are two camp beds included, but there isn't a convenient place to have them. Furthermore, the linens were kinda thrown around in the closet. It would have been nice for them to be bundled into bins or baskets so that they are more easily recognized. Some weren't folded, and I wasn't sure if those were clean or dirty. There were also various things left around the house that gave the impression it wasn't completely cleaned. We found things such as random earrings, clothing tags, produce rubber band (in the armoire), used eye drops, a red substance on the bottom side of the bathroom cabinet, and a disconcerting substance on our sheets. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and will consider returning.

Several issues and concerns

The house overall is very cute, but several negative things kept adding up. The first few things could be overlooked if there had not been some major concerns. The first thing we noticed was the outside trash can was completely full from previous guests, and about 3 or 4 full bags of trash were sitting outside of it. We had an issue with bugs (small stink bugs) constantly getting in the house, which we initially assumed had to do with us opening and closing the door, however the problem persisted throughout the whole weekend and only got worse. By Sunday they were completely littering the windows and cabinets in the kitchen (I realize it's not 100% the owners fault, however, its clear they haven't sprayed for bugs at all). There were 7 of us total, and we were only given 4 clean towels. The floors were VERY dirty, after we had only been there for a couple hours our feet were already black. There was a large stain on one of the "clean" blankets. Finally, the two biggest concerns was the severely leaking kitchen sink, and the missing battery from the smoke detector. We couldn't run the kitchen sink for longer than 60 seconds before the entire kitchen floor would be flooded with water. The first time we noticed, we looked under the cabinet and saw there was a large bowl placed under the piping that was completely full of water and overflowing. After dumping out the bowl and using our only 4 towels to clean up the kitchen floor, I replaced the bowl under the sink thinking it would catch anymore leaks...nope. Apparently, it wasn't even leaking from the pipe, because after putting the empty bowl back, the floor was still flooding every time we turned the sink back on. We couldn't even figure out where the leak was coming from under the sink. To top it off, on Sunday morning we noticed the smoke detector didn't have a battery in it, and was just hanging open. This is obviously a huge safety concern. I will say that Vacasa is very responsive, and maybe we should have called about the sink while we were there, but we didn't notice it until Saturday evening and we were leaving Sunday anyways. I called Vacasa to report the issues, and they were very nice but didn't really do anything except say they'll look into it. I wasn't looking for a refund, but they just didn't say much. It's unfortunate because the house is cute and only a 9 min walk from the beach, so it has a lot of potential, but there were a lot of problems. Luckily we still had a good time.

Evaluation

Property needs attention on disposing previous garbage. I took mine home. Could not manage taking out because of weight and I am of little stature. Needs umbrellas and grill outside. Only one key available. Rearrangement of queen bed in bedroom so access can be made to bathroom. Not acceptable for an older person, as myself. Too far to go. to bathroom. Toilet seat needs repair and I repaired knob on bedroom door that was coming apart. Overall it was a cute place. Just a few hiccups that can be remedied. Close to my daughters so that was nice. Reasonable. Thank you.
