We LOVED the condo location, the fully stocked kitchen, the beach, its location on the island, the condo pool, and the local Lovers Key Estuary kayak tour and the Fish Tale Marina restaurant and Dolphin Tour. Initially we found the owner to be very accomodating and responsive when we asked questions and requested flexibility on the check in and check out time-we appreciated this.
The evening of our 5th night we discovered the AC/furnace was broke. It was 81 degrees and muggy inside, (more humid outside so open windows not a fix). We contacted owner rt away and since it was Sat night he said soonest repair person could come would be Monday a.m....The ceiling fans all going on high kept the situation tolerable but it was not comfortable or enjoyable, we didnt sleep well. The owner offered to comp us for floor fans, but the ceiling fans were doing fine at moving the muggy, warm air around-what we needed was cool, less muggy air. He also offered to comp us for two FUTURE nights of a stay- I declined as this was a special occassion, once every 5 years kind of trip for us.
After AC repair came on Monday and we felt the cold air working as it should, we realized the condo was not cooling and taking the humidity out ALL WEEK, we just didn't have a basis for comparison and just figured "that's Florida". Per the repairman the AC unit was @13 years old and showed signs of not being regularly maintained (the filter was filthy and full) and it needed to be replaced. I sent a text to the owner (as that is one of the ways we had been communicating), and explained all that and asked him to compensate us for this discomfort and inconvenience by reimbursing us for part of this stay. I received NO reply from him. I waited a day and sent the same message thru the VRBO email system, it's been a day and a half and still no reply from him. I tried to address this privately with him but he has left me no choice but to be public now. I still hope he will do the right thing and compensate us.
