It was a cute little hotel with a BEAUTIFUL indoor pool. I wish there was a hot tub/jacuzzi, but was still very pleased with the indoor pool. Room was spacious and clean. However, the door was warped and it didn't seem to close completely (flush with the trim) - the bottom was jutting out. And the toilet seat didn't fit right - it was a round bowl with an oval seat. Breakfast had a good variety and staff quickly replenished it quickly. Would stay again if we were in the area again.

First experience was with, of course, the front desk--SURLY. No elevator. Room was dark. Beds okay, though. Morning staff just as surly. Not a happy place.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms could have been updated and needed a really good cleaning.

Good hotel, food near by and Mao in lobby was helpful in helping us find the lost coast which was a great trip. Room itself was sufficient

The OK...bed was surprisingly comfortable, breakfast was not bad, river walk location good for morning walks. The disappointments....stayed 4 nights and the room was never made up...room key failed me 5 times....grounds of hotel very unattractive, room ran out of toilet paper and I had to go ask for some, parents down the way had to ask for a hair dryer as their room had none, no gym. If you need to stay in Fortuna CA I suggest the very nice Comfort Inn, Best Western or Super 8..... All are right next door. last time I let Orbitz suggest a hotel.

Location of room from parking lot ok. 3 things we noticed right off.. Had a horrid wet dog/pet smell all over the air, bedding ,pillows,ect. Refrigerator was making a loud annoying noise. And found two black spiders on the walls. I called over to the office first. They suggested taking another taking another room a lot further down the parking lot. We just looked at it from the parking lot. EXTREMELY loud adults and kids and no parking. One of the patrons had a big truck/parked sideways. Hard to get in and two noisy. Front desk said that that's all they had, so we decided to leave then and continued our trip back home instead. Even though we were only there 10 minutes at the most. Took about a week to get my money refunded them. I had to make daily phone calls to them about it. The right person was never in allegedly. And no one else wanted to take care of the problem. Hotel is not accusable or people friendly

A poorly run motel that is short on services, comfort and competent staff.

Check in was smooth, staff were nice and helpful. We were unfortunate to get one of the back rooms, and I only say that because you have to walk down this dark, concrete hallway to get to your room, which seemed kind of sketchy and very loud with all the echoing. The room was very big, and I liked it because it had more personal touches, not the typical stuff you would necessarily see in a chain hotel. However, the hotel looks like it hasn't been redone in a while and it's starting to show its age. The bathroom seemed a little dirty, but not that bad. I also thought the bed was very comfortable. Even though the hotel seems a bit older, I would still stay here again.

We stayed here for one night during a trip down south. We were looking for an affordable safe place to stay and Redwood Fortuna was perfect. The hotel seemed to have been updated to have a more modern boutique hotel feel amongst a few other mainstream hotels in the area. We enjoyed out stay. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the front desk stay was friendly. I would stay here again.

This has been my stop for years when I travel up and down the Coast. I have always received courteous treatment from the hotel staff. So nice to pop in...tired...and find a clean...comfortable room to just relax in. I think their room rates are reasonable which include a nice variety of breakfast foods to start your day.

Very quite hotel, staff was great, close to the 101 and walking distance to the river. Went to a wedding in Ferndale and only 15 minutes away. Lots of places to hike and very dog friendly. Great breakfast and you have to try the brownies at the front desk.

The friendly, but incompetent staff wasn't much help with the various claims the hotel offered. Such as jacuzzi, heated pool, HBO, and wifi in rooms. Truth be told: The jacuzzi was empty and looked to be long since broken. The dirty pool was cold. The wifi hardly worked. And there wasn't any HBO. If those things don't bother you... It was fine.

WE were on a road trip down the coast of Oregon and California. We were in the habit of finding a hotel when we wanted to stop. -- no advanced reservations for us! Despite our last minut approach, the Redwood Fortunate Rivermark's staff welcomed us like frequent guests. There is nothing too fancy here but there were some nice amenities, like a sauna and an above average breakfast.

Hotel is clean, good location not far from the highway. Staff were friendly. We found the bathroom had a good shower, as nice as the high priced spread.

The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding. Staff were great and quick to respond to all requests.

So nice to not to stay at chain, with modern & clean rooms. The breakfast was homemade and unique, the lobby had a great rustic flair and so did the room and artwork.

Nice place, however a little pricey. Front staff very nice and polite.

It's a very nice place, on the outside. The staff was wonderful. The main lobby and outside look wonderful. However, once we entered the room it was much like an old motel. The mattress needed to be changed. It was clearly old. Did not feel good after a very long drive. The sheets were stiff and harsh as well. A new mattress and some nicer linens and the room would be wonderful. For that value, I would prefer a better bed. I would recommend the hotel to anyone going there.

quick overnight stop on the way home from oregon

Surly?! Very sorry, we very much pride ourselves on our service and the amazing staff we have here at The Redwood. We are two story hotel with no elevator. Please be sure to read all the reviews on all the sites... our staff is amazing.

Well... at least the staff was good! We had a table break and we are indeed short... we are in the process of getting a few ordered. Chairs are arriving this Friday. Full breakfast is back in service. And lastly, we have hired a housekeeping supervisor that will ensure all rooms being maintained properly.

Staff is great here at The Redwood. We have been updating mattresses, heating units, landscaping, upgrade indoor pool, new business center and will continue to do so.

Glad the hotel was good for you. We do interact with all our guests as well as walk the property. A new fence is going in to give us a courtyard feel. Very exciting

The OK...bed was surprisingly comfortable, breakfast was not bad, river walk location good for morning walks. The disappointments....stayed 4 nights and the room was never made up...room key failed me 5 times....grounds of hotel very unattractive, room ran out of toilet paper and I had to go ask for some, parents down the way had to ask for a hair dryer as their room had none, no gym. If you need to stay in Fortuna CA I suggest the very nice Comfort Inn, Best Western or Super 8..... All are right next door. last time I let Orbitz suggest a hotel.

It appears there may have been some confusion with your DND sign hanging on the door. We are making cards to advise guests to give us a call to let us know a good time to service the room when the DND sign is on the door. We partnered with a gym about a mile away that offers all the amenities for a great workout. Your parents called for the hair dryer and the received one.

The owner and Hotel Steward are very active in the day-to-day happenings at The Redwood. We offered to move you and you chose not to move. Your money was refunded and your reservation was made through Orbitz so you are to be refunded from Orbitz and your bank needs to process as well. We have ample parking for all the rooms. The refrigerator could have been unplugged as well.

showing its age, but not too bad

Well glad you enjoyed the room. We are an exterior corridor property so we do have hallways... I personally don't think they are "sketchy". They are lit and maintained. We are always working to upgrade the property and rooms.
