Ants in room. Water on floor in gym. Need more cleaning staff to keep up. Food was ok but front desk was understaffed and very busy all the time. Just overall not impressed. No apologies when you report and issue and of course the increased rate this weekend would make you expect a better hotel.
Upon arrival, the room was smelly, like cigarettes, Upon arrival, the room was smelly, like cigarettes, there was someone else’s trash in the can and odd equipment on the vanity, square blue electrical object. Called front desk and they offered another room. Once in second room I ran the air and fell asleep briefly after an early flight. Woke to a stuffy, stale, HOT room and a headache. Called front desk again. They offered to move me. Stated they were aware of problem but thought it was fixed. Stayed overnight in third room, was exhausted. Next night I felt, for the second time, something on sheets. Took a closer look to my HORROR, there were bugs! Black bugs with antennas and legs. I called front desk several times to no avail. I had to go down. The front desk person came to my room and hand picked ALL of the bugs off the bed and dropped them on the floor. Then insisted they weren’t bed bugs, they may have been bugs, she agreed, but not bed bugs. UNBELIEVABLE! Back at front desk, she phoned her manager who offered that I switch rooms again and they will get the exterminator out but not until the weekend is over on Monday. UNACCEPTABLE. I definitely am leaving this hotel. On my way out, with my luggage in hand, the front desk person asked if I were checking out or else I’d be charged another night. It was obvious that I was leaving, but this added insult to injury since she knew I was leaving because she was made a point to tell me I would still be charged for this night! Mind you, at no time was I able to speak to a manager. I was told she was home, taking a shower. Front person repeatedly emphasized that the manager was still trying to complete her shower, some 30 minutes later. As if I were inconveniencing her. I had to find another hotel for the rest of my stay. It’s late at night, I’m traveling alone and do not know this area. Just an overall AWFUL experience. When I finally got through to national customer service, they called the hotel who again refused a refund to me, stating it was after 12:00 AM. Well this all started prior to then. I have time stamped photos and video to prove it but REALLY, is that even necessary? The national customer service offered me points, which I declined. I would never stay at a Comfort Suites again - not after this experience and treatment. And worst of all the attitude of indifference from the front desk and management. They should have been apologetic and allowed me a refund since I no longer felt comfortable there. Especially since I had to pay for another hotel somewhere else.
Overall great stay at this hotel. Had a 2 queen bed suite for my family of 6. Plenty of room and 2 tvs so the kids had their own area to watch their shows. Had room 301. It overlooks the parking lot and highly recommend it for anyone that's wants to keep an eye on their vehicle at night. The area seemed safe. A lot people that were staying here were towing boats to Shelbyville so everyone seemed to keep an eye on each other's stuff. Breakfast was good and well stocked. The staff was right on top of anything that was running low. Only complaint is that the ice machines never seemed to have much ice in them. Pool and hot tub were nice and well maintained. Close proximity to restaurants and shopping.
Read reviews, sounded good. Well, would stay again if needed. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast good. Only thing would change is the beds were a little to hard for my taste, but all in all would stay again.
We recently took a driving trip from Wisconsin to Florida, staying at Choice Hotels along the way. This happened to be the one I booked with the points I earned, and it was the best hotel we stayed at. The building seemed new. We were welcomed with home made chocolate chip cookies, and because I became a gold member whiile traveling we were offered two free things from their little store. (The little store offers soft drinks, water, tv dinners and snack items for sale.) We had a king suite, which was very spacious. There was one feature I really liked about the bathroom: The light stayed on after you shut it off on low wattage, so you could find the bathroom in the middle of the night. Genious. Every hotel should have this. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic! Lots of choices! The hotel is located across the parking lot from a Steak & Shake.
We stayed here 2 nights for a family wedding. Would return if in the area again. Easy access from the highway. The rates were reasonable. The staff was friendly and professional. The rooms are large, have good beds and lots of amenities. Breakfast includes many hot and cold items. Sometimes there are freshly baked cookies out. The only complaint was the fitness room. It needs improvement. The machines need to be maintained (much) better.
Coming into this property we were greeted by the desk clerk (Kirsten?) in a very friendly manner. We discuss our room reservation and were assured that we would have a very nice room for the night. She was correct in every aspect of our stay from the large clean and comfortable room, to the great bed and fine appointments. One thing did detract from our stay, though through no fault of the management, a snow plow was busy very early in the morning due to the snowfall during the night. Mentioned this to the desk clerk in the morning and he apologized profusely. Not a problem as the rest of the stay was great. Breakfast was just the usual now found wherever one stays.
Every time I stay at Comfort Suites Mattoon IL they exceed my expectations. I was ill during some of this stay and the hotel staff treated me extremely well, brought up yogurt and went out of their way to make me comfortable. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else while in Mattoon.
I reviewed this property two years ago and was very complimentary. However this visit I was not as impressed. First may I say the Front Desk lady was very friendly and welcoming and our check in was pleasant. From there I was not as impressed. First of all, I do not like the layout of the room. There is a sitting area when you first walk in with an L-shape couch and TV but it is kind of dark and cold. The bathroom is in between it and the bedroom. I will talk about the bathroom first. The floor was VERY slick from a cleaning solution, The stool sat very low. Housekeeping came in and dry mopped the floor however the next morning it was slick again. There is no place worse to have a slick floor than a bathroom, The hotel needs to use a different cleaning solution. The bedroom was nice but cramped. The bed was comfy and had very nice bedding. The desk chair was broken. When i sat at the desk, the chair was so low my knees almost touched the floor. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast, The eggs, bacon, gravy, and coffee were not hot, in fact barely warm. We travel to Mattoon once a year. We will not stay at this hotel again.
We were made to feel at home right away. All staff was friendly and helpful. I want to specially acknowledge Ms Alice and Diana. They were keeping the breakfast stocked and were SO great. Hotel was clean and we really enjoyed the pool and hot tub.
