We only consider properties with consistently high ratings across many reviews, which is why we chose this Dallas rental. It came nowhere near those ratings, and I wonder whether the reviews were genuine. The one positive: the owners accommodated an early check-in (one hour) and a late check-out (two hours). That's it.The property lacked basic amenities every other vacation rental we've used has provided:* Bathrooms: no bath mats, no shampoo or body wash, no working outlets in the master bath, only 6 bath towels (2 used as mats), 2 hand towels, and nowhere to hang towels. The second bath's shower curtain had a pink/red bacterial film, a possible health hazard.* Bedrooms: stained mattress, pillows, and mattress pads; no mattress pad on the master bed; too few pillows (king pillows but no cases); one nightstand in the master; no lamp in the third bedroom.* Kitchen: ten coffee mugs but no drinking glasses, only five dinner plates, and too little flatware for four people.* Laundry: no detergent or dryer sheets.* Other: weak A/C that couldn't cool the house on 100-degree days, floors so dirty white socks turned brown, an unlocked side door on arrival, and a missing smoke detector in the main living area. Finally, the refundable damage deposit, collected a month before our stay, took weeks to be returned.Overall, this was an unacceptable experience, far below what we expect from a vacation rental.
