Inkwell Suite at Spofford Lodge
This historical building was originally built and operated as a school in the early 1900's. The Freemasons took ownership of it in the 60's and in late 2022, we purchased it to give it a new lease on life. Lovingly restored from the ground up, we have taken what we believe are the original school rooms on the second floor and transformed them into luxury suites, catering to guests that want to enjoy where they rest and sleep as much as they are enjoying exploring the mid-coast of Maine. The property is a lovingly restored large brick building with a grand shared entrance. Guests will need to climb a large flight of stairs with their luggage to the suites as they are all on the second floor. On the second floor there are 3 generous suites, all available to rent as vacation rentals. They are all uniquely decorated and completely renovated. As well as the entrance hall, there are 2 communal large hallway spaces where you may see other guests and a laundry room with a washer, dryer and ironing facilities that all guests are welcome to use. The property is sadly not suited to children or individuals with mobility issues. Guests are welcome to store luggage in the entrance hall downstairs if they have a late arrival or early departure to avoid disturbing other guests. Once up the stairs there are two large hallways and a laundry room that all guests are welcome to use, though we ask that everyone is considerate of noise disturbances for other guests who may be resting. Each suite has an individual key for use during their stay. We recommend locking your suite door when inside and when out for the day. You are welcome to leave your door key on the property if you do not feel comfortable taking it with you. Let us know if this is the case and we will tell you where to put it. We will always respond via the inbox as soon as possible. We do live onsite but work from home so prefer not to be disturbed in person, but you may see us coming and going and we are always happy to chat or come and assist if there is an issue with your suite. We do retire early so any messages received after 9pm will be responded to the next day. Bucksport, Maine is a very peaceful town right on the Penobscot river. Our property is one block away from the waterfront with its walkway, perfect for ambling along and enjoying unparalleled views of The Penosbcot Narrows Bridge and Fort Knox. Lobster boat tours can take you out on the water, you can stand in line for the local famous ice cream take out window, grab a glass of wine in a secret little courtyard bar, buy coffee and books at the local bookstore or take in a movie, all just steps away from the property. Bucksport is also an incredible central location for exploring Mid-coast Maine with Belfast, Bangor and Ellsworth all around 25 minutes drive, and with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park just 35 minutes away. An easy commute to a bustling area with respite at the end of your day of exploring the rugged coast and picture perfect towns. Perfect end to a long day!
I came to look for a home in the area. After enjoying coastal Maine all day the bath was sublime. Read the guest info book from the hosts, it’s fabulous! I loved every creak of wood!

Superb
I loved this place! The owners were also very attentive and helpful and available. The bed was super comfortable and the coffee maker was pretty epic. Also, the bathroom was very nice as well. I left something in the room and they were very easy to work with in getting it mailed back to me.

Best Place!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. My favorite part was the coffee maker, no the bed, no the coffee. Just kidding. Everything was beautiful and clean. The host was helpful and so nice when I left my kindle there, she is sending it back to me.

It was such a pleasure to stay here. Our room was so comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the soaking tub!
The town is walkable and there is lots to do in surrounding areas.
Would definitely stay here again and maybe try another room as they are all different!

Best anniversary getaway
We absolutely loved our stay and already want to block out dates to come back. We only stayed for one night but immediately wished we could stay longer after we saw how beautiful and comfortable our room was. The hosts thought of so many little details that made our stay feel extra special. We now want the same coffee machine and have the blueprint for our dream bathroom 😆 100/10 stay.

Lovely Bucksport
This is THE place to stay in Bucksport. The room was delightful & so relaxing. It was just what we needed to start our stay in Maine.
Down East day trip locale perfected! Bring your whole family and rent all three suites. The hosts have accomplished absolute magic in their herculean efforts to make this building a draw for the town. They succeeded wildly, with only a few new-lodging quirks to work out. The design is just enough, with subtle details somehow receding into the character of the moment rather than feeling obvious and cliché. We have been waiting for years to see what might be accomplished here, with not high hopes. We jumped to stay here for eclipse weekend and couldn't have been happier. Stay here if you want authenticity and history with your amenities. You get heated bathroom floors, real espresso, a sturdy foam bed, and a hot simple rain shower with hand unit too. The hosts are available but not in your face, and as communicative as you need them to be. Unless you're someone who despises old buildings with a few creaks, you'll likely love staying in any one of the three suites, each with such different character. The Tesla destination charger worked well after I figured out that I needed to just plug it in and enter the last four digits of the serial number on the side of the unit to get it going. You don't need a Tesla adapter for J-1772; it's built in. I would stay here for the reliable charging alone. All the other details make it one of the most enjoyable short-term rental places that I have ever stayed in, even after traversing the U.S. and Canada in an electric vehicle last fall.
