8/10 Good

A low-key, beach cabin/bungalow that was probably built in the 50s, or earlier, served u well. Two bedrooms, one bath, lots of room in the living room and kitchen, beyond the little back yard with picnic table and firepit, the endlessly rolling breakers. Great weather, great sunsets, great privacy, and the owners had done some remodeling to revive a tired interior – wood plank ceiling, solid wood beams, wood trim and window casings, the windows themselves, walls repainted, bathroom fixtures, custom shower stall – all looked good and contributed to a warm atmosphere. The price was beyond reasonable, also the cleaning fee. And the location was the real star here, a private path to a lovely beach with expansive sand, tide pools hosting little crabs and only a few distant humans and dogs in view. Having praised the cabin named Dulcinea, Don Quixote's conception of the perfect woman, we'll have to point out that truth in advertising the place let us down in two areas. The first was under Popular Amenities – Fireplace – and in the property description mentioned as "toasty wood stove." Yes, there are the remains of a fireplace, the firebox is walled off and behind the screen is not a wood stove but an electric heater. Big disappointment. The second let down was "Gas grill for cookouts." When was the last time the owners removed to grill cover and lifted the hood? We did and the grease and rust and spillover were appalling and made the grill unusable. So four stars instead of 5.
