Nice place but seems still in progress… not for people with disabilities as beds are either in basement or upstairs… pull out couch is located in room with no AC…. Overall convenient location across Gallaudet University, purpose of our visit.

Location was great, just the parking was not so. Hard to find a parking spot in the evening. Home was clean and comfortable for the time we were there.

Disappointed

At first we were very happy with this unique town home. Everything looked like in the pictures and it looked clean. First night we had no water pressure in basement shower and after numerous messages and calls about when the handy man could come. There was never a handy man that came and water pressure issue never got resolved so that shower was unable to be used at all which was very inconvenient. There was also a musty smell in basement and flies. The second and even bigger issue was RODENTS in one of the upstairs bedrooms that dug through our trash can during the night and a mouse also found in the basement room JUMPING out of my backpack which was placed on a chair by the head of my bed. I could not sleep that night after hearing it scratching to get out and seeing it jump out by my hands as I investigated what the noise was about 3am. We had to get a hotel room for the rest of our trip which was a huge inconvenience and cost a lot.The host was very responsive to my messages and very apologetic but unfortunately nothing was fixed to make the place liveable. I am still waiting on the refund promised after numerous messages/calls through customer service and directly to the host. Very disappointed in our stay and how much extra money was spent to get another hotel and replace our snacks, as well as extra money spent on uber and wasted time/missed schedule tour because we had to relocate Not to mention the stress over it all for me and the kids. :( Also no microwave there!

Trinidad

The neighborhood was diverse, quiet, pleasant to walk with many restaurants nearby. We visited the National Zoo and several museums. The house has a unique decor. All beds were very comfortable as were the living room couches. A microwave would be a helpful addition and the downstairs shower needs better water pressure.

owner stays in communication

Overall, our stay was great. We did have a couple of problems. First, there wasn't hand towels for one bathroom or sheets for the fold-out couch but they responded quickly. They even provided the things within a few hours. Secondly, there was only 3 forks, 2 spoons and 1 knife but again they responded and provided quickly. Next, there was only a trickle of hot water in the basement shower and the curtain rod was broken beyond use. They said they were sending over a handyman but never saw one and we we're able to shower in that bathroom. Finally, I saw a mouse on the kitchen counter and it did get into some food that was sitting out. On a positive note, I was impressed with the communication and attention to my texts. The place was clean and everything else was fine. Thank you for sharing your place with us.

Engages, Responsive host

The house is super fun and spacious and the location is great. Love the NoMa neighborhood and there are amazing sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and bus routes to the Metro station and shopping/dining. While the house is older and has some quirks like squeaky floors and confusing light switches, the hot water stays warm and the neighborhood is great.

Charming and artistic

My husband and I traveled to DC with 4 teens and stayed at this house. The house was in an older neighborhood that seemed to be going through a revitalization process. There were many people out walking their dogs and talking with each other, which brings a good sense of community. We are from a rural area but have also lived in large cities so it only took a short time to get ourselves settled. The house must be owned by an artist because everywhere we looked there was some piece of art, a quirky and fun pop of color, or just something unexpected and cool, without anything being formal or too fussy. The beds were comfortable enough and the kitchen had all the necessities for our large family. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the house overall because we were sightseeing with our foreign exchange student as much as possible. The house was conveniently located for the places we wanted to see.

More shabby than shabby chic

Pros about the property: Thorough communication with the host, neighborhood was good with great walkable restaurants, and we had plenty of living space and bedrooms to spread out it in the home. I also love eclectic decor and liked the exposed brick and plaster. Negatives about the property: It felt like staying in an old college house, where the landlord did a sloppy job with a renovation. The house is going for shabby chic and instead it feels shabby because they didn’t finish off simple things like drywall, removing old nails, and completing a decent paint job. The house has potential to be amazing - but work is needed to get it there.

Large old home

We loved the vibe of the open concept main floor and the neighbourhood was quite eclectic. The house was close to shopping, restaurants and a short Uber ride to the Capitol area. The house was large enough for 3 couples and we enjoyed the ability to make our own meals. Unfortunately, we visited during a heat wave and the central air conditioning in the house does not extend to the second floor. There is a window unit in one bedroom upstairs but the other two rooms only had fans. Because the air outside was stifling, opening the windows didn't help either. And, the neighbourhood was noisy enough that having a window open at night was disruptive. The beautiful upper deck couldn't be used as it was like a sauna out there. The second night we were there, the central air conditioning broke down. The property manger did not have it fixed before we left so we were 3 nights and 2 1/2 days without a/c in the house except for one bedroom upstairs. We even tried troubleshooting the problem ourselves including a trip to Home Depot to replace fuses. The management company did provide us with a small rebate but it took 17 days of repeatedly inquiring for that to happen.

Not as expected

The property needs work before renting again. Lights cord ran from ceiling to extension cord on table looked horrible and unsafe. Multiple other obvious electrical issues. Smell of mold. Spiders everywhere, very visible rodent traps. Soiled rugs, hair in beds, random change laying around. No air upstairs, other than small plug in fans. Bad paint job, worn down steps, horrible flooring job, crowded furniture, unsafe sitting area outside, damaged walls, damaged sheet rock. A complete mess.

Cool house, great location for us. Very comfortable.

Hosts are fantastic. Loved that the check out is so easy. While we do clean up after ourselves, there was not a big checklist. The hosts are more focused on their guests having a wonderful stay than specific rules on what to do with linens and dishes. No stress departure! We had a great weekend.

Great DC hideaway!

Location and parking weren't bad. We drove and got a VPP and didn't have any issues parking. It was so nice to have so much room rather than a hotel for the kids to come take a breather at. I really appreciated the easy and quick communication with the property manager and check-in and check-out were literally effortless. Would definitely book again.
