Sassafras Treehouse

Tucked away on Lookout Mountain, the Sassafras Treehouse feels like a private retreat in the trees—designed for slowing down, breathing deeper, and watching the sun rise over the mountains in complete quiet.Set on 18 acres of forest shaped by boulders, mountain laurel, and sassafras trees, the treehouse blends beautifully into its natural surroundings. Built with intention and character, it features reclaimed materials throughout—heart pine floors, salvaged wood from a furniture store over 100 years old, and architectural elements with their own history. Thoughtful details like an antique Dutch door from Asheville and barn-style accents add warmth and a sense of timeless charm.Like any treehouse, the structure may gently sway in higher winds. It was built from a treehouse masters plan and includes additional bracing for stability. Inside, the space is cozy and thoughtfully equipped. A queen bed is tucked into the loft, and the bathroom feels like a small spa with its oversized soaking tub. The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, single-burner cooktop, and convection microwave—perfect for simple meals during your stay. Outdoors, guests can also enjoy a charcoal grill and pizza oven for a more elevated cooking experience. A record player is provided as well—just bring your own vinyl records and enjoy music as you unwind.Coffee is part of the ritual here, with a drip coffee setup, French press, and provided coffee essentials to support slow mornings.

Outside, experience a hot tub under the open sky, an outdoor shower along the mountainside, a firepit for long evenings, and a relaxing bed swing. The absence of a TV is intentional—inviting you to unplug without feeling like anything is missing.Wildlife often passes through the property, and it’s not uncommon to spot deer or two. There are also yurts on the next door but are not managed by us, they can be a convenient option for additional guests who want to stay nearby. More information can be provided upon request.

Please note: Because weather can be unpredictable, travel insurance is strongly recommended for added peace of mind in case of illness, severe weather, or unexpected travel disruptions. The treehouse is designed for two guests only. Guests must be 21 or older to check in, and the space is not suitable for children under 12. To preserve the peaceful atmosphere, pets, indoor smoking, parties, and events are not allowed. Two vehicles are permitted per stay, and all overnight guests must be included in the reservation.

When you do choose to venture out, you are close to Cloudland Canyon State Park, about 16 miles from Rock City Gardens, and 20 miles from downtown Chattanooga—but lots of guests find themselves staying put once they arrive.Ultimately, it’s a space designed for two: private, quiet, and just far enough removed from everything to feel like its own world.
The vacation home is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and a balcony, and there's space to spread out with a separate bedroom. Other standard amenities include a coffee maker and an ironing board.

This place was so dreamy. We spent our 10 year wedding anniversary just focused on us and enjoying each other. We loved making pizza in the pizza oven. The pot of fresh basil and oregano beside the oven was a nice touch! So yummy! We had a bonfire and ate cheesecake over looking the view. We relaxed with a cocktail on the bed swing and then finished the night in the hot tub! It was slightly raining and was just such an amazing atmosphere. Waking up to the sound of soft rain in the treehouse was so peaceful! We could have slept fr hours! Every aspect of this place was well thought out fr the best experience. We haven’t stopped talking about it with our friends. Cannot wait to come back again! Thank you for a wonderful time!
