I would not recommend Bayside Hotel in Mackinaw City. The property is advertised as “renovated,” but in reality, it only looks like they put in new beds and added a coat of paint. Beyond that, there are cracks everywhere, and the building has a very run-down feel. The room also smelled strongly of smoke, which was very unpleasant. The owners operate several hotels in Mackinaw City, and unfortunately, it seems they all suffer from the same lack of upkeep. This place is no exception—it feels neglected and poorly managed. Overall, I would not stay here again. There are plenty of better options in the area for the same or even less money.

This place is very convenient for the ferry dock to Mackinac island. Our room was clean but a little small and the bed wasn’t comfortable. We like the water park access to the next door hotel. We didn’t like that it says with breakfast when booking at expedia but there is really no breakfast at this hotel. We were given a coupon for buy one get one breakfast at a nearby restaurant with limited options and overpriced food. We didn’t use the coupon and went somewhere else.

Fair for the price

It was a fair hotel in Mackinac. Bathroom had obvious signs of water damage and mold along with the fan not working. Blankets on the bed had many rips in them. Waterpark is in decent working condition compared to other ones in the area. It was actually decently quiet at night, didn’t really hear anyone else. It’s fine if all you’re doing is sleeping there. Would stay again, just don’t have high expectations for it.

Our room smelled like urine and the carpets were stained. TV didnt work. Got up early for someone to fix it and they never showed. It was unreal all the people switching rooms because of ants or something else. The marque says new spa, it doesnt work. The outdoor pool was so dirty you couldnt see the bottom. It was awful. .shoshowed. We cleaned our roo.

Conveniently located & Kid friendly. We enjoyed included waterpark. Staff is friendly. My only complaint is with the breakfast coupons they give to guests. They got rid of the included breakfast during COVID, and now offer “buy one get one free” coupons to two of the neighboring restaurants. At toast a go go breakfast buffet, children are not included with the promotion. So if you are going with an adult and child, you still pay the full price for both. At the lighthouse restaurant, it is only one coupon per table. So if you have four adults staying in one room, you will end up paying for three adult meals and getting 1 free. Or, if you have multiple people in multiple rooms and wish to be seated at the same table, the same rule will apply. This was not listed on the coupon itself, at the restaurant, or on the menu. I ended up going to the lighthouse restaurant for breakfast and sat separate from my adult friends who were roomed separately and paying separately to avoid this. When the server provided me with the bill, she asked “are you paying with cash or card?”, I paid with card. My friends paid cash and we left, only to then be chased out of the restaurant for “not paying” as this restaurant “does not accept cash” (direct quote from the server). Smells of discrimination. Posting to spread awareness - the hotel itself was great, but I would have much rather dined elsewhere than the 2 restaurants they were promoting.

Didnt like we had to walk to a different motel property for pool & jacuzzi use. Jacuzzi water was cold. Water was green. When we told the front desk she said they have nothing to do with the pool. She said its a seperate property they just let us use it. Sheets on our beds were flat sheets not fitted. They didnt cover the mattress. When I pulled to cover the end of bed then the matress at head of bed was uncovered. When we left to checkout this morning the office area was closed. So we just left. The room itself was not too bad. There were some stray hairs in the shower and sink that didnt belong to us. But that happens. Guess the worse part was the outdoorJacuzzi and pool.
