The stay could have been better if the staff had explained everything more clearly and didn’t have an attitude when we asked questions. Also, our room had no view of the ocean or the pool, which was very disappointing.

What is good: the staff are friendly and the hotel is conveniently located next to the airport, you can watch planes landing and take off all day at Maho beach. Not so good: the food is not great, the hotel is dated in need of nenovation, the beds are not comfortable (at least my room),stations are minimally staff so waiting for a burguer, a hot dog, etc., I don’t drink much but the options were not that good either. Conclusion: food in the island is expensive, if you are on a budget or want to minimize spending this may be a good option though the food option will not wow you. Getting a car is recommended if you like to explore, taxis are expensive and other than the airport there is not a lot close by. The buffet at the end became a good option for ok meals, we did not like the italian restaurant, the asian always had a long wait time, we gave up on it. The Mexican was ok, we went once and did not come back. The hotel can also use more entertainment through out the day and at night. I must say that the shows that were offered were good.

This is our second time staying at Sonesta Maho. We have had wonderful experience each time. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food was good and there were multiple choices for restaurants. Rooms were clean.

Beautiful resort with beautiful views. The resort partners with a cat rescue so there were random cats roaming tge property even in dining areas. I didn't like that. Also, no room service available.

You definitely get what you pay for here. You may turn an eye to the facilities but 60% of staff were miserable to be working or servicing. The buffet had the worst with a few wait staff being rude or completely forgetting to bring you even water. That coffee shop, don’t ask for anything they look at you like why are u ordering anything. food is very sub par but I guess expected with all inclusive. We ate out several times. Rooms need extensive facelifts, they smell musty. The amount of dust on that phone/clock was gross. There’s no beach here, you must climb rocks and steps to get in the water. We spent a few days at a beach club for extra fees. Got food poisoning after having lunch at buffet. The beach towels is so uncomfortable you’re defending why you might need 1 more towel. Weather was fantastic, mullet beach was great. Will not come back here again.

My room did not get cleaned until late in the afternoon. I didn't think the food in the Mexican and Asian restaurants was good. The Italian was good. Also the Asian restaurant was closed 2 nights in a row. Why? The staff was very friendly.

Overall, great stay! The majority of staff were very friendly and welcoming. The pool area was fantastic and they had some sort of entertainment there most of the day. We appreciated the availability of canned beer and bottled water. The food was pretty good, although the restaurants aren’t open all days of the week, so that was tricky to figure out at first. The beach was nothing like advertised. I wouldn’t even consider it a beach. It’s a cliff and you have to climb over boulders and through splashing waves to get to Mahó Beach (or walk on the street). There also is no beach volleyball as advertised. They wouldn’t even allow us to borrow one. My kids didn’t want to go to kids’ club because it’s mostly geared towards very young kids, not 12 year olds. They should maybe have a 1-5, 6-12 kids club or allow older kids to visit the teen club. There was also a kids’ club staff member who embarrassed my kid for having slightly damp shorts. Like I said, it was overall a good place to stay. I would go back, but other guests should know that expectations might not meet reality.

We checked in on feb 7. . That night we had a huge cockroach in our room which we immediately complained about. That night we received a phone call that our daughter had suffered a stroke so had to immediately book a return flight. While packing our bags there was another cockroach by our luggage which we also complained about. We requested a refund or voucher for future travel because of our situation and was told by the manager that she would do that for us. Now she tells us that she cannot help us that it would be up to Expedia to refund us or give us a voucher. We also did not have hot water and neither did the other party that we traveled with. They remained there and the hot water problem was never addressed. We were extremely disappointed in how we were treated.
