We have stayed at a variety of hotels in Tuscaloosa, but are most loyal to Marriott branded hotels. Of the three Marriott choices in Tuscaloosa, this is hands-down the friendliest. Yes, it’s ‘just’ a Fairfield, so the rooms are smaller than the other choices, but the staff stands out. The breakfast/seating area is tiny, but it passes. Indoor swimming pool is cold. Still the friendliest Marriott property, but without the upscale atmosphere of the others.
Thank you for making our stay in Alabama perfect!! Y’all are the kindest people we have come across and we will definitely recommend y’all!! Thank you to Annie Gibson Breakfast assistant for helping us make the perfect waffles!!
I stayed just for 1 night and woke up at 4am for a 10 hour drive. I went down to front desk, and the gentleman was very nice and went to kitchen and heated up breakfast and gave me fresh coffee after I told him I would be driving for 10 hours. Ask for rooms not facing the highway, it can get noisy at night time.
I travel a great deal and with that, I have a plethora of experiences with hotel staff. So in my recent visit to this property it was utterly refreshing to meet Deanna at the desk. But for her I have a new home and friend in Tuscaloosa. If you visit this hotel ask for Deanna and know she will make your stay a pleasant one.
Stay here for 3 nights while visiting 3 local hospitals as part of my job. I was immediately thanks for being a Platinum member and my room with a King. The only negative I have is that Marriott staff at the lower tier properties (Fairfield or Town Place) don't seem to get what it means to maintain Platinum status. It means every year you stay at a Marriott property over 100 nights, a third of a year in most cases. That being said, my room was front side, one door from the elevator. Ding Ding. I am sure Ding Ding if I wasn't too tired to ask for a change Ding Ding it would have been granted. Here is a suggestion, reward and recognize a Platinum Road Warrior with a room on your quietest side, away from the elevator. The hotel looked to be well maintained, breakfast area was clean and well stocked. All staff were courteous and attentive
We stayed two nights while visiting at the university. The beds are double beds so be prepared to sleep closely if you're sharing one! The room was clean and quiet even though we were put amongst a group sports team. The breakfast options are good with both hot and cold options. The breakfast room is small but we had no trouble finding a seat. It's a good place to stay if you like a place that is not fancy but clean and mostly comfortable.
I recently had to go to Tuscaloosa for a funeral and needed a place to stay close to family and the Fairfield Inn fit the bill. The staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating. Their free breakfast came with many options, eggs, sausage, waffles, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, etc. My room was clean and spacious. We asked for extra blankets and towels and they delivered them in less than 5 minutes. Can't beat that! All in all despite the circumstances, the hotel was great and so was the staff. I'd definitely stay there again.
Maybe it was me, but somehow this property fell short of the high Marriott standard. It was clean. It was seemingly well maintained, but somehow there was something less than satisfying about the stay. The bathroom counter was way too low and had some sort of wear to it just under the surface. There was a strange, damp like feeling to the room. Maybe it was the humidity and that the A/C was turned all the way up when we entered. It was an older A/C unit with a dial range between "Heat" and "Cold". You had to guess where the comfortable setting was. The staff was very nice. The breakfast was OK. The eating area was clean but maybe a bit crowded. That's just a function of the age of the property. It was built before free breakfasts became the norm. No other real problems. Just something was missing.
In town for a couple of days on business - my stay at Fairfield Inn was pleasant and comfortable. The staff were consistently helpful and gracious. Rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was ok - nothing special, but allowed you to avoid a trip out to a fast food place. The hotel is located in a convenient area.
Due to renovation of an indoor pool at another hotel, we quickly booked a room at this Fairfield. Upon first use, the bathroom toilet clogged. When we called for maintenance, we were brought a plunger in a plastic bag to take care of the problem ourselves. What?! While my husband worked on the toilet, I took the children to swim. (A pool on spring break vacation was supposed to be a highlight for these land-locked-born children.) The pool was so cold they would not go in past knee-deep no matter how much I coaxed or pleaded. Then I realized I had read a review on Trip Advisor when we had planned our trip that had mentioned an ice cold pool. We made the decision to check-out without staying the evening. After check-out, my husband asked to speak with the manager. In the hotel's defense, they refunded the night's stay and added points to his account. But, we would not stay at this hotel again and we would think carefully before staying at another in a different city.
