We needed a place to stay for the USATF Junior Olympics in Lawrence KS. This was one of the few hotels in the area for a reasonable price. It was more than adequate and quite a nice hotel. The staff would have been a 5 except for a restaurant hostess/waitress. The restaurant closes at 10pm and he got there at 9:30pm. When we asked for a table, she rolled her eyes and gave a sigh acting as if we were an inconvenience. She must have had a bad day. Would have been nice if she could treat her customers with a bit more humility. Other than that most staff were very nice.

The staff was nice and helpful but the hotel noisey. The pillows were very uncomfortable.

This was a wonderful hotel, clean and kept up very well. I would have liked a small refrigerator/microwave in the room, many of the high end hotels that I stay at are adding that feature, usually inside a cabinet of some kind in keeping with the room décor. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is very conveniently located to the Kansas Expo Center, so I didn't have to worry about driving. Room was clean and staff was friendly. Very nice workout center that I wish I had been able to use more. It was nice having a bar in the lobby to unwind and the bartender was great. My only complaint was the restaurant. Understaffed and food was overpriced for the quality.

We have stayed there before. This time we stayed 7 on the floor facing the back apparently we were over the exhaust vents from the kitchen. We were there over the holidays so most part kitchen was closed. Sunday when they cooked for the brunch all of the oders were in our room.

I had a few minor dramas, and the hotel manager and staff went way out of their way to save me from each situation. They are just kind and considerate, and the place is run beautifully. And the food is good.

This is our second trip to this hotel. I enjoyed having a sofa in the room.

nice facility good sunday brunch go early fills up fast.

Was not assigned the room per the reservation. King bed w/ internet and desk was reserved. Was assigned a double bed room

We attended a KU football game and felt the distance to Lawrence was convenient and the price was outstanding. We had[...] requested a non-smoking room, and Capital Plaza did not have any non-smoking rooms available with two double beds when we arrived. They offered us a King-size bed, but that was not acceptable as I was traveling with my daughter. They used an ozone machine to help with eliminating the smell, however, the adjoining rooms smoke eventually got to us.

I liked the rooms and the closeness to the expo center. The bed was heavenly.

have stayed here numerous times. love staying here. had a minor plumbing problem and it was fixed immediately. Awesome.

Staff was friendly and helpful with directions. Overnight stay included a breakfast buffet. Pool and jacuzzi a plus. Rooms were super clean and modern. Decor and style made it cozy. Hotel close to the I-70 highway.

While we did not utilize the hotels amenities during our stay we, nonetheless, found the Capital Plaza Hotel to be a first class hotel at a great price. The hotel is away from major restaurants and shopping centers but considering the size of the city these locations are only a short drive away and was conveniently located near the friends we were visiting.

Very disappointing weekend. When we checked in all seemed fine. We got to our room and it was a smoking room with two double beds. I had a confirmation for a non-smoking room and a king sized bed (my husband is 6'4"). When I asked them to correct the mistake they told me that my requests for a non-smoking/king was only a request and it didn't matter that I had my confirmation number and the reservation details in writing. So, obviously the Capitol Plaza Hotel sold our room to someone else who probably paid a higher price. Very frustrating having to find another place to stay at 8pm on Saturday night when we were involved with a weekend event at the Expo Center.

my wife and i loved it

We had to go to the restaurant to flag down someone so that we could check in. The stay was pleasant, but we had to wait for someone to get to the desk to check out also. We made the mistake of going to the hotel restaurant for lunch one day for something quick, and got out of there almost 2 hours later, which was very frustrating as we were one of only 3 tables with customers. It appeared that they had a large conference order that they were getting ready for. It took over an hour to get our mediocre food after we order, then another 20 minutes to flag someone down to bring our check. As far as I can tell, this is one of the better places to stay in Topeka, but in a larger town, it would not last a week.

The hotel itself was very inviting, the staff was very professional and the entrance and lobby was very relaxing and very clean; however, the only complaint that I have is for the money that was spent, the hotel room was very, very uncomfortable because there was no thermastat in the room. It was hot and rainy the day that I stayed there and the hotel did not have the airconditiong on, so there was no way to even get air circulating in the room.
