A lovely museum piece with excellent staff. Locals tell me it's haunted. Lots of history so I'm critical of these who complain the rooms are dated. Brown wood furniture and brass light switches. Gardens could be better.
Stayed for 3 nights, would return for sure! We booked for garden terrace room and upgraded to executive suite, thanks! The check in was fast, room is spacious, room service was tasty, deli for dessert and danish was great, the pub was great place to hang out (even if i went alone) and they have friendly bartender, breakfast spread was great and filling, the staffs were all friendly and polite, check out was fast too. Great stay!
Nice room with beautiful bathroom and comfortabel bed. The hotel is a little dated. Sofitel bought this hotel in januari 2017. So hopefully they will give the hotel an upgrade. Breakfast is very good with lots of choices. Diner is ok. Pizza's are very good. The restaurant is not looking attractive. The spa is very good. Compliments to our waitress Rina. She is very nice. She explaine in the morning how to make Javanese breakfast with black rice coconut. You should drink in the morning the Jamu. Healthy and delicious.
We stayed 2 nights at Majapahit. The hotel buildings and surroundings are really beautiful. The staff are friendly and the pool area is really nice. The hotel is very clean and the beds are very comfortable. However we were a bit disappointed by the room - the interior was not really nice and also we had a lot of mosquitoes in the room. We sprayed every night but still got a lot of mosquitoes bite during the night. Also the food and transport etc at the hotel is quiet expensive compared to other 5 stars hotel in Java.
My family stayed here during the Eid holiday. We booked two rooms, double and twin next to each other. The hotel was not crowded with tourists and we enjoyed our time there. This was the second time stayed here. We love the Majapahit because we love colonial hotels with history and as a local Surabayan, I have visited this hotels on some occasions. The garden was beautiful and well kept. The pool and spa were great too. The staff was all nice and friendly. I do notice that the hotel needs some maintenance work. Some details in our rooms need improvement. For example, in my double room, there's no standing mirror, whereas the twin room has one. Also the bed side tables were different and one is just not in the style of the hotel. In our rooms, the electric sockets were like the UK/Singapore sockets, not like the one we use in Indonesia so we had to ask for converter. Perhaps better change all of them with universal sockets? We dined at the Indigo restaurant and ordered room service a few times, but we found the food was average but expensive, even the local nasi goreng and mie goreng were bland. The breakfast was OK with decent selections of local and international food. I hope that the management will address those issues soon, otherwise the quality of the hotel will drop and it's really sad to imagine such a beautiful hotel not becoming part of my hometown anymore. Being a fan of this hotel, of course I'd love to stay again here and hopefully things will improve.
Used to be my fav hotel in Surabaya but its public facilities definitely need maintenance; toilet is dirty, sofa fabric in its bar is torn down, TV screen in the lobby is not working, mirrors are spotty. The management should really take care of this gorgeous hotel.
I was looking forward to staying here after having stayed at all the other Sarkie hotels in Yangon, Penang and Singapore. Architecturally I was not disappointed, it's a beautiful building with so much nostalgia, steeped in history as all the other ones. Service is wonderful, staff genuinely helpful, rooms were big and quiet luxurious (please don't expect it to be a Raffles) but I was rather disappointed with food. For a 5 star hotel I thought that F&B was a let down.
The Majapahit experience was excellent. Regret staying for just one day! The breakfast platter is incredibly delicious. I loved the decor of the room especially the furniture which kind of gives a colonial British feel to an Indian! The bathrooms were excellent and what I really loved was after our check in we had gone out for some mall hopping. On coming back we saw out water bottles replenished and toiletries arranged in place! There are plenty of decorated corners for photo enthusiasts!
Nice hotel that seems very grand. Checking in was seamless. We were given welcome drinks. Rooms were posh and nice – they had a balcony overlooking a garden. Bathrooms were spacious and clean – traces of mold were seen around shower area (a big disappointment given price tag of hotel). Business center was accessible – did not pay to print out bookings. About a 3-7 minute walk from the mall.
