My wife and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Seattle Downtown–Lake Union and, unfortunately, had a very unpleasant experience
Upon check-in, we were surprised to see signage about ongoing construction at the property. We were not informed of this at the time of booking. When I raised this concern, your staff member apologized and offered us a room away from the noise. We were initially placed in Room 323, but upon discovering the door lock was broken, we were moved to Room 201
Upon arriving on the second floor, we were immediately hit with a strong paint odor, which continued inside Room 201. I went to get ice, only to find the ice machine not working and the paint fumes intensifying. I returned to the front desk to report the smell, which was making me feel very ill. I was told the odor was throughout the hotel due to construction and that moving to another room would not help.
As the fumes worsened, I began feeling extremely nauseated and faint. I informed your restaurant staff, who kindly offered crackers to help. Eventually, the smell became so unbearable that I had to lie down in the hallway. Trixie from the front desk came to assist us and tried relocating us again—ironically, back to Room 323, which still had a broken lock. At this point, I was so unwell and on the ground we just went in the room to get away from the smell and so I could lie down. My husband felt very uneasy about sleeping in a room with no locks
