I had a bed for one night. Everything was clean and quite. I had a pleasure sleep and good small talk to the other guests. The employees were very friendly. The war to the main station is very short and was perfect for me.
At first, I was intimidated by the fact this hostel has long hallways, since I was afraid it would be noisy at night. That turned out to be false since I did not hear any noise in the middle of the night. The whole place is so airy and open, and the sun shines right through. My room was larger than I expected, and I would have been comfortable spending more than one night there. There's even a TV in the room, and that's unheard of for hostels (at least the ones I've stayed at). Oh, can't beat the location, since it's close to the central station, Flixbus stop, and city center.
I always liked main train station. It his is one of the good one. Great building and very functional. There lots of shops for your convenience and clean. Signs are clear. If you pay attention you will easily find your way. Trains perfectly runs like German trains :)))
This is a fairly big affair, so if you're looking for homey, you might try elsewhere. Very close to train station (which, besides being where you'll probably arrive, has lots of shops), and quite close to the old city. Staff very professional and helpful. Rooms plenty of space. Breakfast good too.
It has been a couple of decades since I lasted backpacked and stayed in a hostel, or slept on a plastic wrapped mattress, but they were never as clean or as pleasant as this. If you are travelling in a large group, school/club tours, or families/couples on a budget, than this is the place for you. We had an ensuite double room and it was very clean. Breakfast is sufficent, cereal, cheeses, cold cuts of meat, yogurt, juices, tea/coffee, bread. Help yourself as much as you like. They will make you a packed lunch if advised and ordered previously as well. There is a kids indoor play area, washing machine/dryer and additional kitchen if needed. The down sides are, there is no fan/air conditioning in the rooms. During our stay it was 35c and the room was HOT. I recommend you request a room at the back of the building. Ours was 1st floor and street side. We could open the window in our room, but we then had 4 lanes of traffic right outside, plus they are building a commercial building over the road. It was too noisy. It is a hostel, it will get noisy at night in the halls, people party on the balcony off the downstairs bar area well into the night. But, it is clean, cheap, super close to the city centre, and even closer to the train station and the multilingual staff are very very helpful and very nice. Our group were more than happy.
The service was kind and good! The rooms were clean, although the water system (hot/cold water) wasn't working properly. The breakfast was perfect. The Bar attention was awesome, nice cocktails, good beer and the guy in charge extremely welcoming!!!
Beautiful prewar building and just near the Hauptbahnhof. Easy walk to the city centre. Friendly staff and fun common room area with sofas and pool tables and a bar. Nice cotton sheets and good location. Easy walk to the Aldtstadt and city centre. The breakfast cost extra however it has a great selection of fleischsalat (meat salad), egg, cheese, bread, cereal, salad, juice, tea and coffee and hot chocolate. All of the a and o hostels have excellent facilities and very clean and feels like new. They almost feel like a hotel. Good common room area with sofas, bar, restaurant and pool table. These hostels are always in a good location near the city centre or near the Hauptbahnhof
We stayed here from 15-16th Feb 2016. The hotel/hostel is just infront of the Leipzig Hauptbahnhoft. It is not noisy. It is within walking distance from the landmarks of Leipzig, and 15 mins driving away from Monument of the Battle of the Nations. The reception area is big with a few chairs and a bar with a pool table. Its dated and not chic but its clean and the receptionists are pelasant. We stayed in room 316 which is a quadruple room. Its quiet when we stayed so we dont know if it can get noisy if the hotel is full. The room is sparsely furnished and was very basic. The beds are ok and the shower is good. Our 13 and 15 year old sons liked the room and its internet. Parking at back, we prepaid. We drove and climbed up Monument of the Battles of the Nations, went out to walk to the city centre landmarks (St Nicholas’s Church, the Old and Newmarket and the Leipzig University etc) and at our dinner at Indian Gate Restaurant. We got home at 2030, slept at 2200. It was a grand day out. We then drove on (we had several destinations all over Germany that week). The hotel suited its purpose for us. Nothing fancy, no luxury. Its cheap, its close to what we want to see. If you travel light and wants a budget place with no high expectation, I would recommend this for you.
We really enjoyed our stay at the A & O Hostel. We traveled with a large group and the lobby was small but clean. I was not traveling with my children, but was still so impressed with the kids' playing area in the lobby and the basement! The reception staff were so friendly and spoke really good English. We deposited some valuables with them during the day and it was easy and seemed totally safe. There is a bar and TV area in the lobby that had some great drink specials although we did not get the chance to take advantage of them. Also bottled water and other drinks available for purchase, but you will be paying more for that convenience. I would recommend buying water at one of the grocery stores in the train station across the street. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms, which were nice. Everything looked like it came from Ikea and was in good condition. The high ceilings gave the room an elegant feel, despite the fact that it was fairly small otherwise. No, the rooms aren't cleaned every day but we were fine with that. The free Wi-Fi is very slow so it might be worth it to pay for Wi-Fi if you need to use it much. Our room was right off the lobby but was not loud at all. We were on the street side which had some traffic noise but earplugs took care of that. The location is great for touring the central part of Leipzig. Our group took a walking tour which was excellent. We were within a 10 minute walk of plenty of great restaurants and shopping. We also did a lot of shopping in the train station which has just about everything you could want! We ate breakfast and one dinner here and everything was really good.
We stayed in the hotel (not in the hostel, which also operates in the same building). The location is great, and that's pretty much the only good thing about the place. Apart from that, there are several things are are simply bad or even horrible. The entire place has a very annoying smell. The noise level from the street is horrible. The reading lamps next to beds are become quickly so hot that you will burn your fingers. There is no closet. You need to personally get clean towels from the reception every day. Daily cleaning consists of removing trash from your room. Breakfast is below average. The lockers (you cannot store baggage with them, they want you to use paid lockers) are too small for suitcases. And then, the staff. My checking-in experience was the worst in my entire life. Horribly hostile, rude people with no concept of any manners. To be fair, there was ONE staff member (a girl with short black hair) that was human. Please see my other reviews, you will see that I rarely write such critical reviews.
