My media club selected the property in Douglas, Michigan for our annual retreat. The property was selected because of the location and amenities. We have been visiting the area for more than thirty years and for the first time experienced accommodations that were much less than expected.
While the location and the size of the property were excellent, the house itself was in disrepair and not prepared for visitors. The furniture and carpet were dirty, the towels seemed thread bare, the hot tub and fire pit area appeared to not have been attended to in a long time.
The most egregious thing about the property was that the furnace did not work. The management company sent out a repair person who reported that the furnace could not be fixed, during our stay, due to the inability for them to obtain a part. Subsequently, we were provided with space heaters by the the management company. While the temperature was not freezing, it was, at times, uncomfortable in the house.
I think it is essential for property owners to inspect their homes to ascertain what needs to be addressed before offering them was viable rental properties. In this instance, it appears as though this was not done.
