BL/UF: Great for the price and location, but don’t expect resort amenities. The building is a gorgeous classic hotel with a beautiful interior courtyard. The rooms are tastefully updated and decently spacious. Just don’t expect miracles from the shower. The “Salt and Whiskey” restaurant had good food, but the highlight was the beverages. For breakfast, though, I’d recommend a walk to 4th and J Street for Achilles. The neighborhood is a good distance away from the highways and walkable to East Village, Petco Park, and the convention center.

Nothing special about this hotel other than its location. No room safe, our room was in a separate building which could be accessed from the street. Our door had obviously been broken into, or at least attempted, and had not been fixed well. Did not feel especially safe, unfortunately. The location can not be beat, though, especially for attending a ball game at Petco.

Very noisy room after I asked for a quiet room. It smells in my room with old building smell. Staff not friendly when we I ask for complimentary water.

We were welcomed by friendly, polite staff who answered our questions. Check in was fast, as well as check out. We received complementary drinks which was nice. The hotel is beautiful and clean. Unfortunately I didn’t get to enjoy too much since we were there for an event. I would definitely book it again if I go back to San Diego. The only minor issue I encountered was the hot water, as it took a while for it to run warm. And unless you are paying valet parking you need to park elsewhere, down the street.

Weekend Ballgame
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay over the weekend while we attended a baseball game. The stadium is a short walk away. We loved the complimentary drink tickets and food discount. Food and drinks were very good. Great location for evening dinner and stroll just out side the front door. We will be back.

Cute, old-fashioned but modern approach to a hotel. Extremely comfortable, lovely greeting on arrival. Convenient parking lot in the next block. Downtown San Diego is always a bit of a trip with so many prostrate people in the streets at night, however, the Horton Grand is located outside most of this, but still easily accessed. Great for the Convention Center, port and Petco Park. Definitely recommended for a comfortable and safe stay.

I really enjoyed staying at this property. The rooms have great wood furniture and the open areas have vintage items as well. Very beautiful building. The middle open courtyard is beautiful and having the balcony to it in the room was wonderful. The area around the property isnt the best, but thats not their fault. Just the nature of the city. It's close to petco park, the water, nightlife, and so many great restaurants.

Was in town to attend baseball games at Petco Park. Great location to walk to Petco and many restaurants in the area. Hotel is historic with beautiful woodwork and molding throughout. The courtyard is very charming and great place to relax with large trees. Bar is small but great staff.

I loved this property. This was my first stay at the Horton Grand Hotel and it was awesome. The room was large and there was a bay window with original stained glass and there was even a working fireplace. We stayed on the top floor and it was very quiet. The valet parking was super easy to get in and out of, although I left my car in parking the entire time as we could walk to everything. I would absolutely stay there again!

I rarely comment about properties; however, I think this was a must for the price. I paid my expenses pre-booking only to find out at the front desk there was an additional fee of 27 dollars. This was explained as a gaslamp location fee. While I have no issue paying the cost, I do have a big issue with transparency and think this should have been stated online through the booking site and not a surprise at the front desk. The site also said breakfast was included but failed to mention you have to pay for it, which again felt like a misrepresentation. There were limited channels, about 24, and almost all were sports, news, and documentaries. Most of the primary entertainment channels were absent, so it had the feel of a very cheap motel but the cost of a high-end one. The room was clean. I'm not too fond of the fact that there was no fridge, although I should have researched this better; I won't say the hotel misrepresented this. Overall, the hotel is in a great location and worth the cost if the Gaslamp is your primary destination. If not, research other hotels. However, the front desk staff (technically 1 lady) seems very uncaring, and there is either a disconnect or misrepresentation of information on the booking website vs. the on-site requirements. I also think the hotel should start listing more information about its channels instead of just saying cable TV is available. This hotel would be great for 120 per night but not 200 per night.
