The beautiful balcony rooms we booked opened into an ugly alley. Both were dirty with stains on one sofa mattress and filthy sheets. No maid service unless a call was made to the front desk - not even the request for maid service on the door worked. Service requests were met with defensive tempers and, in one case, screaming at us. They also required $101 damage deposit for each room - hoping we get that back. I’ll be very careful about booking a hotel through Orbitz in the future. This was awful!!

This is a classy old hotel. Beautiful woodwork everywhere. Nice big room with a gas fireplace. Great ambiance. Has a calm and peaceful vibe. Little restaurant seved good breakfast food. Walking distance to convention center, Embarcadero, Petco Park and Rady Shell.

We loved the hotel itself but no maid service our entire stay. Booked a queen bed with city balcony. Got a king and no balcony ( king bed way to big for small room) We will go back but will be more demanding of what we booked

Parking attendant was great

This is a wonderful beautiful hotel! This is my second stay and plan on many more!!

Love the location but there is a list of things that have gone down since my last visit. The big #1 was that they changed the daily housekeeping without letting us know when we checked in, you don't even get clean towels unless you ask for them. Water pressure in the bathroom was very poor, espically from the sink. TV reception in our room was very poor with digital break-ups during viewing. Our room was on the side of Island Ave and the noise from outside was very loud on Friday and Saturday night.

Perfect place to stay for Padre games and there's plenty of things to do, food included, within easy walking distance.

This was a nice property with a comfortable bed and very historic. There wasn't issue where there wasn't drywall behind my TV and I heard the room next door when their TV was at a very low volume. Overall it was nice and I would consider staying here again.

The decor was so beautiful and unlike any mega chain hotels. It was charming, beautiful, and little characteristics showed they care about the property and reputation. It exceeded our expectations. The balcony was quaint. We had a great time.

This old hotel is charming with its nooks and crannies, its built-in history lessons, old furniture (but very comfy bed). The staff were all very helpful and friendly. It's close to lots of restaurants, within walking distance of the water front and larger hotels where some conferences may be held. I did not care for the coffee in the room - at the room cost, I think they should provided a better brand. I would stay there again, if I return to San Diego.

The mattress was worn and sagged. The elevator kept us up at night due to it being old and noisy. The elevator could not hold its position on the top floor and would readjust itself all night. The TV pixelated. I told staff but it was never addressed. Had to ask for toilet paper a few times till delivered in the nick of time. We were there 3 nights and housekeeping never came to our room, hence, no toilet paper, etc. Having said all this, it seems to me Covid has its reach. I’m thinking it is a staffing issue.

property is in excellent place downtown sandiego " great eating spots around grocery stores etc My travel companion and i booked the Grand suite with fire place & pull out counch, pull out mattress was awful "needs replacing.ended up we shared the bigger bed , Because it such a bad experience & uncomfortable...Carpet in our room was soiled actually had a small tottlers shoe found in front of large bed upon us checking in our suite? So the question of how did cleaners miss it?andwas the room vaccumed @all? we thought of getting another hotel briefly because my allergies and soiled carpet was all i could think to have sniffling & running nose! Since our stay was short we hit the ground running daily for our scheduled events planned! and decided to not relocate" More expenses to do so & it would mean to modify our itenary! We finished our stay & made the best of our situation! a classic hotel" But i doubt i would ever stay there again" not the Best Experience" ! for myself or travel companion..I will not recomend for the price we paid $$$ too many other hotels in downtown sandiego...

The hotel had a beautiful bar and restaurant associated with it. Upon arrival we went to the bar fir a glass of wine. The servers were pleasant but could not serve any food or snacks that were on the menu as no chef was available. Then when we asked for coffee , the could not make any. Again I asked about breakfast that was on the menu for the morning. The answer was none would be available due to no staff or chef. One of the things that we made the reservation for was the great write ups on the food etc. Our room included a balcony. Sadly a balcony with a view of nothing. Water was in our room but $5.00 each!!!! The shower took several minutes to heat up and the room was old with no plug ins for cell phones or iPads. In the morning no decaf coffee, creamer or sugar was available. My husband went downstairs to the lobby and had to pay $8.00 for two cups of coffee. Again no decaf. All in all, the hotel which had a lovely entry, was a huge disappointment.
