SMELLS LIKE SMOKE, DIRT, RODENTS—Avoid this property, unless you like the smell of smoke, rodents, and staying in dirty property.—Upon arrival, we noticed cigarette butts littered trHroughout the front lawn. Opening the door to the property, which is very run down on the outside (probably why they don’t include photos of the outside of the property in the listing - WARNING SIGN!}. We were immediately hit with the smell of smoke trying to be covered up by air fresheners. We called the host to make them aware, and were immediately met with “that’s impossible - there is no way it can smell like smoke, that’s against property rules.” After explaining that the cigarette butts in the front yard could have easily been from inside the house, the host said “I can’t control what they do outside. But the rules say the property is smoke free.” I asked if the outside is not part of the propèrty and the question was avoided.The host said they would send “maintenance” over but was insistent it didn’t smell like smoke. —Once the maintenance person arrived with a plastic bag of glad plug in fresheners, he walked in and said he couldn’t smell any smoke. We talked for a while - a very nice guy. But it was clear he wasn’t interested in being truthful about the smell and protecting the host. He contradicted himself a few times saying he didn’t know the host, but then later said he knows the host is very good about making things right (although the earlier phone call didn’t (TO BE CONTINUED)
