Location of property was easily accessible, beautiful view and the overall building was great. That’s about the end of the glowing reviews for this property. Overall just unclean, bed linens were stained with new and old stains, floors felt grimy, walls were stained, couch was stained and had a cover over it to conceal the condition. Coffee pot was missing from the coffee maker. I felt completely duped by the listing photos because it looked pristine and clean and it absolutely was not, these pictures have to be quite old. We were pretty bummed by the condition of the condo and extremely glad that we travel with all of our own linens. I would not book this condo again.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer. This is like a 2-star motel on the inside. There was nothing newly renovated. Black mold in the vent registers, dust completely covering the louvered doors of the HVAC closet. Stains on the duvets, black marks on the pillow cases, and stains on the cloth shower curtain. Cheap vinyl shower liner. Stains on the living room furniture. Walls were banged up/chipped drywall and not repaired or painted in years. There was a cover on the sofa which made sitting uncomfortable. Sliding glass door was awfully hard to open as the track was not cleaned or greased. I realize it's the beach, and these doors are heavy.... but taking the time for maintenance will make them slide easier.Gross, dirty inside of kitchen cabinets. Cabinets had been DIY painted a while ago and now paint is chipping/peeling. Mismatched cups/plates etc. to be expected in a cheap place. Coffee pot was broken and owner offered to reimburse me if I got a replacement pot. Yes, the floors sloped, but these are old buildings so I understand. The front door threshold was coming apart and made the front door slightly hard to open/close. Strange locks on the outside of all the doors made it feel like a 2-star motel.Good view with crappy outdoor furniture. There was not enough seating for our party to sit around the table together at once. Community pool was OK. Location was OK with a short walk past one building to get to the beach access walkway.

Please do not stay here — so dirty

This was the dirtiest rental we have ever stayed in. Dishwasher full and washer and dryer had dirty linens in them upon arrival. Bedspreads had been pulled up over dirty beds. Dirt and hair etc all in sheets. We had to go to store and buy sheets and bedspreads and cleaning supplies just to get to bed the first evening. Couch has a cover on it because it’s so dirty.. not at all like picture. We eventually left early as it ruined the vacation. We should have paid attention to the previous reviews… be sure and read them. VRBO is not being helpful at all either. I just want to keep someone else from having this same experience

Ideal Location

Overall very good experience. Owner didn’t respond to an inquiry a few days before our arrival. To be fair the info had been provided in the documentation and I did locate that before we left for vacation but still not very professional to completely ignore our message. Condo was pretty nice. Floors are very uneven but that is a structural issue but didn’t affect our stay. Other than watered down hand soap and no toilet paper in one bathroom (there was a full roll on dining table) we had no issues. The electronic door lock takes some getting used to but once that was mastered it was very convenient. The location was ideal for our needs. Close enough to everything but away from Ang crowds and a view of the water. Nothing quite like an ocean breeze and the sound of the waves to provide a wonderful night’s sleep. The linens were nothing to write home about but when are they ever in a rental. They were perfectly adequate for a short stay. We found the mattress to be very comfortable which was a very nice surprise as you never know what to expect.

Leaves A Lot to be desired

The one good thing about this property is the easy beach access, that is the only positive we found. Everything is dirty or old, for example all the dishes and silverware in the kitchen were dirty, bowls with dried noodles stacked in the cabinet, pots with dried sauce/food on them, dirty forks, spoons and knives. The bath towels and wash rags had holes in them. Master bedroom television remote has duct tape holding it together, but had no batteries in it. Master bathroom shower dips constantly, the other bathroom’s shower curtain has mold all over the bottom of it. Living room furniture is WAY past its prime, couch has a cover but it’s stained and dirty too. Numerous areas of peeling paint all through out the apartment. Master bedroom bed is only about 6-8 inches from the floor, we found it very odd. I could go on and on, but I’ll just say, definitely skip this property until they have done a massive clean and upgrade.

First the positive: The location was very convenient and the views were beautiful! Then the inside: Someone needs to invest time and resources on the inside. We were greeted by a huge roach in the bathroom and dust and debris hanging from the a/c vents. The kitchen is furnished with someone’s left overs, many that were so rusted it was not safe to cook on. The towels didn’t match in any room, some were thread bare. The bed in one room was a futon mattress. One of the 6 dining room chairs was broken, the others were questionable. The sliding screen door had a tear in it. Neither screen door was easy to close. The clothes line would not retract and thus laid on the ground. We found a broom, but no dust pan, a necessity at the beach. The dryer lint collector was missing a part and we had to clean the washing machine before we could use it. There has apparently been a water leak in living room ceiling and the paint is peeling and ceiling is brown. Definitely not worth what we paid.

Perfect Escape!

Nice getaway weekend with my kids and my parents. Everyone slept comfortably. I didn't even care that it rained the whole time. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from the covered deck or living area. Kitchen has bare necessities. Bring all your paper gproducts and toiletries.

The Worst Condo in Oak Island - Do Not Stay Here

This condo was one of the worst places I have ever stayed. We have been traveling to Oak Island for years, and have stayed in a multitude of condos within the complex. The photos shared in the listing for this condo are inaccurate and misleading. The host was not helpful in trying to rectify the situation upon our arrival, and also tried to gaslight us into believing that the condo had been cleaned, and that “it’s one of the best condos in oak island”. The only “kudos” I can give to the owner was that they did allow us to check in early, for free, to the condo. However, it was useless as we had to vacate the property for the cleaning crew to come through (we were told again) to actually clean the property. Upon arrival, we found mud/dirty footprints in bathrooms, toothpaste all over the faucets in the bathrooms, dirty toilets & showers, previous tenants used and dirty towels hanging in bedrooms and in bathrooms, trash in the bathrooms, crumbs all over surfaces in the kitchen, dirty kitchen appliances, dirty laundry machines, missing lightbulbs from light fixtures, broken blinds and closet doors, items left in the fridge from previous tenants, as well as a moldy/dirty & stained shower curtain and liner. The linens were so foul and disgusting that we could not use them at all, and asked the cleaning crew to remove them when they came back to clean. The “soft” surfaces/furniture in this condo were so gross that I never even sat on the couch/chairs once. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Good - > Access to the beach was close, less than a 50 yrd walk. > Property area seemed secure. > Condo bed rooms had adequate closet space and a large refrigerator. > Didn't seem like the beach was overly crowded for a holiday week. > Thought the condo complex was quiet. > Front porch area had adequate space to store beach equipment. Close line on back porch area had a retractable clothes line to hang wet swimsuits. > Swimming pool Bad - > Information for check in was lacking. No information was given that I required a parking pass displayed in my car. Someone from the property management office placed a warning notice on our car that it would be towed unless we displayed a parking permit. > The Couch bed was broken at the head making it dip down. Had to prop up with cushions. It did not have proper fitting sheets. Its a full size mattress and had a twin sheet on top. No blanket or comforter. When the property description mentions it will sleep 9 comfortably. We made it work but it was lacking. > No mention that an e-card was needed to access the swimming pool. The parking and pool card information should be in the check in information. > Kitchen only had 1 towel, it needed more when you do a lot of cooking for the week. > There was not enough bath towels left by the service provider who supplied the linens.

Good condo

We stay at Oak Island several times each year. The view from the condo was fantastic, although we did feel the condo was pretty bare bones. There were no drawers to unpack clothing in the bedrooms only closets to hang items. No selves in the bathroom to put out toiletries. Showers never got hot, stayed lukewarm. With all of that being said we were together as a family and that’s what this trip was about. We didn't need a lot of extras we made it work.

Honest review

We arrived confused thinking that our property was oceanfront. That was not really the case, we were more in the middle of a parking lot at least facing the ocean. We also thought that our room was very close to the pool but it was about 80 yards away, not really in the path to the beach. This could all be poor research on pictures on our part but this was what we thought based on the pictures and info for the property on VRBO. We went into the villa and it is pretty crammed in the main living/kitchen area having 4 adults and 3 children. There definitely were not enough seats to seat the amount of people the villa would sleep. The bedroom off to the right looked to have had a very recent sheetrock repair in the ceiling leaving "mud" on the floor and throw pillows. We then pulled back the bedding to find it rough and full of sand, enough sand that we unmade the bed and shook the sheets out. We had to purchase our own toilet paper since there wasn't any in the bathrooms to even get our stay started. Past reviewers are right, very dinged up over all. I can understand the past great reviews since the property packet you get via email before your stay will tell you how to earn credit if you leave a 5 star review.

So much potential

Absolutely perfect location. Super close to the beach which is perfect for the kids. Plenty of space for 7 people staying. Owners were responsive when I had questions or concerns and they got us into the unit earlier than expected, which we appreciated. There are a few areas that need improved which would make this unit better. 1)Beautiful flooring throughout the condo, however, our feet were black the entire stay. We know sand and dirt get tracked in and swept as much as possible. This may need addressed by whomever is responsible for cleaning the floors after each stay. 2)Beds were comfortable in all but the master bedroom. Upon arrival and the first night we found out that there were slats missing/broken as well as the bed frame was bent in the master room which made it very uncomfortable. During our stay a new bed was delivered which makes me believe this was a known issue to which we were never notified about. 3)Also in the master bathroom, the shower door would continuously crept open so whoever was showering would have to close it to ensure water didn’t get out. 4)There are no dressers! I don’t know how you have a rental without dressers but it was complete chaos with 4 adults and 3 kids trying to find clothes and keep them organized. 5)The porch has amazing views however you can’t see them in the short unstable plastic table and short metal chairs. Most of the units have the tall tables and chairs so you can enjoy the views.

I stayed here with my adult siblings for a beach vacation in July. I would agree with many of the earlier reviews. To start with the positive, the location is fantastic. It's right on the beach, with nice views from the small porch and is also central on Oak Island/Caswell beach and easy to get to stores, restaurants, Southport etc. The unit has the potential to be amazing, but could use a deep clean and some refresh of things like bed sheets, towels, linens, etc. The owners have clearly made some improvements - the floors are new, the kitchen has a new stove, dishwasher and microwave, and the bathrooms were in decent shape. The kitchen, while small, is well equipped with all you need for cooking (which we like to do on vacation). While the condo says it sleeps up to 9 (I think?), I think 6 is the max. There are only 4 dining room chairs at the table inside and outside, so you can't have a sit down dinner for more people. The LR had a 3 seater sofa and 2 chairs, so that only seats 5. We made it work, but it's tight for a large group. We did enjoy ourselves and the beach location made it worth it.

Inside Buildings is Damp/Humid: The critical air conditioning units clearly have not been replaced in many years, nor have the moldy ducting and vents been remediated in probably a long time. A number of guests developed coughs during our stay, affecting their sleep and overall quality of life - this likely can only be explained by the very damp air inside. (Not to mention that the air conditioning is underpowered and works very poorly for controlling the temperature.) 3. Units are Small: The space is tiny. The kitchen is very very cramped, and the living space and bedrooms are barely enough for two families. CONDO UNIT 1. Barely Furnished: No curtains or blinds in the living room and kitchen to give any privacy or block the sunlight and keep the temperature inside from rising everyday. There are not enough chairs for two families, and the ones that are there are cheap and flimsy at best. All of the other sparse furniture is extremely cheap as well. No dressers in the bedrooms or shelving to put things anywhere. 2. Towels are old and stained, not given enough for our party.

Improvements Needed

The location is great (steps from beach). The unit is in need of painting & general refresh (furniture). The thermostat worked at times but had to be disconnected & recharged. Setting & maintaining temperature in unit was difficult. Seemingly simple adjustments would boost experience & rating.

Good location, but wouldn’t stay again

Proximity to beach access was great. Layout and space of the unit was nice, however, the cleanliness and amenities were disappointing. Upon arrival, there was standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher and it smelled horrible. Makes me think the cleaners stopped it mid cycle to save time and it never drained. Both king beds had sand in the sheets. The towels provided were awful. They were rags like something I would dry my car with. The patio furniture needs upgrading as well. The unit has great potential but needs some investment/upgrades.. because I wouldn’t stay again. I’ve stayed in other places that offered more for the same price or even less. I expected decent sheets and towels at this price point.
