The hotel is easily found and at first it looks more like a block of flats. But it is quite nice once in. We really wanted room service but it seemed that it was not possible and we never understood why. So we came down for dinner at their bar as the hotel has nothing around it. It s not really a restaurant and the menu is limited but it was very good! So was the breakfast although German places rarely have croissants and Danish pastries. Just bread and not even a toaster but thatks their way. I cannot criticize. they have cold meats and cheeses which is the norm in Germany
Leonardo Hotel rescued us after another hotel in the city let us down horribly at 1am in the morning (Hotel Am Karlstor was the offender if you're interested – see my review of that one), providing us with a badly needed family room. It was exactly what was required for a short overnight stay while on our travels; clean, tidy, comfortable with very helpful staff but would have been happy to stay for longer.
Fantastic, helpful and friendly staff greet you and wave goodbye each day which made the stay very pleasant. The bed was large and comfortable but I wasn't a huge fan of the extra tv chair by the window - a bit small for tall guy. There was a slight smell in the room as others have mentioned so I left the window open which solved that. The breakfast was pretty good - nice spread of warm and cold (smoked salmon and Black Forest ham) food but steer clear of the scrambled eggs - way too dry. The hotel has a miles and more points scheme which is also a bonus! The car park is not attached to the hotel and requires cash - not a huge issue but just be ready with some euro and get the card validated at reception for a cheaper rate.
A great place to stay if you are looking for something close to the city and close to the train station, the weekend rate suites the place but the midweek rate is far too high for the quality of service you get, I chose the comfort room and the room size was ok, the bedding, especially the comforter inner was fairly old n didnt smell great, you have to keep some water in the bathroom basin at all times to avoid/prevent abhorrent smell that came in through the basin(something to do with their drag system), other than that the room was clean and the staff is very friendly.
This is a hotel that was renovated. But still rooms are a bit small, room for clothes is tiny, small bed, old elevators etc. Staff is great, room is clean, sheets are nice and most facilities are ok. Main issue - street is blocked due to work on the road for months now and it will stay for very long time. No good access by car or walking. Breakfast a Buffet with cereals, fruits, eggs, ham, cheese, bread, sausages, good coffee and potatoes. Nice variety. Open 6-10 am. A bit expansive to what you get, but decent place, close to train station.
Actually pretty good. Building site out the front but that's pretty much true of most of the city. Dead end streets everywhere- pain to get to. The thing that really hacked me off was 15 euros a night to park the car, cash in a machine only....... hey no big deal but a bit of a pain all the same
Unfortunately roadworks in front of the hotel make your GPS crazy. But when you arrive there you can park outside for free or in a covered garage for 12 Euro per day. The hotel is OK, nice room, airco little too loud. Good food in the Leonardo restaurant. Excellent breakfast. Shopping mall with parking garage only 5 minutes away.
4 nights in Karlsruhe on annual trip but a different hotel from other years. Close to conference centre and on 11th floor so marvellous views across the city! Lift stopped at floor 10 but not a problem! The lift was dedicated to floor 10 so very fast. Room comfortable though air-conditioning could not quite cope with the external heat. Room comfortable and well fitted. Breakfast buffet excellent and the bar and bier garden were also excellent. Service was good and staff friendly. Perhaps some more awareness of tourist options should be looked at as my wife was not at the conference and wanted local travel and site advice.
Will not be staying at Leonardo in Karlsruhe for future business trips. The fact that breakfast was asked to NOT be included when the hotel was booked. Then, the receptionist lied when they said breakfast was requested. And finally, when asking the receptionist to have the breakfast charge removed this person said it could not be removed. This charge for 240 Euro was out of my pocket. I will not stay in this hotel again.
Both good and bad, can't complain too much but nothing was really good. The friendliness among the staff were shifting. Some very rude, some okay and some were really helpful and polite. The room were okay, clean and good looking. Bed was alright. However the pillows were really bad, it took 3 pillow to be able to sleep so remember to ask for extra pillows. The shower were leeking a lot on the floor and since the bathroom had no floor drain we had to swipe all the water up with a towel. AC was okay, you couldn't cool the room down entirely but it helped enough to be able to sleep. Might be to the extreme heath outside but it should still be working better. It was about 32 C outside, I think the coldest we could have in the room was about 24-25 C. The breakfast was alright but no excitement at all. The brew coffee was the best thing. The scrambled eggs were dry 6/7 days. We had expected more hot food. But fresh fruit and cheese were a plus. Over all a good stay, clean and good location but nothing extraordinary which is fair enough considering the price.
