I had no idea there was construction going on at this hotel, I would not have booked it because it was difficult to get into. And although the parking is free, you have to go around the corner, enter a parking lot, inform the attendant that you are checking in, park your car, and then go inside and check in and receive a parking permit that you must put on your rear view window prior to going to your room. The room needs to be renovated, hot glue could be seen along the mirror by the bed, the windows in the room are not child proof, and can be easily opened. Thankfully my children did not go near the window. The thermostat was hard to control, it was either too hot or too cold. With check in and check out, I had to wait and was not greeted while I waited in line. When I checked in, there were two male employees chit chatting amongst themselves making sure to keep their heads down as to not have to help me. A nice lady from the office assisted me, she asked how my day was. At check out, there was only one attendant taking his time as tourists who were checking in were asking him multiple questions which made it a long wait. I was graduating from college, and the commencement was held at the Prudential center. I left my key on the front desk so I wouldnt be late. He could've asked me did I need help as he knew he was going to be long. I would not use this hotel again. Too much hassle, when I thought choosing this location was convenient.I will pay double at a nicer hotel

Enjoyed our overnight stay, staff were very accommodating as we arrived well before check-in. They allowed us to have breakfast and had us in a room by 9:30 am. Nice restaurant for dinner, a bit pricey for my Midwestern taste. Overall, I'd gladly return if needed.

great hotel and nicely located, and it is well managed too.

Very convenient location to go to New York. Only 10 minutes from the airport

The staff and the room were clean, but the actual hotel and the rooms were a let down. You can't control the AC or heat, they do that. So you have to open a window if you are hot. The rooms had a musty, old smell every time you walked in and the toilet had the handle bar (the one you use your foot to press) to flush like a public restroom. I did love the shuttle, it was very convenient and efficient. I also liked the little convenient store downstairs, it as perfect for me since I didn't have a car. It was a little expensive and overpriced though. The hotel location was perfect.

During our three day stay, our room was extremely cold. We spoke to the front desk staff multiple times. On the first night we told to turn off the air conditioning and that a heater would be brought to the room, which did not happen. The second day we were told no other rooms were available and was given a heater for two hours. When I spoke to the front desk at check out many excuses were made.

We reserved this room for a short vacation the first night we arrived the room was cold we called the front desk and they said the heat was off and had not been turned on and we understood. Now comes night #2 still no heat and now we get excesses from the front desk , then night # 3 still no heat this was just crazy if we would have known that the room had no heat we never would have reserved the room. Hotel staff would not help with any refund for a room with no heat. I would stay away from this Hotel if at all possible ....

The first room I was in was not all that great and it smelled like smoke. I went down stairs to express my concern being as though I had my baby with me they quickly changed my room which was much better. The guest were too loud and you can here the doors opening and closing every time! I couldn't stand it and sleep much at all which was due to the hallway noise.

Room was little but it was clean. Valet parking available. Breakfast included was sufficient. Great work out room olenty of equipment. Nice lobby.

Spent the week going ro NY city.Located blocks from Penn Station and they have a courtesy shuttle. It was everything I needed at a good price.

A true comeback city, the quality and amenities were excellent. Add to that , that that particular hotel has an impressive history as evident of the plaque that is proudly displayed on its wall; the care to preserve ts history while make it competitive is a testament to BW I would come back but mostly recommend it.

Stayed at this hotel overnight following a roadtrip to attend a concert. A no frills type of location and the experience was essentially as expected

This hotel is a little rough, with peeling wallpaper and dirty carpets. I did not realize that this area was as run down as it was. The staff were nice. The parking is free, however there are not too many spots available. The continental breakfast is okay. I probably would not stay here again.

Friendly staff clean and comfortable room, hotel is located walking distance to just about anything shopping or eating that you may desire. Definitely a big plus if you do not have your own transport. Although its in the heart of downtown Newark I never felt unsafe as pretty much there is a 24/7 police presence. The only negative comment that i could make is that the building is pretty dated, and could use some more upkeep. ie. peeling wallpaper/flaking spackle etc.

Beautiful lobby but then downhill from there. Water in shower and sink brown 2 of 3 days there, safe in closet stopped functioning after 1 day (fortunately I had items out of safe), AC stopped working 3rd night and heat was all that came out so I had to open the window (thankfully you could open it) to get cool air,1 of 2 elevators stopped working Sat morning Oct 24 leaving multitudes people packed in one elevator to capacity going very slowly trying to get most to ground floor to eat at designated food place. Heard from a person standing at elevator waiting with us that she was unable to take stairwell cause exit door at ground level was locked, computer and copy machine in lounge not working (plugged in yes). It was within walking distance to Prudential Center was only positive. The rooms are very outdated and drab. So, needless to say did not enjoy this hotel and will notry recommend.

I've not stayed in a Best Western in nearly 20 years. This hotel really raised my opinion of them. This is an older, traditional style hotel, but well kept up. Overall, we really liked the place and would stay here again on our next trip. Only a few complaints: 1. Bring your room key to the free breakfast area and be prepared to use it to get into the locked room. 2. The hotel/airport shuttle can sometimes be late. 3. The walls are a bit thin (typical of this age).

I didnt enjoy my stay at the hotel this time. The first night right at bedtime i found a not clean bed sheet( it had spots on it). When i went to the front desk i showed the picture of the bed sheet and a maintenance employee was sent with new sheets. He knocked the door and without saying a word handed them to me, i felt like here they are and forget about the other ones.

Thank God I brought my handicap sign. Parking here was AWFUL! there were nights I thought that I was going to have to park on the street. It was a little creepy in the hallways ustairs

hotel nice, the breakfast was too crowded, but it was good

This Best Western Hotel was built in 1916 and is considered old by any standard....however, over the years and an awful lot of money, many changes and renovations have taken place. It has be renewed back to a standard that had surpassed many others in this particular location of New Jersey. You will be surprised at the very first moment when you enter the lobby....you feel like you have just stepped back into the past. This hotel, from the very beginning was considered The Hotel. Hard to believe the number of presidents that were hosted by this hotel. Woodrow Wilson in 1916, Rosevelt 1936, Truman 1948 and John Kennedy 1960. You notice on the street side a bronze plaque that will confirm these visits.....also in 1933 Albert Einstein was honoured with a reception. Enough history....see and feel the atmosphere when you enter this establishment. You will note the desk staff are organized and happy to welcome you. The shuttle staff, if it is Terry, will entertain you during your drive from the Airport, every inch of the building awaits your arrival and you can feel it. We were guests over the past few years but on this occasion we stayed overnight on the 19th of April and the 7th of May. Once again we were very pleased with our room on the 14th floor....clean, comfortable....all items in the room have been updated, flat screen TV, comfortable furniture and every effort made to make your visit a pleasant experience. The hotel is located in a quiet area and far enough away from the airport so that you will get a good nights sleep. The hotel also provides a complimentary breakfast. You will surely enjoy the selections that are available.....also, if you have the time, chat with Julia...she will surely make you day...what a great sense of humour. She is the good looking older chick. All in all, we have enjoyed each and every visit to this hotel and would be pleased to recommend it to others. Enjoy the ambiance and take a stroll back in time...you will be glad you did. Thank you so much Best Western Plus....keep on smiling.
