We moved over to this hotel from the Doubletree after a hectic afternoon and had a great experience, room was clean, large enough for 4 people and a few family who stopped by for a visit to spend time together. Pool area was clean and stocked with towels. We would have driven home 2 hours and instead were able to rest, relax and spend time with family in town. Will definitely book again, thank you for your hosptality! The fireplace was a nice touch, as was the swivel TV stand so we could put the kiddos to bed and turn tv to the grown up side.
First of all, I have stayed at pretty much every hotel in Holland. I stay at the Residence, not because it is perfect, but because it has absolutely everything I need and a great staff that makes my stay very easy. I arrived on a Tuesday and was joined by other family members on Thursday and still more on Saturday. All along, Lauren was amazing...making sure we were able to have everything we needed at every point. This hotel might need a slight facelift, but everything is very clean, and the dinners Monday through Wednesday and the breakfast really adds to the value of the room. Quiet, clean, and comfortable.
overall we were very happy with our stay. plenty of space in the room, comfy beds, nice view, convenient location, and great breakfast! everyone was friendly and helpful and the pool wasn't too cold and the hot tub was perfect temp. we highly recommend this hotel.
We stayed for a full week and had an absolutely fabulous time. The place is centrally located to Holland and surrounding areas. The room had a large refrigerator, above stove microwave, and full size dishwasher. Also had a two burner stove and toaster, coffee maker, etc. Let's start with breakfast. Not exaggerating...the best breakfast of any free breakfast. The breakfast room is huge and was always full of people yet everything was well stocked. The staff really hustled to keep everything stocked. I was very impressed...they always had fresh scrambled eggs that were actually very good...better than most restaurants. They also usually had a couple of great sides such as bacon and sausage, potatoes, etc. They also had different fruits, waffles, cereal, donuts, pastries...frankly, more and better than other hotels. The rooms were clean, the pool was large, indoor and very clean...saltwater pool.
Clean and well managed with a very friendly staff. There is nothing nearby so you have to drive everywhere but downtown Holland is on 7 minutes away and Sagatauk is about 15. Free breakfast is nice but they ran out of food each morning so if you go in peak season go early. Rooms are nice with a small kitchen stocked with items for your dining needs. Full refrigerator, microwave and even a range. There is even an extra closet next to the room door. One bedroom suite with a pull out couch accommodated our family and 65 pound pooch. Pull out couch is comfy enough- no bar in the back scenario. The bathroom is a bit tight but it's okay. The light and the fan are same switch and the fan is very loud so if you wake up in middle of night it's hard not disturb everyone. The queen bed could use a new mattress. There is a TV in bedroom and one living space. Pets are required to be on a leash and owner is expected to clean up. There is green space for dogs outside with a couple of benches and doggie bags. Dogs need to be with owner or in a crate if left unattended. If dog is disruptive to other guests the hotel will ask you to return. There is no size limit for dogs. Overall it's very nice and will likely stay again if bring our dog. My only complaint is that rooms aren't cleaned early enough on weekends. We were out all day and our room wasn't cleaned when we returned at 3. The staff did send housekeeping with more towels and they emptied our trash but were just too tired to leave so they could clean.
We made a spur of the moment decision to spend the weekend in western Michigan and I was looking for a reasonable hotel for my group of four. Pickings were slim, but the Residence Inn had one room left so I took it. Nice two-room suite. Sofa bed, tv, kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator and a bedroom with closet. The bathroom had a shower and toilet and the sink was in the bedroom area. The room was clean. The check in was easy and the staff all very nice. Nice breakfast buffet included. There's nothing nearby to walk to, but Saugatuck is an easy 15 minute drive. Good choice.
We booked the 2 bedroom suite for our sisters 5 day get-together. We live in different states and don't see each other very often, so it was very important to us to room all together so that we could have some bonding time. The rate was reasonable, so we chose RI over a vacation rental. We realize that there is a demand for these suites, so we booked 4 1/2 months ahead, and received a confirmation email. I also confirmed by telephone on a couple occasions. We telephoned the day of our arrival to let the front desk know that we would arrive around 9:30 p.m. Imagine our shock and dismay when we arrived and were told that our room was taken and we would have to stay in two separate rooms with no adjoining door. No one had checked with us first to see if this would be acceptable to us. (It was obviously too late to find another property or vacation rental at that point.) While the 2 1-bedroom suites were nice, it defeated the whole purpose of our get-together. The staff member was very nice and apologetic and offered bonus points, a reduced rate, etc. It was only when we insisted that that separate rooms were not acceptable, that it was offered for us to move to the 2 bedroom for at least the last four nights of our stay. It was an inconvenience to have to stick around and move our luggage, etc., again, but this was the best solution. Then to add insult to injury, we were overcharged by $200 when we received our final bill--this was only corrected when I showed my confirmation email of the rate that was booked. Other than these problems that were eventually corrected, our stay was wonderful. We enjoyed the hot breakfasts, the evening socials with food and drink, the pool and hottub, and the room accommodations. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was a bit of a drive from some of the Holland attractions, but convenient to major roads to Saugatuck and Grand Rapids. I have stayed in Marriott hotels, including Residence Inns, many times and had positive experiences, but this experience does make me hesitate to trust this brand again, particularly this location.
I've stayed at this hotel a number of times over the past few years and continue to be impressed. The staff is well trained, pleasant, and efficient. The hotel and grounds and neat and clean and the rooms are quiet. Best of all this place is usually less expensive than many of the other options around Holland. I suspect that because it is a bit outside of town but we found we could still get to anywhere around Holland within 15 minutes. They serve the typical free breakfast found at the better hotels these days. However the difference here is that the staff does an excellent job of preparing and staging the meal. They work hard to keep up with the tide of guests that come in waves each morning and are responsive to requests. I found the hot eggs and meats (sausage, Canadian bacon, biscuits and gravy), and other items to be much better than similar hotels. In addition they always had fresh apples bananas and oranges each morning. If course the kids loved the hot waffles each morning. I liked the quality coffee they provided in the lobby all day. Best of all was how well the cleaning staff kept the room. They even did the dishes each afternoon. They were always pleasant even though I could tell they worked long hours and were usually still at it at 6pm each evening when we left for dinner. Enjoy your stay!
Jacob at the front desk is outstanding as well as the kitchen and cleaning staff. The outside areas are less than to be desired. I had to ask for the pet waste container be emptied after 3 days of it running over. People were actually using it for their pets. The flower pots are full of dried weeds from last year. The fire pit area smells of rotten food in the garbage can. Sidewalks need to be swept in the patio area. Our room was spacious but the sofa has big stains on it not allowing you to sit on it. Filthy is the word for the furniture, speaking of furniture the furniture in the kitchen lounge are is pealing and needs to go to the junk pile. I have never seen furniture like this in a motel 6 when I showed horses. Comparing to A lesser quality motel Terrible condition. The staff did not realize the condition until I pointed it out. We could not sit in the patio area due to the smell. The manager needs to get off his/her but and do something or be replaced as people will stop coming here. I heard a lady complain about the lighting as it was not working.
I stayed here with family over Memorial Day Weekend in 2017. We had a couple 2 bed/2 baths with full kitchen suites. I love that Marriott offers these types of rooms at an affordable rate. I wish more hotel chains had options like this. My only suggestion would be to get new mattresses, ours felt a bit used. This won't stop me from returning. Kuddos to the amazing hotel staff!
