Marriott's SurfWatch

Marriott has taken care to make sure that the thing they do best (maintain nice villas, rooms and outdoor accommodations) is accomplished. What they left out in the way of dining is an indoor restaurant of any kind. We simply drove 10-15 minutes to a wide array of nice restaurants for breakfast and dinner. No big deal to not have a restaurant although a restaurant would do well here. The beach is just a moments walk from the villas. There is a small boardwalk to the main outside deck by the ocean where there is a bar and grill to sit and have lunch beside both the pool and the ocean. There are plenty of adult drinks being served here and the food is mainly lunch foods and was pretty good. As far as the parking, we never had a problem finding a space. We could easily take the stairs or elevator to our floor to get to our room which is never far away from the stairs or elevator. There are only 4 floors in our building and we stayed on the 3rd which had a full view of the ocean and the grounds including the pools beneath us and between the buildings. Things outside shutter around sunset so the noise dies down early and there were no loud parties, etc. going. The pros heavily outweigh the cons at this beach club. Overall, we were totally satisfied with this pleasant property.

This was our first time at SurfWatch. It is a beautiful property and acred for in every way. Loved our suite and being near the ocean. Easy to get to sights and restaurants. Will plan another trip to SurfWatch.

First off the rooms are fantastic set up for a family of 5, kudos for that set up and thought into hosting families. The heated pools are a big plus, both inside and out. The location to the beach is also fantastic. The property itself is well positioned for your stay and needs. Here are the negatives: 1. Yes they make it known, but there isnt anywhere to eat on this property. There is a small bar by the outside pool that opens around 12 and you can get some items there that are pretty tasty but not dinner, good lunch. but no breakfast. So, with families, just make sure you adjust 2. I checked in ONLY to then find out they were closing the kids size pools for resurfacing and other projects on the property. I guess they didnt know they were going to resurface until the moment I arrived? I even had someone call me prior to arriving to just welcome me and no one ever mentioned the pool being closed. 3 kids under 10, VERY disappointing. The indoor pool also is NOT accomodating to smaller kids. Also, in the indoor pool, it tells you to shower off before entering the hot tub yet there is no shower 3. The gates open about as fast as a turtle walks..they are the absolute slowest gates ever. 4. We were in the back bldg I think bldg 56 which is by the beach. It is labeled with a big 52 on the bldg. You sit there and look and are like are we sure this is it? I had to call the front. They said it is 56 but the address is 52? huh? Makes no sense 5. I forgot my key to access the gate and get into the bldg 56. I called the front using the button and they simply just opened the questions, no words spoken just simply opened it..nice tight security? 6. The signs from the main road are AWFUL!!! In fact there arent any depending on what way you come in. When I called the front desks best direction was to turn left or right at the Sherwin Williams paint store, literally thats how bad their signs are. In fact if you come from one way, as soon as you miss your turn, they have a sign that states you need to turn around as you missed your turn..I mean its immediately AFTER you miss your turn..HORRIBLE..if you come from the other direction there is a VERY dimly lighted tiny sign that you can view if you squint just perfectly..cant understand WHY they have such bad signage and then once you turn on that road, its impossible to know what street to turn down to access the front desk.

My family traveled to Hilton Head, SC and stayed at the Marriott SurfWatch. WOW! Let me tell you about this week! The SurfWatch personnel were the most accommodating individuals anyone could ask for. They were anxious to make every moment of our stay outstanding. The accommodations requested were three bedrooms for each family group. We requested that our units be close together as there were small children who liked being with their cousins. SurfWatch placed our groups next door to one another which made planning activities very easy. Going to the beach, indoor and ocean front pools, daily scheduled activities, and any area on the property was made even easier as complimentary shuttles were provided by just making a phone call to the front desk. Also provided by Marriott were lists of outstanding restaurants offering discounts by merely showing your room keycard. With all this said, let me tell you about the units themselves. The three bedroom units were very spacious with three bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, very comfortable living rooms and balconies overlooking the lake. The entire units were very well kept and cleaned to perfection! Finally, one last word about the personnel. Every employee of this property, front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, shuttle drivers, and activity planners were the most accommodating individuals anyone could ask for!!! Thank you Marriott SurfWatch for this exceptional and outstanding week's experience!

We stayed in one of the 3-bedroom villas with the garden view, which sleeps 11 people. Because we only had a party of 8, we really felt like we had a lot of space. Of course it's a Marriott so the room was immaculate and all of the furniture very comfortable. There are also villas with a courtyard view and ocean view, the latter being, presumably more costly. I tend to use my resorts as a "headquarters" to see other things in the surrounding cities, communities or states. This time it was no different as we toured Charleston and Savannah several times. Of course there is also plenty to do in Hilton Head, as well. This time, however, I did enjoy the amenities of the resort a little more and I was pleasantly surprised. We went down and sipped cocktails near the beach at the Sea Salts Beverage Company Pool Bar and Grill. While Daddy was at the bar, the kids went to the beach, just a few feet away, and then to the pool, also a few feet away. Access to these amenities were just a short walk on the boardwalk near our room. On the way back, we hitched a ride back on one of the useful golf carts driven by Surfwatch staff. I usually don't go for this type of thing but I had a great time on their craft beer night, which required one small fee for a wristband which got me unlimited brews. We also enjoyed the hot dog and brat night which included live music. It was a lot of fun and had a definite community feel to it. Oh yeah, we also had complimentary breakfast one morning and sat around the fire ring. I can't say enough good things about Marriott's SurfWatch! So, if you use it as your headquarters, like I did, or just stay locked at the resort, you will thoroughly enjoy it. Even while sitting at the lobby computer I felt like I could've stayed there all day while enjoying free Jelly Bellies from the front desk candy bowl.

We visited Surfwatch for the first time 2 years ago. We loved it do much we have been back 5 times, and often stay over a week. The staff is professional and honest. When I asked that their indoor pool be turned up to 86 or 88 in January to cater to the snowbird older women in residence at the resort, Haites of the pool staff worked with Case Spencer (GM) to make that happen. Activities staff is excellent and regularly wins national recognition. Resort is beach front, but several buildings are 1/2 mile from beach. But those are all very close to pools and activities. Of all the Marriott resorts...and we did 200+ nights last year...this is our favorite by far.

We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate this great Marriott resort. The property is beautiful, well maintained, a dune walk away from the beach. The staff is pleasant and professional. The activities and social options are many and well organized. We especially enjoy the cook- outs, chili bowl, brats and hot dogs. The in house movie theater and in room movies are another plus. The villas are well decorated, well furnished and comfortable. This is vacation spot to which we return with pleasure knowing it will be excellent.

We checked into the surfwatch on Jan 19th. I had phoned a couple times to get information on events. Keil, was very helpful. I also spoke with Austin. A couple weeks before we arrived I phoned and reached Adam. We are so thankful that Adam, was so efficient, He asked if we wanted our second room on the 26th to be adjacent to ours. I was confused and said we only had booked two weeks. Somehow, when we traded our Marriott properties we ended up with another room for the second week. Had Adam, not been so good in pointing that out we woul have lost a week of exchange. Please thank Adam for us. Jacob, greeted us on the 19th and said we would like our location. He was right, we were in the Marsh building 5134. We could see the ocean from our room. The two bedroom villa was immaculate. Jacob, said we would be in the same room for both weeks. He also assured us we had the feather free room. We met the cleaning staff on the way to our room. They were very friendly. After the first night I asked Jaleel, if he could locate another pillow for us. He was very prompt locating one for us. Another day Shimone, was so helpful. He brought me additional hangers and was so prompt. Another day he brought a riser for the commode. Whatever you requested he was willing to make sure that he could help you. I told him he should consider a career with Marriott. He had such pride with his job. Mary, did the cleaning on the 26th and everything was done to perfection. The indoor swimming pool was kept beautiful by Haedes Smok. The two outdoor pools were also tended by him. Rosa, was at the front desk and we have enjoyed her helpfulness for many years. I had purchased post cards and bought stamps one day from Rosa, she took the time to run out and deposit them before the mail man picked up the mail. One example of the caring front desk. The activity staff was 10 star. Josh, did a great job informing us how to play bocci ball. He helped with many activities and he was also so good with Mikaela, a new intern from Penn State explaining things to her. Elizabeth, did the indoor pool exercise class most days and she was excellent. Tanner, also did an outstanding class. Becky, did it too and Mikaela assisted her one day. Participants all appreciated their classes. I can't say enough about the activity staff. Will, was excellent too. Mikaela & Josh helped with the glass necklace class one day. It was a fun project that you could make for $15.00. Grandkids approved so on another day we did three more. The complimentary brats one night were wonderful. Josh, did an excellent job. They offered it both weeks, but, we had gone to the Jazz corner on that night. They offered a chili dinner another night for $3.00. You could have it in a bowl or bread. Josh, served it the night we had it. They served cornbread one night and all the fixins for chili. Toni, at checkout was just as good as the other staff. They all wanted to make sure every expectation was met. The activity staff was exceptional. I hope that I didn't leave anyone out. They all worked so very hard to make your stay memorable. We think that two weeks is not enough, so plan on booking three weeks next year.

We decided to spend some time at SurfWatch on our way to and from Florida and were pleasantly surprised as to how well this resort is maintained. Our 2BR villa during both stays were clean, will equipped, with comfortable bedding. The staff were all very friendly and seemed sincere in wanting to make us feel at home. The grounds were beautiful with many things to take advantage of, our favorite was the 3 firepits which the resort offers hot-dogs, sausage dogs and drinks for the guest. We will make this stop annually on our winter stay on Florida.

The best Marriott property on Hilton Head! Big enough to have the amenities that you would want, but small enough for easy access to all that is available. A special thank you to the ladies who welcomed us. They had been relocated from Puerto Rico after the disaster. Amazing service and our prayers are still with you. The 3BR unit we stayed in was far from the beach, but still a great location overlooking the central lake. Each bedroom was private. Since it was cool, we spent a great deal of time in the indoor hot tub and pool which were excellent. My wife was impressed with the onsite yoga instructor. The bicycle rental was quick and painless. We actually saw a dolphin in the ocean as we rode along the beach. We took advantage of most diversions around the grounds and played shuffleboard, ping pong, bocce ball, cornhole, and even putted some golf balls. We normally play tennis at Palmetto Dunes, but changed up and went to the local public courts located at Chaplin Community Park (1/2 mile away). There are more than enough well maintained hard courts and one of the regulars can show you how to turn on the lights for a night session.
