I chose this place because of its reviews and that it had room service. I have a trache in place so therefore indo not eat in public. I flew in from the states on business. Tried ordering for room service that promotes itself as 24 hrs. What they do not tell you is unless there is an event. No car, no phone book, I really am furious about this turn of events.

Arrived at the hotel after a short drive from Watford. Pulled into the car park and it immediately looked like one of those motels from the movies where the hookers hang out! But me and my brother shrugged this off as the reviews on booking.com were very good! (Should have read trip advisor too). We went into reception where we was greeted by one man who was incredibly hard to understand. Not only was he hard to understand but he was too busy answering phone calls whilst trying to check us in! (Very rude) I asked whether we paid on checkout or in full at the time as me and my brother had to pay separately. He said it was fine to pay on checkout but he would have to take a pre something or other from the card. He then told me that no payment would come from my card until checkout. So I put my pin in, despite seeing £200 on the card machine. I checked my bank account balance straight away and the money had been taken from my account instantly despite being told it wouldn't be. He then insisted that the money hadn't been taken when I could clearly see that it had and there was no point arguing with him because he didn't understand. Was easier to just accept it! Anyways that got sorted out and we was off to our rooms. I got to my room (103) and was in the dark. I wasn't told that the card needed to go into a slot in the wall which I struggled around to find for 5 minutes just to get some light. That wasn't the only problem... my room reeked of raw sewage... knowing a bit about plumbing I ran the shower and that got rid of the smell. So I took a shower and decided when I got out that I would make a cup of tea! The kettle was basically on the floor wired into the wall so when it boiled the water burnt my hand trying to pick it up. I managed to make a cup of tea in the end. My brother, however, at the same time, was having bigger issues than me. His shower wasn't working properly, when he tried to run a bath, the shower head came on with the taps. He complained to reception to the same man who checked us in and he basically told him to put up with is as maintenance couldn't come and fix it till tomorrow. We decided to take a walk over to the pub across the road to relax and get away from the problems. (Pub is very nice and food is amazing according to locals, we wasn't there long enough to order food). We walked back to the rooms and instantly the problems were back.. the smell and the shower. We immediately went to reception and asked for a refund! After much discussion we agreed that we would swallow our pride and pay for 1 night and refund the second! We are now at home 60 miles away from work and are driving back in the morning as that was a better option and cheaper. Will never be going back there again and would not recommend this place to anyone! Should be shut down and renovated with new staff and management!

Unfortunately I am still in my room writing this review. I thought the reviews couldn't be true.... they are!! How a place with such potential could be so bad is beyond belief. Check in was tedious, trying to get a drink took an age and the room.... the usual dusty cobwebs in the corners and a rather extensive collection of hair on the lamp shade (nice). We took the safe option of eating over the road at the pub and can highly recommend this option! What really, really made me want to write this review was our two night stay (Yes one night is too much), but two it was....after an early 5.45hrs start we returned at 20.00hrs to find our room empty, all our luggage and belongings gone..... they hadn't realised we were here for two nights and stored it all in reception!! So, could it get worse... YES! We were advised breakfast was included (didn't expect it at 5.45hrs), we enquired on times on our return (after another room was found)...... but as we got to the room we were called by reception that breakfast was NOT included!! You cannot make this up! DO NOT STAY HERE!

A one night stay at this place was one night too long ! Booked due to its location for a business meeting for me and a colleague. Check was tediously slow - mainly because the man on reception couldn't find the booking of the 3 gents checking in before us ! 20 mins later we checked in but my colleague couldn't get into his room ! Finally got in - the receptionist forced the door open !! Only plus was the oub directly across the road - great food and very good beer ! After the meal, 9.30pm, I went to my room and my colleague went to his. He couldn't get in and neither could the staff ! He was told to go the bar and get a free drink whilst it was sorted and told no other rooms available ! At 12am still in the bar and no access to his room. Finally offered another room (with his things in the locked room). At 1.00am reception phoned to say they'd got in so he moved back to his original room .... but window smashed and door wouldn't shut. It was an absolute shambles and no sign of a discount at check out either .... good job it was a business trip or we'd have really kicked off ! I don't write bad reviews in general but felt that I had to on this occasion.

We had booked through booking.com sadly and when we arrived, they couldn't find our booking. The man handling the booking treated us as if it was our fault. We were given a room which was adequate but not great as it was tatty and smelt awful. We kept the window open but unfortunately the smell didn't go away. The bed was lovely and comfortable with crisp white linen. The bathroom was fine with clean white towels. Breakfast was good, could have been hotter though and we had to ask twice before we were given cups of tea. The staff didn't replenish the Danish pastries even the breakfast still had 40minures to go. The hotel itself and our room both looked tired and not very well cared for, although the bar overlooking the water looked like a good place to sit.

Have used this hotel for the last nine months. Not a bad place to stay, staff are great, sometimes take a little understanding. Rooms are basic but clean. Parking is ok and safe. Not bad for the money.

I stayed here on Sat 6th May, Staff were unhelpful and could barely speak English, Room was full of Cobwebs it had not been dusted foe MONTHS!! Breakfast was awful- overcooked processed rubbish. DO NOT STAY HERE EVER!!!!! Go to the Mill house down the road, better ambience and staff.

We visited this hotel with Strathmore Travel in May and if we hadn’t travelled with them before and known what their hotels are usually like, then we wouldn’t ever go back with them. The hotel bedroom was fine. Large space with desk, table and 2 chairs, plenty of drawer space and hanging area. Large bathroom with bath & shower with toiletries. The first night we were kept awake with a sound like a kettle coming to the boil and in the morning discovered that it was the radiator, which we managed to sort. The double glazing was past its best as it didn’t seal properly but we jammed some coins in the catch and that helped. BUT we arrived 2 hours later than scheduled and the meal must have been kept hot as it was glorified fish fingers, all desiccated, or beef stew or pasta. The soup was rationed to 1 ladleful each and the sweets were straight from the cash & carry and divided into exactly 22 servings, the number of people on the coach. Every night there was a choice of 3 mains, 2 starters and 1 sweet plus fruit. There were only 2 waiting staff and only one of them was doing any work – the other one just swanned about. The worst bit was that there was a group of young business people in and they were getting a la carte dishes taken to their table by this one waitress while we had to queue up like Oliver Twist. Breakfast was cereals, fruit, and cooked bacon, sausage, tomato, beans, mushrooms and very odd scrambled eggs, don’t know what was in them but I’ve never tasted scrambled eggs like that before. They were always running out of glasses and plates because the one waitress couldn’t do all the work on her own. There is a lovely picture on the hotel’s website of the duckpond and decking area but we couldn’t get out to it as all the doors were locked. The last night we had had enough of the meals and went to the pub across the road and had a great meal. Our driver was there too!!

Attended a wedding at this hotel. Everything was well directed and set and it really is an awesome place as the grounds were well maintained. There was sufficient parking, lovely location and very scenic and peaceful. Good to stop here for drinks or food too.
