This resort hotel is old, dirty, and run down. It needs a make-over inside and out.
Our room was noisy with traffic, and a ventilation system that sounded like an aircraft taking off.
The initial key cards to our room did not function—we could not get into our room!—even after 3 trips back to the front desk for new keys. Apparently, the locking mechanism on the door was faulty, but despite my request, they would not offer us a different room. We would have to wait for the entry system to be repaired.
We decided to leave our luggage at the front desk and go out for a couple hours while waiting for the lock to be repaired. Upon return to the hotel, the keys STILL did not function, and our luggage had not been delivered to the room.
The desk clerk gave us vouchers for free mai tai cocktails as a concession, but the bar server—AND HER MANAGER—would not honor them because they were not presented immediately upon seating. (Apparently, the voucher mai tais are not the same quality as a regular mai tai, so they want to see the voucher beforehand to know which mai tai to make and serve.)
You can do much better than the Royal Kona Resort—a dilapidated, old hotel with resort prices and poor service.
