Room-Our room was huge. We stayed in Rm. C213. Plenty of space, Very nice with all the latest appliances. The drawbacks were the view out of the large glass windows and doors to the balcony was the putt putt deck. A room over looking the bay would have more activity to see. Bring binoculars. Also you can not control the thermostats. They are pre set at 73 degrees. In the day it gets a little warm but at night it was very cool. Also make sure you do not get a room with the trash chute right outside of the room. You could hear the trash falling down late at night and early morning. We were on the second floor and had trash falling from the top floors. Very loud. The registration desk was located in the first building so if you needed to check out clubs, balls etc, you had to walk all the way to the first building to do this. A little out of the way. Overall, it was a great place to stay. Plenty of pools, easy shuttle to the beach.
My family and I stayed for 4 days and 3 nights the room was beyond our expectations. The resort was wonderful, clean and staff was very friendly. We will definitely be back. Hopefully we can stay longer.
We stayed in Bldg D, & our condo was very nice, clean, updated, w/ a great view of the Bay. We enjoyed it! The resort has a strange layout that is difficult to navigate. It was easy to park in our spot by the elevator to access our floor, but getting to other areas is tricky. There are different elevators you have to find to go to certain areas like the lazy river or slides. It was really confusing, esp. because there was no map detailing how to get around the resort-only 1 aerial map showing the bldgs & pools..no directions on how to actually access them. Everyone else was just as confused. Once we found the pool area, it looked nice and spacious, but soon the kids were back crying with their feet full of splinters from the wooden deck- very big painful splinters & many small ones. It was an awful way to start our trip. They couldn't walk on their feet, so we called it a day to go buy supplies to remove them. It was incredibly disappointing because that's why we chose the D bldg due to it's proximity to the pools. There's a trolley that will take you 5 minutes away to the beach -otherwise I'd recommend driving. The beach is beautiful once you're there. We learned that playing in the sand & waves for hours helped loosen some of the tiny lodged splinters! Cobalt Restaurant next to the resort was fantastic, especially for kids. Overall, we wouldn't consider going back to Caribe - with the awkward layout, wood deck issue, and not being closer to the beach being our main reasons.
Our group of ten just completed our stay. Our family of four stayed in tower D floor 10. Our condo was amazing, advertised to sleep 12, and our view was perfect. We were bay and pool front as our balcony wrapped around the aide. Great view of sunsets!! The owners of our condo have an AMAZING place and clearly take pride in their place! We couldn’t be happier with every aspect of our condo!! The amenities were good. There are plenty for kids to do from swimming (both indoor and outdoor) mini golf, basketball, cornhole etc. Plenty to do, though getting clubs, bags etc for the games turned out to be a feat. We were unable to get the equipment from our tower (office was closed?) so it was somewhat of a hassle, but not a deal breaker. The pools and elevators were clean, as were the halls and rooms. The pools are NOT heated. Brrrr. My other warning to families is to be sure your kiddos have footwear on at all time! The wooden decking throughout caused major splinters! :( We had a great experience with our dolphin cruise experience. The captain and crew were amazing! Our booking for the pontoon was disappointing, though. I would recommend Caribe to families but would personally choose to stay again during the summer months. Early April is still chilly here. The staff at Caribe was incredible and the families staying here were great as well!
This review will be only for the property not our actual condo seeing we rented on VRBO. The view from building D corner unit gets a 5 star no question. It was by far our favorite part. Location - FIRST , this resort is NOT ocean front. You can get to the ocean easily enough but you are not going to take an elevator down and be on the ocean in two minutes. It’s close to flora-bama if that’s your thing and beach stores , restaurants and grocery store or fairly close. We had a corner unit in building D and the view is AMAZING. Amenities - we were in building D and even though the lazy river is technically in front of D it was a major pain in the butt to get to. We had to take the elevator down , walk down a couple steps into a stuffy indoor pool take an elevator walk up a few more steps to get to the lazy river. Which is only 1.5 feet deep and freezing the end of March early April. The pools were pretty and some of them had slides. Hot tubs could not be used by adults because a couple groups let their small children use them as splash pools. Our group of 14 loved the bocce ball , basketball and tennis courts. Beach access- it’s close but not the easiest to get down to the water. You can take a trolley that takes you under the bridge. There are LONG boardwalks and I mean long when you are lugging all your beach gear. My advice is take the far right one it’s by far the shortest. You will come out near the bridge. I do have to say the water was very clear and beautiful when we were there. Everyone was commenting on it. *if you are elderly or have any kind of back knee pain I would 100% take your car and cross the road and park in the beach access off property across the street. If you want to take a dolphin cruise there is a boat that leaves right from the property that we really enjoyed. Our families had a great time but pools and beach access were a pain. If you forgot something back at your condo it was not a hey I will run back up quick and grab it. If those things don’t bother you I would recommend Caribe. We would even visit again. For sure park across the street to go to the beach , skip the lazy river and 100% get a corner unit in building D.
Having never visited Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, we were unsure about what property would best suit us. Fortunately we stumbled upon El Caribe and booked. El Caribe sits on the eastern edge of the strip, away from the crowded streets and beaches, but only a few minutes to all the dining opportunities. The resort offers shuttle rides (1-2 min) to a beautiful white sand peninsula, but you can walk it in 5 min or drive yourself. What makes it great, however, is the number of pools (I think we’ve counted 7) both indoor and outdoor. A lazy river, 5 water slides, at least 6 hot tubs, 2 workout rooms and health spas, playgrounds, bbq picnic areas, and a whole slew of boat/jet skit/watercraft rentals. The atriums are well cared for and the rooms are top-notch. Basketball, pickle ball, tennis courts, with bocce ball and horseshoe areas. All in a secure gated resort. This is a family friendly property with more deck space to lay out and soak the sun than I have ever seen. Although the property is not brand new, it is well-maintained.
I have two different viewpoints on my stay at Caribe. One of the Caribe property itself, and the other on our specific condo, Property D213. First will be the Caribe resort. It is a beautiful place, that on the surface seems packed with amenities. And the amenities are all there, just not as easy to access as you may think. First, the abundance of outdoor pools and the magnificent lazy river. The week we stayed, the weather was a bit cool (upper 60's, lower 70's but sunny), but the pools were freezing. I had read in reviews that the lazy river tended to be warmer. And the lazy river was the main reason we had chosen Caribe, so we weren't worried about the forecasted cooler temps. We arrived to find the lazy river was closed for the week for renovations. Our MAIN reason for choosing Caribe was closed for our entire stay. I realize that renovations need to happen. But had the resort advertised in some way (an email, their FB page, etc...), we would have chosen a different date. Our dates were flexible. But they chose NOT to disclose this. And have in turn lost a returning customer. Therefore, our son's only option for swimming for the week was the indoor pools. Now on to them....Each building has it's own indoor pool. So you may think, great! Even if the weather isn't great, we have three indoor pools to choose from. They are all the exact same. A slight variation in the tiny slides are the only difference. So it's isn't worth the maze to find your way from building to building. They are small, and the "furniture" is terrible. Hard, wooden, upright chairs. NOT comfortable when you are stuck at the indoor pool all day because the lazy river is closed. ~Communication is terrible. I had no interaction with anyone besides front gate security. I "texted" via the app inquiring about when/if the lazy river would open, and never received a response. On our day of checkout, I called "0" as you are told to do to checkout. There was no answer, so I left a msg at the front desk. When our first plane landed, I had a text msg saying that if we didn't checkout in 1/2 hour we would be charged an additional day. I then had to make a phone call from a loud airport during a very short layover to inform them that I had left a msg at 5am stating that we were checking out. ~ They also have many "yard games". Beware, there is only one place on the entire property that you can checkout gear, and you want to get there early, or it's gone. That may also be because the water in the pools was freezing and the lazy river was closed. ~ Now the not so bad....Parking~ Our spot happened to be close and convenient. One day we arrived back to find someone in our spot. We mentioned it to a maintenance person who happened to be right there. They immediately got on the radio and got it resolved. Beach access~ I have mobility issues, so walking wasn't an option for me. But for the rest of the family, they walked to the beach several times, and said it was an easy walk. We never used the trolly, but it looked nice, and we saw it around often. And if you want to drive yourself it is a very short, easy drive. The location of Caribe is very convenient to restaurants, shops, etc. I would however, expect a place of that size to have some sort of coffee bar on the premises. If you decide that you want to give Caribe a shot, here is how we felt about property D213. I will start with the good. Huge, clean, and well stocked. There wasn't one thing in the kitchen that we needed that wasn't there. And the entire place was sparkling clean upon our arrival. The master bedroom suite is stunning. With a huge walk-in closet that I was not expecting. There is an actual "laundry room" in the condo with the washer and dryer and extra storage space (Any other condos I have rented, the W&D have been in a closet). Be prepared there is absolutely NO view from this floor. We were beach facing, but all we could see were the retaining walls from the lazy river and palm trees. You have a fantastic patio that is accessible from the living area, or the master bedroom. It has a nice big table for dining and a couple of lounge chairs. But no view whatsoever. Also to say that the bed in the master bedroom is high is a vast understatement. If you have ANY knee, hip, mobility issues it will be next to impossible to get into this bed. It's a very comfortable bed. but SO high. The furniture in the living area is outdated and uncomfortable. Orange Beach is stunning. And we WILL be returning (this was our first visit). But we will not be returning to Caribe. There seem to be many other beautiful places to choose from.
We couldn't have been happier with our rental here. We had two families in one (very large) unit and had a blast. The property has a bit of everything and is in a fantastic location. Can't say enough about how welcome the multiple pools (indoor and outdoor) were for us, especially in the finicky March weather. So many activities and very clean.
My friends and I stayed at the caribe during spring break, the staff was excellent and the room was terrific. We enjoyed the pools and hotubs. The shuttle to the beach didn’t run enough but I appreciated the amount of security on the property. The cabana snack bar by the pool was lacking, but it was overall a great trip!
Beautiful resort ! Restaurant right next to property with amazing food and atmosphere The Cobalt. Spacious family friendly accommodations. Sad the lazy river was closed but property location is central and short walk to Orange Beach. Many properties are managed by Liquid Life which if I would’ve booked direct instead of through Home Away could’ve saved me extra fees and seemed to have better pricing, but live and learn! Definitely going back to this beautiful area of Gulf Shores!
