This group just keeps getting better. The Sofitels are fantastic throughout the World. Staff are great. Tariffs were exceptionally reasonable. Great Breakfasts and right in the heart of Broadbeach. Loved it and will be back. The AccorHotels are the only ones I will ever use.
We had breakfast here with friends from New Zealand we were all very impressed with the variety of food and thoroughly it all. We were able to sit and talk over our breakfast, the staff were very good and most friendly they made us feel very welcomed.
We stayed for 2 nights recently and our feedback is:- - In desperate need of a renovation - Rooms dirty and dusty - Mouldy bathroom and tiny shower - Overall does not represent good value for money. The only positive was the location and we definitely won't return until it has been renovated.
for $260 a night the bed was way too short & small, I was given given complementary breakfast as a platinum member which was very ordinary in selection. Its hard too imagine the cheapest room they had was $260 a night that did not include breakfast
A little disappointed... Upgraded to a superior room with an ocean view, well, we got the ocean view but there was nothing superior about the room... Room was tiny, certainly nothing like the pictures and is well overdue for a Reno and a darn good clean... had to listen to the service elevators going up and down during the night also which was crap...The location of the hotel was it's saving grace but still doesn't change the fact that it's an old hotel and it needs a bit of TLC... The buffet breakfast and service was great...
I stayed 7 nights with my wife at the Sofitel during our winter. This was an opportunity to escape the colder weather in our hometown of Sydney and to relax and enjoy the delights of the Gold Coast. The first goal was achieved as it was a good 5 degrees warmer than Sydney each day with lots of sun and very little rain. The second and third goals were achieved as well because the whole precinct lends itself to relaxation and sightseeing. My wife and I both enjoy walking, so we walked from Broadbeach to Surfers Paradise on a couple of days which is a flat and easy walk of around 20 minutes. The hotel was well equipped and clean with terrific views. We were asked at check in whether we wanted to upgrade to an ocean view but we decided that the river/city view would be better and we were not disappointed with our view on the 10th floor. Would consider staying here again in the future.
Early arrival, room not ready came back 2hrs later[check-in time] room miraculously just ready. I was offered an up-grade room on arrival[would have had to pay].Parking $15. a day-your visitor will have to pay $15.an hour ! Was told no DVD in room but when hunting for a room service menu[it's on the TV screen !!] found that a DVD was available and was in my room in minutes.Excellent friendly manner from all staff on Dial 9. Total lack of any contact from any staff member after check-in from front of house staff. Admittedly the position of the elevators prevent any eye contact from staff if they were on the floor, or looked up from their computors. Room--very large, VERY comfortable bed and pillows, dated but adequate extra furniture, nice big bathroom and the BEST shower pressure and HOT water--always. All the usual in-room niceities and a perfect view to the hinterland[prefer that to the ocean] and on 16th floor. Lifts-not much waiting but they don't all 'ding' on arrival so did miss a few and if going to the car park be sure to get in the right one as not all go there. Lovely pool and lots of lounges but it's always a battle with the winds though much improved from the old Mercure days. No pool service-have to order from the Bistro but they do bring it out to you. Maybe there is in summer,busy periods. Did have a few grouches but they were very ably answered by the very polite Asst.Manager on duty and think from his explanations that there will be many new developments within the Sofitel in the near future. I rated it Average as it's not Very Good so I would say Adequate with growth potential. I was looking at the screen in the lift promoting Sofitel in other countries and I thought WOW, if only Broadbeach was like those but then my 3 night package price would probably only cover sleeping in my car in their garage [and use of the pool !].
The staff were really helpful before our visit and during our stay. The rooms were quiet, with great views of the ocean. The heated outside pool was cool for me and the wind meant the water in the pool was choppy - so not fun to swim in. Shame there wasn't more protection from the wind around the pool. I didn't like the proximity of the pool to where guests were eating breakfast, to conference guests and the lack of toilet/shower facilities. The gym was small and inadequate. Breakfast was excellent - plenty of gluten-free choices; when requested, gluten-free bacon was made or gluten-free toast was toasted in the kitchen away from wheat bread.
Stayed here as an Accor Plus Platinum member Good 1) Location is excellent. Right in the center of Broadbeach with attached shopping malls to the hotel and plenty of restaurants and shops next to the hotel 2) Walking distance (several minutes) to the beach 3) There is a Pokies gaming lounge connected to the hotel lobby 4) Partial seaview (50%). There are around 4 to 5 buildings/condo obstructing the sea view. Was told that my room had been upgraded but I’m not too sure since the room looked small. Maybe the upgrade referred to a room just on a higher floor instead of an upgrade to a bigger room 5) Dinner in the Bistro on 3 Restaurant was good. Ordered the King prawn, escargot, fish and lamb. The lamb was great. Only paid 50% due to Accor Plus Dining benefit. Great value for money. Much better than the restaurants we ate near the hotel such as Yellowfin Seafood restaurant which was nothing special and not value for money 6) Welcome drink and chocolate goodies for Platinum member 7) Option of either free breakfast or 500 points as Platinum benefit 8) Lanvin toiletries 9) Valet parking at A$ 30 daily or A$ 15 for self park Bad 1) Many Accor hotels allowed Platinum members to have free access to Premium Speed internet but not this hotel. Told them about this policy but the service desk rejected my request. The service desk mentioned that the complimentary internet is good. Maybe this person doesn't know anything about internet and was probably living in the dinosaurs era 2) Internet only allowed 3 devices to be logged on. Internet was slow, unstable and had to re-login everyday which was quite pathetic. The internet is worse than those A$40 hotel in Asia. Had no choice but to drop by Pacific Fair shopping mall to buy an Optus 7 GB dataplan for A$40 since the hotel internet was pathetic. Otherwise, I cannot access the internet throughout my 5 days stay 3) Breakfast selection was limited (typical sausage, bread, baked beans, egg) so we only ate once during our 5 days stay. No where near the standard of a 4 star hotel in Asia, not to even mention the solid 5 star in Asia 4) No drinking water at all throughout the stay. Had to go down to the supermarket to buy drinking water everyday which is a shame This is my first time staying in a 5 star hotel which doesn’t provide drinking water (I am a Platinum member with Marriott, Starwood, Accor and Intercontinental group and I stay around 200 to 300 nights a year). How much does a bottle of drinking water cost? A$1? Yet the hotel doesn’t provide drinking water which is a basic human need. This is an International Joke 5) Car park was small and narrow. Seemed to be an old building around 1980s type of car park Overall, I rate my stay to be 6.5 out of 10.
I checked into the Sofitel for a four night business stay. When I got to my room, I noticed a few things I really don't like in a room (adjacent to the lifts, interconnecting doors). I explained this to the staff and before I returned from dinner, they had switched my room to one that better met my needs. The buffet breakfast is fantastic - fresh food, lots of choice - and the hotel is perfectly located. Thanks Sofitel team, I'll be recommending you!
