The room wasn't big but it was good enough. Very friendly staff; overall clean and neat hotel; right in the city center (<5 mins from the Duomo). We enjoyed our stay. Only the breakfast buffet could use some more fresh food, also they had nothing to eat for vegans.
Short walk from train station and centre of Florence and all the tourist attractions. Restaurants and pubs nearby are very good, many choices just a short walk away. The shower was great! Breakfast was included. Staff were very helpful.
The first thing that appeals about the hotel is its proximity to the station and a picturesque chapel. Although the hotel may not impress with its looks, there was an endearing spirit. Cosy room ( we stayed on the 3rd floor) and reasonably good breakfast. The staff ready to help with directions to the locations and may even help with opening wine bottle! Variety of restaurants nearby. On the negative side, the lift is accessible only after climbing a flight of stairs (if you have heavy luggage, then there is problem). There is also no electric kettle in the rooms to prepare tea/ coffee. If those bother you, I would definitely recommend this as choice to be considered for stay.
Within walking distance to the central train station, Santa Maria Novella and the city center, the Hotel Unicorno was the perfect choice for a long weekend stay. The room was clean, the staff friendly and the vicinity to all major sites made it more than worthwhile. Don't expect too much from the breakfast and avoid the coffee (but really, no one comes to Italy for machine coffee- there is a wonderful Caffetteria Ottaviani right across the street for a good cup on the go) and be sure to ask for a room away from the street which I can imagine would be a bit more loud. Worth every penny!
Stayed here a couple of days. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and they help you out with information to explore the city. Rooms are ok, breakfast below average, location really great, just 2 mins from Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
Had 3 nights in Florence to see all the places from Dan Brown's Inferno. The inferno tour in the Palazzo Vecchio was very good, get tickets online in advance. Boboli Gardens were nice but when we got there the Grotto was closed - boo hoo! Discovered, quite by accident, about an hour later that the Grotto was open - but only for 10 mins!! It would have been helpful if a notice of opening times was attached to the gate! So got to see everything even if it was by default. Baptistry lovely but Duomo very plain inside apart from Dome ceiling. Unicorno hotel close to everything with pleasant, helpful staff and a decent breakfast. Had a great time.
This hotel is in a very good location in terms of a short walking distance to the bus station and train station in one direction and the central pedestrian area in the other direction. However, the street in front of the hotel has quite a lot of traffic making the rooms facing the front street quite noisy. We were unfortunately given a room facing the front street, but realized that we should have asked for a room facing the inner yard instead to get a more quiet room. The hotel had a principle that you had to hand over your room key to the front desk staff when leaving the hotel, which I find quite strange as it may jeopardize security. When returning and asking for your room key, there was often another person at the front desk than when walking out and they did not ask for our name, so theoretically anybody could have asked for any room key. All the staff we met were very nice. They day before leaving we asked the woman at the front desk if it would be possible to have breakfast half an hour earlier than their normal opening hour the next morning because of an early flight (they normally served breakfast from 7.30). Our request was accepted with a smile and she said that she would tell the kitchen staff. The next morning the kitchen staff had already brought out most of the breakfast items to the buffet area when we arrived there at 7.00, and we appreciated their service-mindedness very much. Breakfast consisted of fruit, cereals, milk, yoghurt (one morning there were no natural but only fruit flavoured yoghurt, so we asked the staff who readily brought some natural yoghurt from the kitchen for us), bread and bread rolls, cold cut meat, different types of cheese, jam, some hot items like eggs and sausage, cakes, tea, coffee and juice (unfortunately no fresh juice and not very tasty). The staff refilled empty plates quite quickly. The room felt quite basic with bare walls and not much furniture, but quite a lot of floor space. There would have been room for a small table and a couple of chairs (there was a seating area with a sofa and table on the middle floor outside the breakfast room). The bathroom had a bathtub with a shower curtain instead of a proper shower cabin, and had sufficient space and lights. The room was clean, but the beds were quite hard and not very comfortable. Wifi worked well.
I have traveled to Florence in order to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. When we have arrived to the reception, around 11.00 AM, Elena helped us getting a room, even if the check-in time its 14.00. I have liked Elena a lot, since she was extremely kind and helped me some preparation for the proposal of my girlfriend. Elena and Fidelle are marvelous! The hotel its a 4-500 years old building, very intimate and very clean! I have enjoyed a room on the top floor with the view on the Via dei Fossi. The bed and furniture in my room were new and very good quality. If you chose this hotel, you can forget about bus during your visit to Florence. Its very well located, and you can easily go by foot to visit the city. If you have time, you can go also to Siena by bus, very easy, from the station nearby. The breakfast served in the hotel can meet lots of demands. The internet in the room its good and fast. Quite strange for Italy. :) Should I recommend this hotel for leisure and couples? Of course!!! I would like to thank once more to Elena for the lovely stay! We will come back, as promised! Looking forward! Go to Unicorno and sleep in the house of Pazzi! :)
Stayed here with my wife this month lovely hotel with excellent friendly staff in a great location for sights .The hotel is situated on Via dei Fosse which is a bus route but which only appears to operate as such during the day.We had aroom on the first floor overlooking the street which was fully insulated from traffic noise with shutters and two sets of double glazed windows The bathroom was clean a and the shower very efficient with adequate toiletries and towels which were changed regularly.A large comfortable bed and plenty of drawer and hanging space .The staff are a delight and very helpful and recommended restaurants etc all of which were good. The hotel is a short walk from the main station which is on the opposite side of Piazza Santa Maria Novella behind the church and only a short stroll down the street to the river and handy for all the major sights which are in easy walking distance .Breakfasts were excellent with a good selection of hot and cold food although the coffee machine did breakdown on our third day.Any complaints just that the decor is beginning to get a little tired and perhaps some refurbishment is required in the not to distant future .Would I stay there again ?Most certainly lovely hotel great service lovely staff and great location
For our first visit to Florence, our first contact was Edwin on reception of this lovely hotel. A very pleasant welcome and friendly at all times of dealing during our 4 night stay. Booked to give us easy access to the city and at a reasonable price, we opted for Hotel Unicorno. Comfortable room with a good bed and bathroom. Our view was just over a side street but let's face it, we spent all day in this beautiful city and saw plenty of fantastic views. A hearty buffet breakfast was adequate to begin a busy day exploring and playing the tourist in Florence. Great hotel and easily recommended.
