Such a great spot for our family! The home was clean and met all of our needs. The views were great and the resort amenities were a huge plus. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for some family time in nature!

We had a very nice time with family at the cabin. Lots of wildlife around so we enjoyed that during our stay. Susan was very responsive to our questions and very friendly. The cabin had lots of room for our group of five and was well equipped.

Wonderful

We had a great stay at Gnome Away from Home. The cabin is beautiful and has all the amenities you need. The only disappointment was that the hiking trails in Powder Horn were closed during our stay and this was not communicated with us. But that house is perfect for a mountain getaway. We will definitely be back.

Perfect cabin for family

My family and I stayed over New Years and loved the cabin. Everything in the cabin was perfect and the welcome gift was so nice! The kids loved the downstairs game room. We saw deer multiple times in the neighborhood and the playground area by the lake was very scenic to walk around and play by. The lil gem mining with Jesse was also a highlight. She was so sweet and the kids had a blast! Great place to feel secluded but also close drive to Boone.

Gnome away from home

We had a great time staying at the gnome away from home! The house was exactly as described in the property listing. We stayed for an extended weekend (4 nights). We visited Boone, Blowing Rock, we walked on multiple trails and even visited Elk Knob and New River State Parks. Our favorite outing was to Cone Manor and the trail around bass lake. Our time around the cabin was wonderful. It was a little cool out but we used the outdoor heater and enjoyed coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings on the deck! The neighborhood was very quiet and had additional trails. Definitely a trip to remember and something I would gladly do again!

Perfect get away!

We walked into a welcoming basket filled with wonderful treats and a bottle of wine, which was a great surprise. I appreciated how spotless the house was upon arrival. We went with no intentions on doing any exploring but just to kick back, relax and enjoy the wood burning stove/fireplace. Kitchen was well stocked (better than most we have stayed in) which we really appreciated because we love to cook and didn't plan on leaving. It was cozy, inviting and just perfect. We saw a family of deer on the property everyday while we were there. Susan was wonderful. Quick to respond to any questions I had, even dropped off some fire starters after we arrived to help get our fire going. We were very satisfied with our stay.

This very small dark place had 1 bedroom not 3.

The home is extremely dark with dim lighting. The advertisement for the home was falsely represented. There is one bedroom, a loft and a day bed. Not 3 bedrooms. There isn't a gym in the home. The gym is located away from the property. Grossly overpriced for the size and false bedroom advertising.

Beautiful, Well-Equipped Cabin with some temp control challenges

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great 2-night stay at Gnome Away from Home during our kids' spring break. The cabin is lovely, clean, well-stocked and equipped. There were games to play, TVs to watch, deck and woods to explore. The only semi-negative comment I might mention is that with the fluctuating temperature of springtime and only one thermostat for the whole cabin, it was very difficult to get the basement floor warm enough for our kids to sleep down there without making the two upstairs floors swelteringly hot. For future guests, or if we ever stayed there again, I would recommend taking a space heater for the room in the basement if that is allowed. Also the wording of the contract made it difficult for me to find the door code when we got there. It was in there, but it was sort of hidden in the way it was written, so I stood on the front porch for 15 minutes searching for it before we finally figured it out.

Mini Vacation

Mountain getaway!

The house was just as described! It was very clean and cozy. My teenager and his friend enjoyed fishing, although they didn’t catch much but that’s fishing for ya! Lol.

Great place to spend a few days with kids

There was plenty to do and see. Be sure to bring your hiking shoes and fishing gear. The home was perfect with foosball and other games like ping pong and pool. We enjoyed the swimming pool, lake and scenery.

Long Weekend Stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family of 4 enjoyed a last-minute long weekend stay at this beautiful home. Although there are other homes close by, it was quiet and the deck area faced the woods. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, seeing deer, listening to the birds, and the cicadas and crickets at night. The home was well-stocked with the basics for cooking meals and had lots of pretty decorative touches. Our teen boys enjoyed the game room (although we weren't able to find the cue sticks and balls for the pool table). We didn't take advantage of the community pool or club house, but both looked nice. When we went out to explore the Powder Horn Mountain community on Sunday, we weren't able to locate the campground/creek area--not sure if it was our poor map-reading skills or the road sign marked "private" that threw us off. The gate station is not staffed on Sundays or we would have asked for directions. Instead, we spent the day exploring Boone and Blowing Rock. The home was a little further out from Boone than we expected taking into account the winding mountain roads, but it wasn't too bad. Would definitely advise bringing groceries/supplies or stopping on the way if you can. Overall, a lovely stay with very easy check-in/check out process.
