Palmer House a Hilton Hotel

4.0 out of 5.0

The Palmer House is a Chicago classic with a lobby full of elegance and early 20th century charm. The location is ideal for a weekend of walking to attractions, or hopping on a train to take you anywhere in the city. For our family of four, the Palmer House lets us "feel" the culture and strength of Chicago.

Hello, I LOVE the Palmer House. Previously, I have always stayed there whenever I was in Chicago and could manage it. HOWEVER, there has been a small, but decisive, change since my week there this time last year: There is no longer a self-serve coffee/tea set-up in the room. 'Sounds small, but this is such a big deal, I probably won't stay again. (I will just meet friends and colleagues in the gorgeous lobby for drinks). When I come to Chicago, it is to work (research, lecturing). That means, when I have to stay up late, easy coffee I can make whenever I need to, in my PJs, or a "wake-up" cup of tea in the morning, when I wake up early with an idea or I want to concentrate on what I am about to teach, without having to deal with other people, is ESSENTIAL to what makes a good hotel. Going downstairs, searching for a menu, deciding whether one cup of tea is worth an expensive pot via Room Service, is exactly what ruins the experience of being cozy, but "on" my topic. Being in the Loop at the Palmer House is a special joy, and is centrally convenient. But if I can focus better by staying nearer where I will be, Hyde Park or Evanston usually, so be it. This makes me so sad. I can't tell you. I just introduced my god-daughter, a Chicago actor, to the unique pleasures of the PH. But then, 3 hours later, I was wishing I could stay anywhere else that had a coffee machine, so I could keep writing in solitude. Ouch! Please reconsider! MOST Sincerely, Annie Storr

Be sure to check room expenses ... I was charged for tv movies I never authorized. Basically a good stay ... no coffee maker. But I asked for one and got it ... just not as accommodating as I,be experienced in the past ...

We loved this hotel! Perfect location close to lots of shopping and fantastic restaurants. The room was spacious and clean, and super quiet. Staff was awesome. The only negative was that house keeping ignored the do not disturb sign entered our room while we were sleeping and woke us up pretty early. But other than that we enjoyed our stay and will be back in the future!

Room was extremely small, bathroom was even smaller. On top of that got sandbagged with $71 parking for 1 night.

Very nice hotel. Close to the trains and millennium park.

Room was compact with little room to move around. Cleaning staff left glasses dirty. But you can't beat the location. Close to museums, Lake Michigan and Soldier Field.

Room and bed were tiny. People in hallways until 4am yelling, talking. Cable went out. WiFi was useless. Service in lobby was very slow and borderline rude.

The hotel had a lot of history. It was a little noisy, but it was expected as Chicago marathon was the main event for city. Starbucks on first floor was helpful and they opened up early (5am) which was great for runners. Super fast on service that day. Didn’t have water in lobby but provided free water bottles upon asking. Toilet was only issue as would be “running” its own marathon. I informed hotel after check out. Overall, great hotel if you are running the Chicago marathon.

The room was dated, small, and service was ok. I would not stay here again by choice. It was a great location for walking to Millenium Park.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Palmer House. It was my graduation weekend, and we were very well accommodated. Check in and out went smoothly, breakfast was great and the room was spacious and comfortable. It completely added to my graduation experience. I highly recommend this hotel!

I had stayed there 20 years ago. It has been nicely updated keeping its old historic charm. Great price and great location.

Beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely stay again. Only thing missing was in room coffee.

I don't often stay in Hiltons but I was drawn to this hotel for it's location and history. The location did not disappoint; it was extremely convenient. When I walked in I was also very impressed with the beauty of the lobby and bar area. However, the gentleman who checked me in was less than friendly. I realise it was late at night but that's really not an excuse. (I'm a city person and don't usually notice unless it's pretty bad.) The room itself was huge and the bed was very comfortable. However, the cleaning staff left a lot of dust and the desk chair looked like it should have been tossed in the bin years ago. This lack of attention to detail is not what I'd expect from a Hilton. The service at the bar was also not great which is a shame as I would have liked to have spent more time there.

This hotel was very busy and very loud. The elevators would run up and down into the night; every flight could be heard. The rooms were humid.

Palmer House has a gorgeous lobby, and is in a great location in downtown. Definitely a hotel I would recommend to friends.

It was an awesome stay and will definitely come Back and recommend this hotel. It was so convenient since the location is perfect for shopping, sightseeing and near to the must see towers in Chicago. Staff were friendly and customer service were fantastic.

Hotel is a bit tired, rooms need updating, especially the bathroom. Location is good, walking distance to many attractions.

Wifi should be included, there should be a coffee maker in the room and the TV should have some music channels.

Checking in was a long wait in a long line at 3..arrive earlier if possible? Elevator lines were long and slow. We took the stairs. 19 floors. Bed was comfy! Check out was easy and quick from room.
