Several elevators were inoperable during the stay, and the cleaning staff was on strike.

Not only is the pool and Jacuzzi closed down due to construction, but the staff was picketing outside building 24/7 on strike, so we never got our room cleaned! This was my gift to my boyfriend for his birthday, and his very first time in Chicago. Very embarrassed that I chose the Palmer House!

The hotel was marvelous...registration was a tad bit slow due to occurring labor problems, however, overall the hotel was great. Hotel staff was very professional and professional in their respective assignments.

I think the only reason i rate the room comfort and cleanliness as neutral is because the staff was on strike. So the bed had 3 top sheets on it instead of the correct sheets. The blow dryer in our room didn't work, hubs had to go steal one from another room. And the room was very small for what i would have expected when paying close to $200+/night.

Hotel staff were on strike. The experience was less than pleasant as a result.

Front desk was poorly staffed for a weekday afternoon, so sign-in time took longer than expected. Slow midday service in the bar/lunch area. Badly sticking door on one of two closets in the bedroom. No grab bars in the bathroom. On the plus side, noise was not an issue in the room/hallway area of the hotel, and the hotel is in a very convenient location for Loop sightseeing and theater-going. Will consider going back to a different hotel I've used in Chicago for next visit.

I was excited about this hotel being central to the heart of Chicago but the staff & room cleanliness totally threw me off. My friend & I booked a queen bed but ended up with a full. We even approached the front desk about it and the receiptionist mentioned “full” but fixed his wording to “European queen” after I said “Excuse me?”. The bellboy gave me a stank face when I received my bags from him. Plus, I found a coach roach in my room and it was at least an inch & half long! Needless to say, I’m not coming back here.

Pool was being renovated, but this was not disclosed on Orbitz. This should be updated. I'm not sure why they would renovate their pool in the middle of summer...

Clean, friendly staff. Walking distance from the park.

Wonderful classic hotel in the heart of Chicago. Often has great rates and you can bring your dog for a small deposit of 50 dollars which is returned at the end of your stay. Would defiantly recommend this gem of a hotel with its' old world style.

the hotel itself has a great deal of character as a historic hotel. the bar is elegant and distinctive. but that is about all. the staff was surly, perhaps because there were a number of complaining guests. check in was slow. not enough staff and there were a lot of guests complaining about problems with their bookings. incredibly there is no room service for breakfast which I did not find out about until the am, and the restaurant "take out" was slow and unpleasant. I finally found a Starbucks downstairs. The rooms are big but tired looking. there are too many nice hotels in downtown Chicago, and this will not be on the list.

This was a very disappointing experience. First off, the listing stated that there was a swimming pool. Upon arrival, it was made known to us that the swimming pool was closed for the rest of the year. A little bit of a disappointment but not a huge problem. The hotel also had no free WiFi and after paying over 300 dollars for a single night I was beginning to feel a little discontent with the service I was receiving. This is where the big problem starts. After sleeping in room 10-275 I accidentally locked myself out. Knowing I had a very busy day ahead of me I decided that I would ask for it to be opened when I came back that night. When I arrived back at the hotel that night I went to the front desk to ask for an extra room key. Instead of receiving the key to room 10-275, I was given the key to 10-268. After 10 minutes of arguing with the stubborn front desk I decided to open room 10-268 to see what was going on. Upon entering room 10-268 I find all of my personal belongings and bags. Someone had gone into MY room without MY permission and had the audacity to move MY belongings without consent. I don’t know what kind of hotel this is but this is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. When I enter any establishment I expect for my belongings and myself to be respected and my privacy to not be invaded. This is a gross invasion of privacy and I expect an apology and a refund for the night I spent in that hotel.

Good value, good location, rooms clean and updated.

Loved it as always. Rooms are spotless, and large. We veryuch enjoy the lively lobby bar and restaurant with the best cucumber drink in the city. An oasis on a hot summer day!

Pick another hotel - We booked this room 16-162 last minute. Expected the small room with double bed - that's what I booked. No view -ok. I can take that. Wanted quiet and expected that, but had lots of noise near the elevator. Telephone didn't work, only picked up to call desk. Maybe this room should be a closet or maintenance area. It was clean, comfortable bed, bath small but very neat. All was clean. (Actually clean room was the best part!) . I could not believe this very large hotel thought it was ok to sell a room with rusty pipes! I turned on the bath water in the morning and it was rusty, yes rusty! The light orange water ran for a minute or two. Then, I saw the dirty (minerals from old iron pipes) this lasted - for a couple more minutes. Hate to say it, but I had brushed my teeth the night before. Hubby convinced me I would survive the shower! Told them at checkout, no one adjusted our bill or really seemed to care much! Maybe this is common! It guess you could say this left a "bad taste" in more than one way!

I always like staying at the Palmer House. Great location. Easy access to everything Chicago has to offer. The only drawback I have is when I am on the Wabash street side of the hotel I look up and have to see the word trump on the side of a building in my view of the downtown skyline. I flip it off every time I see it.

Beautiful hotel, great staff! However, the rooms are very small. We have small children and like to stay in the same bedroom and never seems to be a problem. This time was uncomfortable. Bathroom is also very small. Not much room to move around. They also seemed short staffed. Check-in and check-out always had a long line. Make sure you allow yourself time for that.

Overall, our stay at the Palmer House was good. The hotel is within walking distance to many great places and the interior of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The only downside was that the person in the room next door to ours apparently ordered room service before we checked-in and they put their tray of dirty dishes and leftover food out in the hall in-between their room and mine. So, this was one of the first things that I saw as I checked-in my room on Friday. On Saturday morning, their tray of dirty dishes was still out in the hall but they had pushed it in front of my room door. On Sunday, the tray of dirty dishes was STILL in the hallway outside my room door when I checked-out. Other than this issue, I really liked the hotel but it was just really gross looking at and smelling other people's dirty dishes and leftover food every time that I came and went from my hotel room for 2-days.
