Kimpton Hotel Allegro

We had a pretty good stay at the Kimpton Allegro, particularly given the price that we paid. The hotel has a fun, modern feel and the staff is very nice. We particularly enjoyed the social hour with free prosecco, the nice lobby area with plenty of lounge space, and the free coffee bar available in the morning. The rooms were also nicely decorated and in good condition. Our biggest issue with the Kimpton was noise, and I'm not sure that there is anything the hotel can really do about the problem. The walls are extremely thin--you can hear conversations, televisions and music. You can also hear the hotel staff when they start cleaning in the morning, it was difficult to sleep past 8am (not very fun on a Sunday morning). The rooms are also quite small. This was not a big for us because we didn't plan to spend a lot of time in our room, but if you want space to spread out and relax this might not be the place. Overall, this is a good place if you can get a deal (we only paid about $100/night). However, I would not pay much more given the noise and space issues.

We love the Allegro - so close to theaters, Macy's, Chriskindlemart, Grant Park and so much else. Love the décor, the bar and the happy hour. Great staff.

Great got upgraded to suite had wine in afternoon

There was a technical cliché when we checked in. However, the front desk upgraded us to a suite to compensate for the inconvenience. We were very pleased.

The property is a bit older, but kept up very well. The rooms are small (quaint), but comfortable. The staff is efficient, but not really the personality and service of let's say a Lowes or Fairmont, but they get the transaction done. I will say that they took quick action when I called down to tell them that the carpet was wet in my room. I stepped in a huge wet spot in front of the door and beside the bed. I was in socks, so imagine. It had the smell of animal pee - the downside of an animal friendly hotel. However, they quickly put me into another room. There is zero room service in the hotel, so after a long day of traveling I wanted to relax and just not do anything. In order to get food you either have to go downstairs and get the food yourself (restaurant), or you will have to call for delivery. I opted for delivery, and still ended up having to go downstairs and get my food. That was a useless idea.

I would pay maybe $50/night for this hotel. Thin walls, outdated, old carpet, spiders, small rooms. Will never stay here again.

This hotel has a great location. It is a clean, quiet hotel.

Pro: close to everything / interesting vibe and nice bar Con: dark, weird non-functional bathroom doors in room, area gets sketchy at night

Hotel is gorgeous! The room was comfortable & the bed was amazing. The morning coffee & fruit in the lobby was a treat. Hotel staff were friendly & very accommodating. Can't beat the location. A great experience & I would stay there again.

Front desk staff was VERY helpful. Answered all of my many questions with a smile - they had a great sense of humor, which was much appreciated. The hotel was beautiful and convenient. I would stay again.

I had a terrible time at the hotel. From initial check in down to the hallway smelling terrible on the 7th floor where my room was. The toilet wasn't working as well. I called downstairs from my room to have them fix it and three hours later no one came. I had to end up leaving a note on the toilet for housekeeping so that it would get fixed.

Great experience. The morning coffee is fantastic! Do wish they had room service though.

We had a fabulous weekend, the mixologists at the bar were great. Wonderful atmosphere.

Found it even more enjoyable since they completed the remodel of the lobby. love the extra of their social hour before we had out on the town.

It was cute, quirky and in just the right location for my stay in the city. Hotel room was on the smaller side, but there wasn't a need for anything bigger. Can't wait to come back!

Hotel was clean and very nice. Staff was helpful and friendly. Couldn't have asked for more.

We loved everything about the Allegro. We needed some help getting around the city using the L and the front desk was not very knowledgeable as they directed us to an entrance to the Blue Line that was for people who had rider cards only. We asked another time about bus service to Wicker Park and we were directed to take a shuttle , Brown Line as the trains were being serviced and not running. Totally wrong but we had a ball, kind of an unexpected tour of places we would have never seen otherwise. We needed a few items not in our room and they were brought quickly and without additional charge.Beds were extremely comfortable and rooms were clean.Great central location and would come again. Thank you

Hotel was beautiful. Room was clean and comfortable. Room was small but it was downtown Chicago. Enjoyed drinks at the bar.

This was the second time I stayed here. The first time everything was fine. This time in room 1509, the neighbors on each side were very loud. The first night on one side I called the front desk and they eventually quieted down. The third night was horrible! We called the front desk 3 times around 11 AM and the people never quieted down. We had to play music to fall asleep. Then at 3:30 AM they were noisy again. When we called again, the new front desk person was not aware of the issue. She offered to move us, but at that point with an early departure, it wasn’t worth it. They claimed they sent security, but no results. They said they would refund my room, but in the morning, when I mentioned our problem to the front desk person, she made no mention of it and I had to run to catch a plane. If you are a heavy sleeper, it is a very nice hotel. Small city-size rooms are nicely decorated. Beds are comfortable. They have a nice lobby bar with alcoves where groups can meet. Lucy, the bartender, is very nice and provided excellent service to our group the first time we stayed there. She was very friendly this time as well. From 5-6pm, they offer a free wine happy hour, so the ambiance is nice and lively. No room service, but the lobby bar offers snacks you can bring up to the room. We wanted to schedule our annual company meeting there but although they had well-appointed conference rooms, the catering restrictions were insurmountable. We had a group of 10 people, and they had the perfect room, but wouldn’t offer a good value for the forced catering spend. We ended up getting a room at Riva on the Navy Pier, and had a continental breakfast and three course lunch and excellent service vs. a very skimpy offering at Allegro for the same spend. It would have been so much easier to keep it all in the same place, but just not worth it. If you have money to burn on a large expense account, it would probably be a nice place for a conference, as long as your guests are heavy sleepers. If you are traveling and are a heavy sleeper, it is a nice hotel. The thin walls were really puzzling and disappointing.
